Our trip to the Lemon could not have been better. Due to weather and timing with Christmas, we ended up being the only guests that night. We had come to visit the Swinging Bridge restaurant but it turned out that they were going to be closed for Christmas. Upon learning of this, the hotel staff reached out and told us that they would be happy to provide food in the Swinging Bridge's stead. I informed the manager that we had wanted to take my grandparents to the Swinging Bridge due to my grandfather having a favorite item there.
The manager, Tina, told us that since we were the only guests scheduled that we could ask for whatever we wanted and she would be willing to cook it. This meant Swinging Bridge items, Lemon Hotel mainstays, or even something else like lasagna. We agreed on a menu and Tina got to work preparing the whole thing.
When we arrived, Tina brought us Italian sodas to enjoy in the wonderfully decorated parlor and showed us around the house. Each room is named for a different fruit and is carefully decorated to match. The house is carefully restored to maintain its 100-year-old charm but updated to the highest standard of quality.
We enjoyed our dinner and could not have asked for better chicken and bison steak. She even made us a family favorite banana pudding. Throughout the evening, Tina was the most sweet and helpful person doing everything in her power to make our stay as perfect as could be.
We requested an 8AM breakfast and were served a wonderful fruit and blueberry pancake breakfast. I highly recommend the blueberry pancakes if you have the option. They were some of the best pancakes I could have asked for.
We learned that you are given a fruit ornament associated with the room you stay in at each visit and Tina even made us some cookies for the road (although I'm not sure that's standard for every guest). We could not be more thankful for Tina and her hospitality. The service and quality of stay were beyond any that we had ever seen in the USA and perhaps the best we had encountered in the world. The price is that of a standard hotel in some large cities, but instead is truly a five star experience. I highly recommend this place and will be telling everyone I know to stay here if they need to find a place...
Read moreI have always wanted to stay in a bed and breakfast where every little detail is attended to but sadly most come up short. My husband and I spent Mother's Day weekend at the Lemon Hotel and I can finally say I have stayed somewhere that did not disappoint. I am still in awe that such a gem exists in tiny little Paint Bank in rural southern Virginia. This hotel is a must see! It is impeccably decorated, immaculately clean, and not a single detail has been overlooked. They must have scoured the world over for the gorgeous decor. Every piece of artwork, furniture, and antique has clearly been lovingly chosen for each themed room. But it's not just beautiful; there has been a lot of thought that went into this hotel and it's obvious everywhere you look if you take the time to do so. I do. The coffee station, for example, has a lemon cookie jar with lemon cookies, lemon napkins and lemon tea cups, Lemon Hotel labels on the water bottles, and lovely lemon china. How does one find so many lemon things and not one of them is tacky? The themed rooms are exquisite. There is no detail too small and even the robes to each room are embroidered with that room's chosen themed fruit, as is the hairdryer bag and the hand towels. Amazing! We borrowed the lemon colored bikes and biked down the country road to see the bison. It was a lovely evening and afterwards, we walked the pristine grounds admiring the views, gardens and the cleanest chicken coop I've ever seen. Kelly had greeted us and checked us in. She was the best hostess and very attentive to our needs. It's obvious she puts a lot of herself into this bed and breakfast. She keeps the place in amazing order and the cleanliness is unparalleled (and I thought I was a clean freak!). Lynette cooked a delicious breakfast with fresh farm eggs in the morning. Thank you both for an amazing weekend! We WILL be back..and I...
Read moreThis bed & breakfast is a true Virginia gem! The house dates to 1909 but was completely renovated a few years ago with all the modern necessities, including updated en-suite bathrooms and central heating and air conditioning.
Each room is meticulously decorated with a unique theme. We stayed for one night in the Peach Room, and even though it’s one of the smaller rooms, we found it very spacious and comfortable. The four-poster king-size bed provided the perfect amount of support for a great night’s sleep.
Although the front desk receptionist and groundskeepers were very nice and professional, you shouldn’t expect 24/7 or overnight service onsite. There’s a phone number to call if you need anything during your stay. Unfortunately the cook was on vacation during our visit, so we weren’t able to have dinner or breakfast, but it appears they grow several of the ingredients onsite or just down the road for a true farm-to-table experience.
Keep in mind that the location is very rural, so there isn’t a ton to do in the town. The Lemon Hotel would be perfect for anyone looking for a peaceful weekend getaway or an outdoor enthusiast looking to do some...
