They ruined our trip to New Orleans! We were booked for 3 nights there. This was CONFIRMED. To save on eating expenses, we went to a local grocery store & purchased $50 worth of groceries & personal-care items. We stay our first night, we leave for town our first morning, and after a day at the French quarter, we came to our room exhausted- Only to find that all our brand new groceries AND costly personal-care items are all gone. ALL OF IT! We tell the front desk. They confirm we are booked for 3 nights. The cleaning staff claimed that their log had our room marked as "vacated". I don't believe this at all. Even if the log was supposedly marked incorrectly, anyone with common sense would have concluded that whoever was occupying that room, had no intention of leaving that day. The refrigerator was loaded with new fruit & packaged food. The shampoos and soaps were neatly in their places with new/full containers. ALL GONE.
Here's the real situation. When informed of the missing property, the manager/ front-desk-person, Melissa, said she was a new manager there who has just started & was given the task of straightening the place out. To my wife & I, it was obvious that there was a serious lack of communication between the "cleaning-staff" and " management". A communication gap that seemed to have benefited the cleaning staff way too conveniently. At first, I felt sorry for Melissa. It was obvious to me that her first line of business was to stop the cleaning staff from working her over, as well as the customers. But then, something even MORE GHETTO happened. The maintenance person, MELISSA"S HUSBAND, offers to pay us, cash, out-of pocket, HALF of what we spent on all our lost property. that's right, HALF! In disbelief & anger, I explained to him that it's not only about the money. Its also about the lost time of shopping for all this stuff all-over again, and LOSING TIME ON OUR VACATION by missing some tours we booked in order to do this all again. Needless to say, I turned down his ghetto-offer, and went with Melissa's suggestion of a full refund with free remaining nights. At this point, I felt even MORE sorry for Melissa on a different level. But that was short lived. Because, Melissa soon-after, jumped on the ghetto-wagon too. We checked, and we double-checked with Melissa to make sure we could still stay our remaining 2 nights. She confirmed, and RECONFIRMED we could stay, free-of-charge. As far as I was concerned, it was a resolves issue. But some time during our 2nd night there, and our 2nd day in the French Quarter, Melissa and her husband CHANGED THEIR MINDS! Yes, they changed their minds! When we came back to our room the 2nd day, again, exhausted, the same situation as before was upon us. OUR STUFF WAS ALL GONE AGAIN! We go up front, and MELISSA explains to us this: " Since we gave you a full refund, we need you to check out today. We have all your stuff in a refrigerator in the lobby". At that point, we were done with these people. We could not be happier to leave. However, this is the IRRESPONSIBLE situation that FAMILY INNS OF AMERICA left us in: They put us out, it was a Saturday Night, rooms are booked everywhere, and we are 1800 miles from home with our flight still 2 days away.... ON OUR VACATION! ONCE AGAIN, we are scrambling, losing time-trying to find somewhere to sleep for the night. We end up being rescued by Comfort Suites, on Bullard_ but at premium rate of $250 a night. That was much more than Melissa & Company ever refunded us. In summary, DON'T EVER GO TO FAMILY INNS OF AMERICA. between, Melissa, her Maintenance-Person/ husband, and the cleaning staff, you are guaranteed to have a bad experience. The only thing the cleaning staff cleaned out was US! The place was filthy, and the toilet wasn't even bolted down. I found that out THE HARD WAY. And I also want to reach out to the hospitality community of New Orleans. Some people could conclude, "FAMILY INNS OF AMERICA" REPRESENTS YOU!!! Please don't...
Read moreI'm going to give this place 1 star at least because my experience here wasn't pleasant! First of all before my stay here I had not been back home in New Orleans for 4 years since the death of my Grandmother! I live 997 miles away in VA! That means I hadn't seen my family and friends in 4 years as well! The lady manager was nice upon the initial meeting and she even gave me the room cheaper because I was at the wrong hotel and thought my reservation was for there but wasn't! I had guests over WHO I HADN'T SEEN IN 4 YEARS! I paid $250 for 4 nights and that was waisted money because I only stayed there for 1 nights and half a day! The other nights I slept over at my mother's house! My friends and my mother knew I was home but not either of my sisters! I surprised both my baby and little sisters for my little sisters HS graduation! After all the hugs, kisses, and teary eyed moments that day, Thursday night after her graduation I went and picked up a few things to sleep over at my mother's house! I returned Saturday night to fully pack because I had a plane to catch Sunday morning! I noticed my room was rearranged and $50 worth of items were stolen out of my room! I went to the front desk to complain and then the lady who is the manager that helped me out Wednesday night....her attitude turned sour! She insisted that it wasn't her staff and tried to blame it on my family and friends! Then had the damn nerve to say I had 20+ people go in and put of my room when I only had 7 people there and not all at one time! This was in the night and half a day I was there! My mother and her boyfriend was there with me and the manager said she could play the tape back to show them how many people I had over! Then took it back and said she needed permission from the hotel owner to play it back! She insulted my family, friends, and I especially! Because she made it seem like I was some prostitute! And my mother even told her that I am a grown woman and I can have whomever I want over! Mind you....I HAVEN'T BEEN HOME IN 4 YEARS! I had 7 people over! 4 that first night which includes my best friend India, my Uncle, and my little cousin because they picked me up from the airport, looked at the room and dropped me off! The 4th is my only male best friend Dedrick and he did spend the night but left early that Thursday morning because he had to work! India and my baby cousin came back that Thursday a few hours before my mother, her boyfriend, and my baby sister came to pick me up for my little sisters graduation! And she told my baby sis that they were going to pick up an older cousin that she didn't know....hint...mind you I haven't been home in 4 years...everyone who was important to me knew I was there except my two sisters that's what makes it a surprise! That is 7 people...not no damn 20! The manager was very nasty and insulted me more than once...and if my mother wasn't a saved Christian woman....the manager would have gotten herself into more than what her damn job description pays for! She accused my family and friends of stealing my belongings and basically called me a prostitute! My point is it is nice to stay here but keep your valuable items hidden and don't complain because they will turn from nice to demons from hell and insult you or whoever was in your presence and accuse them of...

We had no problem checking in to the New Orleans Ramada and the staff were very friendly and informative. They also offered a surprisingly solid number of breakfast options, the pool was a lovely temperature and it was nice to have a security gate. But once we got to the see the room, naturally the most important part of any Hotel or Motel, things immediately seemed astray.
I went to raise the curtain and saw that the curtain string had broken and nobody had bothered to fix it. I went to plug my phone charger in and the wall socket moved, visibly not completely attached. My time working in Hardware taught me that this was an electrical hazard, so that’s not very nice. But the coup de grace was going to the bathroom to unload my bowed and finding that somehow…. somehow it hadn’t occurred to the hotel staff that a bathroom needs to carry toilet paper in it. My partner went to call the front desk and incredibly, the phone was broken. Not unplugged, broken. I can't imagine what would happen in an emergency if I needed to call the police and couldn't access my own phone, but regardless I was heavily unimpressed. I called them on my mobile and mentioned that the phone was broken and the toilet was missing paper. They quickly came to bring toilet paper and the issue was resolved. But I've stayed at many motels and hotels in my life, and never once have I experienced that. And it couldn't have come at a more convenient time.
And here is an additional list of issues: The paint had been hastily done and you could see an unimpressive mix of completely different tints on the wall The door was covered in white paint stains. I'm not bothered by small paint stains, but this was a huge ugly mess The roof was covered in water damage stains There was a sticker on the window telling me conditions of staying in the motel. It was so worn that I couldn't even tell. My security deposit was at risk because I couldn't read this Some of the floorboards were lifted off the ground. I tripped on them more than once The bathroom walls have holes in them The chair supplied to my room had a broken wheel in it. Just get still chairs if you're gonna hold onto disabled wheel chairs There were ugly dirt stains on the wall under the desk The freezer was so loaded with frost that I could barely fit anything in it The doona covers were visibly stained
I picked this Motel because I thought it had a good balance of value and pricing as well as having a reputable brand name, but this has put me off ever staying at a Ramada or Wyndham hotel ever again. Also, don't let the name "hotel" fool you. This is a motel. The spitting image of the motel you would see in a 1990's erotic thriller where something goes wrong and a character ends up murdered. I felt safe with the security gate at this one, but not completely safe.
Last time I went to New Orleans I stayed at a Downtown AirBNB. I'm gonna do that...
