We played all 3 courses. Indeed, these courses look and play differently than other typical FL courses. They have a lot of similarities: wide fairways, rolling hills, crowned design greens, elevated greens, fast tiering greens, very undulated greens, etc. The Red is a must-play with much more green surroundings, scenic layouts, and more challenging holes. The Black comes with huge greens with huge undulations. It's more deserted in its surroundings than the Red and Blue. With football-field wide fairways, the approach shots and putting are more challenging than anything else. It's very easy to get a 3-putt given its fast speed and huge undulated greens. My favorites would be Red, Black, and then Blue. All bunkers are considered waste areas. It's easily around $215 to play a round here with cart, caddie, and gratuity. I feel that there are excessive restrictions to play here with a hefty fee. You can't go to the range without a shuttle (for Red and Blue). The rangers will clock you frequently. I play relatively fast but still feel the pressure of being monitored every second. They try to make you feel attentive by breaking into several stations: bag drop, bag loading on cart, shuttle to range, starter, caddie, etc. All these so-called services make you feel that tipping on every station is necessary. Again, when everything adds up, it's kind of expensive to play a round even during the...
Read moreBEWARE!!! Course conditions do not live up to expectations you normally have for a course that charges a premium premium. How this course is ranked as high as #3 in FL perplexes me. Greens so covered in sand it was offensive. I understand the aerated part but there were so many areas on the greens that were in terrible shape that had nothing to do with aeration. Greens were not holding like good greens hold. Lightning fast to the point they were laughable. I like fast greens, but this was just unfair. For $300 green fees + split a caddy for $90 each + tip, one would expect pristine course conditions. The course had some beautiful views and amazing undulations, but I’m not there to look at it and take pictures and be a course critic based on its quirkiness. The designers of the course get 10 stars for creativity, no doubt. But 1 star for the most important part, the course conditions. I literally said on the way to the course how excited i was to finally have some super nice conditions. Better lies better shots better scores, etc. Mostly upset course still charges what it does knowing it has major problems. There is also no reason on earth for this coursr to not at least allow golf carts. It was dry as a bone. Half the price and let me take a cart around and maybe i would guve blue or black a shot, but it is going to take quite a bit of convincing to ever get me back there. So...
Read moreI have made an edit, I hope that they do it as this is the clubhouse for Streamsong RED AND BLUE, not just red.
THE NAME OF THE CLUBHOUSE STILL HAS NOT BEEN UPDATED
Personally, I prefer this place to Bandon. There is more to do within a reasonable drive, heck one can go to Bern's Steak House one night (in Tampa). The grounds crew is first rate and the turf just sings. I have never stayed here, I stay in Brandon, FL or Lakeland as I only play one-a-day and lodging is expensive, I'd rather drive :45 than pay $300-400/night, even if I go with my wife.
As to the courses - These original 36 holes were laid out (Routed) simultaneously by Doak (Blue) and C&C (Red) each taking a few holes form the other. In the men's locker room is a routing that is not the final one, don't miss it.
I prefer the Blue but I generally prefer Doak to C&C although these are very very close as to be meaningless "which is better". A few wild green (putting) surfaces and the lack of predictability (A hazard of having played 30? C&C courses) makes the nod to Blue for me. Doak just does a little bit more to the land generally and creates more distinctively strategic hole designs.
If you are not shy about heat, in the summer the prices are notably less, but any time is good...
