We've stayed several times on the Depot Lodge property, in both one of the glamping tents and, more recently, the Master Suite in the lodge itself. Being able to walk to breakfast and/or dinner is a fun luxury, and there's plentiful hiking nearby while downtown Lewisburg, WV is a fun day trip 45 minutes away.||The main lodge offers a room for guests to hang out in - reading, playing games, or just talking - stocked with plenty of great snacks. It's welcoming and comfortable.||GLAMPING TENT:|We adore this option!! The tent is nicer than many hotel rooms, and much more special and unique. The wrap-around porch makes it easy to enjoy the views from any side of the tent, particularly of the creek behind the tent. The bed is comfortable, and the gas-burning fireplace keeps the place warm enough on a chilly night. The outdoor shower is one of the best parts of the experience! The tent is comfortable, cozy, and fun for a getaway either solo or together.||MASTER SUITE:|The size of the master suite is impressive! It's on the bottom floor of the lodge, in the back, and the living room / dining room is enormous. Plenty of seating for a lot of people or for a few people who want options. The gas-burning fireplace was lovely, and we could hear the creek behind us from inside the suite with the windows open and while sitting out on the back deck. The bedroom was spacious and the bed was sooooooo comfortable! The bathroom was huge, too.||The only down side to the master suite is the location of the bedroom: it shares an evidently thin wall with the office space of the lodge itself. This is problematic if you want to sleep in in the morning, as the conversations between housekeeping staff and/or lodge management are easy to hear through the wall. (The good news: they seem to get along well and enjoy each other's company! :) ) The noise woke us up both mornings, and was somewhat but not completely mitigated by a white noise machine in the room. (This particular trip was a respite in the middle of a scary medical diagnosis, so we wanted to relax, sleep, and just get away from everything that reminded us of the medical issue and our mortality.)||That said, EVERYONE who works on the property - lodge and Swinging Bridge Restaurant included - is absolutely lovely!! Extremely friendly, hospitable, and helpful. At a time when we were seeking peace, love, and warmth, we found it in spades with our interactions with them.||We can't...
Read moreI was one of the visitors on the trip with Emma I. so here are some things I would like to add (Pam and Shawn):||||This was not my first time in Paint Bank nor was it my first stay at a Depot Lodge cabin property. I have been coming here with family yearly since 2019/2020 and consider it a respite. I was looking forward to taking my friends here (who were first time visitors) and showing them a place that means a lot to me. I have never encountered pest issues at other cabins and I’ve been in the Fall and late Winter/early Spring before. Things happen, we UNDERSTAND that. ||||Overall, the thing that frustrates us is how it was handled. They knew about the extent of the problem and did not make us aware or give us a chance to cancel/forfeit the trip. I had spoken directly to Pam on the phone a few days prior to the trip as well and nothing was mentioned. Even if we couldn’t have been refunded we would have appreciated the communication and notice. It seemed like poor business practice. We weren’t (and still aren’t) asking for a comped trip or any sort of special treatment. ||||We did not appreciate the comment (from Pam at checkout and in the review and also from another reviewer) that was made that made it seem like we were being invalidated/dramatic. I grew up tent camping so this is not a case of “city dwellers not knowing what they were getting themselves into”. My friends also understood that it comes with being in the woods but the difference lies in stinkbugs falling from the ceiling on to where we’re supposed to be sleeping and finding them around in the kitchen area as well. Thankfully this part did not sour their opinion of Paint Bank and the cabin, and we enjoyed it as much as we could despite the constant stink bug interruptions while inside. ||||I never have a bad thing to say about The Depot Lodge. This will not deter me from considering staying here in the future and have already talked about coming back to other properties with family and the same friends. (Although not the Lemon Hotel like suggested because part of my personal appeal of coming to the Depot Lodge is to be away from other people). Please do not take any of this negatively. We are not saying stay aware from the Depot Lodge at all costs, we just wanted to share what was hopefully a one time...
Read moreIt was a warm spring day in May when my fiancé and I wandered into Paint Bank by accident and fell hopelessly in love with the picturesque beauty that lay before us. The enchanting little hamlet, almost completely surrounded by forest, and nestled on Potts Creek is something almost out of a storybook, with its old country store that hides a five star restaurant in the back. We have stayed in many of the lovely and imaginative venues that The Depot Lodge has to offer, including the charming little cabin called Fox Hill. The cabin itself is darling with its quaint fox décor and large front porch. When we stayed at Fox Hill the Mountain Anemone and the Wild Geranium were in bloom all around the perimeter of the cabin. Since then, we have stayed several more times at different venues and enjoyed them all, but none quite captured our hearts like Fox Hill did. Everything in Paint Bank is tastefully done, and we one day hope to make it back to stay as the elegant Lemon Hotel. I have written a few reviews over the course of my travels. I have even written a review about The Swinging Bridge restaurant and their fabulous cuisine. In all the time we have spent in Paint Bank I have never witnessed a bug infestation at any of the properties. Anyone who’s spent time there knows just how wonderful and magical Paint Bank really is, and I hope its there for others to discover for many...
