We loved this place! One of our favorite rooms ever! 4 dbl beds (dream come true for big families). Both main room & the 2nd room have newer a/c units & their own flat-screen TVs. Room's in the corner of the L (where the 2 legs of the motel join), so entrance is private. This place has been cared for, updated, maintained, & loved. Walls are old wood paneling & painted cinder blocks. Beds are truly comfortable. A/C worked well. 2 sinks (dressing area & bathroom) & mirrors for both. Everything looked clean. The period furnishings are a definite plus. There's a handout they give you when you check in w/lots of helpful information. The lady checking us in directed me to a few potential restaurants as well as grocery store in town for dinner. We ate on the nice patio @Sunset. Once we finished dinner, we had a bit of an issue getting the main room's TV to turn on (despite following the instructions on the paper), so I had to ask the lady to come help us. I'm really not sure what the issue was, but when she got into the room the first thing she did was cuss. It wasn't "at" us, but I found it a off-putting especially since she did it in front of my kids & it really seemed to come out of nowhere. Bathroom was great but showerhead was extremely low. We had to stoop. Dressing area sink drained very slowly, but I unscrewed the sink stopper top & set it to the side of the sink & then it drained fine. Since no vent in the bathroom & I hate a humid bathroom, I opened the little window after our showers. While there was a screen, that didn't stop little bugs from coming in, so I closed it. But then I noticed it didn't lock. There was a spinning piece on one side of the window, but nothing on the other piece of the window for it to connect with. I mentioned this to the lady in the office the next day & she was very concerned & said they'd definitely fix it. The office is tiny, so I wasn’t sure how breakfast would be, but everyone had something to choose from. They had boiled eggs, muffins, yogurt, cranberry juice, cereal, milk, & a few other things. Very efficiently arranged, & you take what you want & eat on the patio/one of the benches outside/back in your room. The lady from the previous night was also working in the AM. While she was nice, you could tell she was overly nervous abt kids handling things. Perhaps the juice could be served in something besides the heavy glass decanter? lol Nobody broke anything & nobody was rambunctious. But parents can tell when it's assumed that their kids are going to break something or mess up something, & it makes everyone uncomfortable & feel like you aren't welcome to partake of what you rightly should be able to enjoy. Just a note: no phone in the room. The lady said they chose to put in wifi instead of phones? Not sure why you'd have to eliminate existing phones even for communication w/front desk just to provide wifi, but not a big deal-just an odd statement. Finally, just a few issues that in no way affected how much we enjoyed our stay nor my eval of this place, but that I am mentioning in the interest of a thorough review: The rubber duckies are adorable & a unique touch! But they’re breeding grounds for mildew. The blue spots you notice on them are actually mildew inside. Water gets in from the holes underneath & can't get out. We found a big ball of hair, like what you get when you pull all the hair out of a brush, behind one of the garbage cans. It was no doubt easy enough to miss during housekeeping because it was dark & so is the carpet, but kind of yuck. Found several hairs leftover in the bathroom (floor & shower wall) from previous guests. I know hairs are hard to get completely, but again, still kind of yuck. Lastly, there was a nest of some sort over the outer door. I couldn't tell if it was an insect nest or bird nest, so we decided to think it was birds. At any rate, we didn't bother it & nothing bothered us! None of the above should be taken as a deterrent to staying here. It's truly a wonderful place to stay & I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone!

Step Back in Time at the Sunset Motel – Classic Charm with Modern Touches The Sunset Motel on Route 66 is a true step back in time—in the best way possible. From the paneling and vintage furniture to the mid-century artwork, the entire place feels like a well-preserved piece of Americana. It’s clear the owners take great pride in maintaining the property and providing guests with a welcoming, nostalgic experience. Though it's just 650 feet from the interstate, we didn’t hear any road noise at night—a pleasant surprise. While we weren’t traveling with pets, the motel is clearly pet-friendly, with a nicely kept grassy area for pet relief. The pet fee is also very reasonable at just $15. Our main challenge was the lack of accessible power outlets in the room. As someone who uses a CPAP and travels with other electronic devices, this made things a bit tricky. The continental breakfast came in a charming little bag and included a bran muffin and two oranges. There’s a coffee maker in the room, which was appreciated, but don’t expect a full breakfast spread. The beds were very firm—in our opinion, too firm for a comfortable night’s sleep. That might work for some, but it’s something to be aware of if you prefer softer bedding. EV travelers should know that the Tesla charger onsite is owned and operated by Tesla, not the motel. The staff doesn’t have much information about it. There are two units, both with J1772 adapters, and they appear identical to Tesla destination chargers. I charged at 11 amps to avoid idle fees and was pleased to see no charges after about 10 minutes post-charge. The cost was $0.36/kWh—about half the price of the Francis Energy Superchargers in the area. All in all, the Sunset Motel offers a unique and memorable stay for travelers who appreciate a retro vibe, friendly service, and a touch of Route 66 history.

Cons: Street noise notable even after 1015pm. Loose door knob/handle making sense of safety & security less than optimal. Perhaps over tome new doors & hardware could be added? Old fashioned hanging lamp with torn lampshade over table. (Not awful, but as hard as it appears, the owners work to keep this place better than most non-chain motels. It was a miss. Black flecks in bathroom sink, not sure where it originated, but I could write in it, the particles disintegrated into a blackish liquid. The other sink, the toilet and the shower did not have the same issue. The bathroom is smallish with a second counter with a hand sink just outside the bathroom door. The bathroom linens were in need of replacement and/or bleaching. Discoloration in shades of gray, light tan, or very off-white. No actual stains were present. Older appearing carpeting, signs of stains. But did not appear dirty nor demonstrate a bad odor. Pros: Very, very clean. Appearing freshly painted in a cheerful peachy goldish tone with no residual paint chemical odor. The ceiling tiles were immaculate as were the window blinds. The heater was new and very responsive to warming the room and temperature reset for sleeping. Sparingly furnished, tasteful, sturdy, and well made chairs & table. Simple bedding, clean and free from any signs of pests. The bed we chose was supposedly longer than average. Nor notable so, but at 6'3" he said he was comfortable. Adequate parking just outside our door. The desk staff was professional, cheerful, funny, kind, organized, and very helpful.

My name is Michelle Potts and this hotel was HIGHLY recommended by a fellow coworker. On August 5th, 2025 I rented a room here at the Sunset as a walk-in. I was checked in by Debbie at the front desk. Let me start by saying how PLEASANT she was and didnt mind my chatting with her even though it was late! She gave me a key to my room! A real key, not a plastic card that you swipe at most other hotels! It was for my room (which was #5) and I was already excited to inspect my room! I was also given a "breakfast bag" which I was surprised to receive since I rarely stay in hotels. It contained two little cutie oranges, a banana nut muffin, and the most decadent bear claw pastry I have ever had the pleasure of devouring! It had slivered almonds on the top, along with a light drizzle of chocolate. It also had some type of almond paste nestled between the flaky croissant layers that was Heavenly! I would LOVE to meet the woman who creates such an amazing pastry, perhaps even learn how she makes them! On to the room...clean. Quaint. Charming. My air conditioning was ice cold, plenty of puffy pillows and fluffy towels. A cute retro-style alarm clock placed between the two beds. Also two Hershey kisses placed next to a little placard that was adorable and sweet to read! The wood paneling on the walls only added to the charm this room already possessed! The bathroom was well lit, and the tile on both the floor AND walls was clean and well maintained. A rubber mat AND a rubber duck were waiting for me in the bathroom LOL. Two beautiful paintings hung over each bed and honestly, I could go on and on about this hidden treasure of a hotel on Route 66, but I'll let you come have a stay here and see what I mean...thank you for such a beautiful and very well loved hotel. They dont make them like this anymore, and the owners genuinely take great pride in this beautiful property! I also have two small dogs that I travel with, and thia hotel has one of the cleanest and well-manicured grounds I've seen! I will definitely return to this hotel when I need a safe, friendly and clean room...
