I frequently travel for work and typically book through IHG hotels, mainly Holiday Inn Express, because of their point system and their widespread availability in the towns I visit. For a recent four-day work trip to Napa, I decided to stay at Hotel Indigo, hoping for a slightly more upscale experience compared to my usual Holiday Inn stays—after all, it’s Napa!
Unfortunately, my experience didn’t live up to expectations. When I arrived, the greeting at the front desk was underwhelming. The lobby was empty, and while I don’t expect over-the-top service, I do value a warm welcome—especially as someone who has now reached Gold status with IHG after many stays this year.
I asked about the hotel restaurant since I was too tired to go out for dinner. I was told it closed at 10 p.m., which was perfect as it was only 7 p.m. I dropped off my things in my room and returned to the restaurant, only to find it empty. The same front desk attendant arrived a few minutes later but didn’t immediately acknowledge me. I had to ask if the restaurant was actually open, which felt awkward.
Despite being the only customer, it took about 10 minutes for her to return and take my order. I understand delays if the front desk is busy or the restaurant is full, but neither was the case. The menu was simple—just one page of drinks and one page of food—so I quickly decided on a burger, thinking it would be a safe choice. I requested it medium, but it arrived overcooked and well done. I didn’t complain and ate it anyway. For dessert, I ordered cheesecake, which was unfortunately frozen solid. Again, I didn’t complain, as this was my first night, and I didn’t want to risk creating tension for the rest of my stay.
The room itself was clean, which I appreciated, but the layout was unusual. The light switch was oddly tucked into the closet, making it hard to locate in a dark room. The space felt cramped, with limited room to set up the ironing board near an outlet. While the towels and soap were well-stocked, the trash cans didn’t have liners, which was inconvenient.
To add to the disappointment, the hotel charges $10 per day for parking in a lot that provides no additional security or amenities. For a property that bills itself as boutique, this fee felt unnecessary and out of place, especially considering the lack of enhanced parking features.
Would I stay here again? If it’s for work and I’m focused on earning IHG rewards points, probably. However, if I were visiting Napa for leisure, I’d likely choose a different hotel for a true...
Read moreAVOID HOTEL INDIGO! I booked two rooms for two nights at Hotel Indigo Napa on July 19– 21, 2024 for my nephew’s wedding in Napa. We were to travel from Chicago to Napa arriving Friday, July 19, 2024. Due to the global computer outage caused by Crowdstrike, we were unable to fly on Friday or Saturday so we missed our event. I called the hotel directly in the early hours on Friday the 19th to let them know that we would regretfully have to cancel both rooms for both nights. I was told by Indigo personnel that the rooms would be canceled but that since we booked through a third party (Priceline), I would need to contact them for a refund. I immediately called Priceline, and they asked that I hold while they called Indigo directly to confirm the cancellation and to “get permission” to refund my money. After waiting on hold for quite some time, I was told no one answered the line at the hotel. I was told to wait for two business days in order to give enough time for Priceline to get in touch with the hotel. I called again the following week and got the same story and again a third time - same story. Finally, on my fourth phone call, I was told that an email was being sent to the general manager at Indigo to fulfill my request. I thereafter received an email on August 16, 2024, stating that my request was denied by Hotel Indigo. No reason was given. It was impossible for us to get to Napa and use the rooms. Not only did we miss out on the wedding, Hotel Indigo added insult to injury by keeping our money. There were a number of other wedding attendees that also could not make it to Napa that weekend because of the Crowdstrike issue, but we were the only ones that did not get a refund for rooms we could not possibly use. Then again, we were the only wedding guests that booked at Hotel Indigo. I do not believe it is a good business practice to deny a refund under these extraordinary circumstances. Also really did not appreciate the 4-week...
Read moreOdd doesn't begin to describe this place. Although convenient to the highway and near wineries we visited roomws were just odd. Luggage carts at opposite end of building from reception. Reception area nice enough as well as the breakfast area. After getting off one of the slowest elevators (2 floor service), we walked into the weirdest room ever. The closet door had a semi circle cutout to reach your hand through to turn on the entry way light. Closet had bifold doors, you had to crack them open and hold the hangers back to keep them from hitting the doors...that was without clothes on them. Really tiny sink area that had one outlet to include the in room coffee pot. Shower and toilet area was decent...had to step in and to the side to be able to close the door to use the toilet. Refrigerator was tucked under this oversize 'island' that jutted out into the room and created a 'choke point', so you had to to dance around to get by the island, end of the bed and desk monstrosity. Every audio/video type connection was was right below the tv...it was wierd if you brought xbox and play station with you from the early 90's you could plug them all in...but only one receptacle on the desk lamp to plug them in...but that's where the coffee pot had to be plugged in, sorry kids...mom had the 2 outlets at the sink full with the blow dryer and curling iron...did I mention we were rediculously short of places to plug anything in? The other side of the bed from the clock had a light, which was plugged into an extention cord so that it and the corner lamp could be plugged into one part of the receptacle and the other receptacle was an extension cord under the bed to the 'clock radio, usb charging ports (2)' and light on that side of the bed. Hotel had 'quiet' hours from 10pm to 8am, whoever both the days we were awaken at 0700 by the landscapers and trash collectors outside...so while we had inside quiet...
