The Gasthaus Motel is a fine place to stay, especially for short-term stays. The rooms do not have do not disturb signs, so they are cleaned daily (taking out the trash, making the bed, and fresh towels). However, I stayed for 8 weeks, and my sheets appeared to never be changed until week 6 (there were the same small stains in the same places the first 6 weeks). It appears the only time my room was vacuumed and the counter and table were wiped down was 7 weeks into my stay, two days before my checkout. I believe housekeeping gets one day off each weekend so this may have been to prepare for my Saturday departure so that they did not have to clean my room between guests. The owners are friendly, however extremely hard to contact most of the time. I had made my reservation over a month in advance and called one week prior to guarantee it since they had not taken any information from me when I first made the reservation. The office was closed when I arrived on a Sunday afternoon at 3 pm. I called and left a message to call me when the office was open. After 3 hours of waiting, the office finally opened, but I was running errands and never received a call back that they had re-opened their office. It is a family-owned motel so they are often closed for the majority of Sundays and random hours throughout the week, so if you ever run into any issues it can be difficult to contact them. Their office phone is also not forwarded to any of their phones, so if you call when the office is closed you will get no answer. Also, they will put up a closed sign when the office is closed, but will give no indication of when it might reopen. The male owner also has a job away from home, so I was often told I would have to wait until he was home to fix any issues as the female owner was not able to solve my problems. Sometimes if the two owners are busy they send an elderly family member to the office. I am not sure why they do this because she is not allowed to accept money or tell anybody any information about rooms or reservations, so it is just like the office is closed. The wifi is extremely spotty and unreliable. I would not recommend staying here if you are passing through and may need to get on a zoom call because it will cut out constantly. All of the TVs are Roku TVs which was nice until mine stopped connecting to wifi two weeks into my stay, and never worked again for the next 6 weeks. I complained many times and was always told I was the only one complaining so they could not do anything about it. I was told they were looking into better wifi by week 3 of my stay, but by the end of my 8-week stay, there was no improvement. Maybe eventually this will not be an issue if the wifi is improved, but as of 2022, their wifi...
Read moreSpent a long weekend in Monroe, Wisc while displaying at the annual Monroe Model Railroad Show. Motels were pretty well booked up for our weekend due to numerous weddings taking place. I must admit that the Gasthause was not our first motel choice, but we'd change our opinion if we go back.||||Comfortable room that was recently redecorated. Clean room upon check-in. TV worked well. Nowhere to hang clothes on hangers, but the owner surprised us on day two by putting up a clothes bar. We were grateful, and appreciated his attention.||||Beds were quite comfortable. Shower excellent after us old fogies were shown how the tub/shoer diverter valve worked. (slick!)||||No breakfast, but we discovered Amy's Corner Cafe downtown, and that was marvelous.||||Good amenities with mini-fridge and microwave. Don't like those min coffee brewers, and we did not use it. As mentioned earlier, we'd definitely return to this motel in future years.||||Was able to log on easily to the wifi and the system worked well.||||I don't know what phone carrier they use in Monroe, but our cell phones didn't work particularly well, and forget about calling out for food or dinner reservations from the motel as you simply can't. The room phone only connects you...
Read moreThis place was around when I was a kid decades ago. It is a small motel and the young owners have done a great job of keeping it up. The rooms are basic but comfortable. Beds are very comfortable. TV channels are better than most upscale hotels . The first motel I have used in a long time where keys are still used . The tub has a great non skid surface so one doesn't slip . The price is lower than those nearby but because it's near the edge of town you aren't walking to any other services. They aren't overly dog friendly but do have a room or two one can have a dog. They have no place to hang clothes although there is a place they could put one . The coffee pot is useless as the cord is too short to reach anywhere unless you move it. The bath water isn't very hot although I was fine with it ( my wife not so much) The owners are nice people. This place doesn't have a front desk but an old time office so dont count on them being there necessarily if you need something. It is quiet .Parking can be tight when the ATV crowd parks their trailers behind you. I would use this...
