This is the first review I have ever written for anything. Because the Lookout is the best hotel I have ever been to. I felt like a rich aristocrat there. Inside and outside in the garden (beautiful vegetation). Very quiet and peacefull even though some bars are only a minute walk. And the bars in the area are really good, friendly (very friendly, in a good way - watch out though, its easy to get carried away and drink more then you planed on) and very cheap. (I am recomending bar Redux). It is cheaper to be here and take a cab twice a day to French Quarter then to stay in French Quarter. And there is plenty of amazing streets around Lookout, if you walk towards the French Quarter. A post from six years ago was complaining about dirt and noise. I think the new owners have been there for about three years, I don't think they have anything to do with the old times. I am not sure though, you might want to check, but I have hard time imagining these owners having any mess there. We spent two nights at the Lookout and then had to move to the Frenchman hotel (nobody had 4 night in a row) and what a difference that was. The stuff at Frenchman is very friendly and the pool area is nice, but the rooms are very small, weird and the bathrooms, at least the one in room 106 are horrible. (And it costs way more and when you walk out into the street you have to step over half dead people). Bathrooms at the Look Out are huge and the rooms are big too, and truly beautiful - art , lay out, everything with lots of details. The bathroom there felt like a small living room. I mean, you wanted to go to the bathroom, what can I say. We stayed in the Mardi Grass room. Best time we had was sitting by the pool after long walk, in the shade of the palms, drinking their very good coffee. Or cooling our hangover from Redux in the cool water of the pool. We didn't have a car, so I don't know what the situation would be to try to park on the street in front of the hotel. But you do not want to drive your car around New Orleans...
Read moreI was just floored by this amazing space and it's owners. We rented the whole house for our family and were surprised at the reasonable price. The rooms were all comfortable and interesting as each one had a personality all it's own. It's located a couple of miles from the French Quarter in a unique neighborhood. It was nice to be away from the noise of the Quarter, especially at night. We really enjoyed meandering around the area when we walked to a restaurant for dinner one evening and a bar later that night. We stayed in the Bollywood Suite which was colorful and included everything we needed for our stay. The bathroom was clean and spacious. The outdoor pool area was such a great place to relax after Quarter exploring. The cabana and outdoor kitchen area provided just what we needed for swimming, lounging, and grilling. Kelly was so very kind and hospitable during our stay. She insisted we call if we needed anything and was so polite and helpful when we did. She checked on us a few times to make sure we were enjoying our trip. We were lucky to meet Percy as well, and he is just as friendly as Kelly and Mark. I am now so in love with the entire experience that I am sure I will never stay anywhere else when we visit New Orleans. Thanks so much to Kelly and Mark for providing such a fantastic establishment and for being so kind and personable to our (sometimes...
Read moreWe love The Lookout Inn! We found it on bringfido.com and have stayed there several times with our dogs. The owners are incredibly nice, helpful, and available should you need anything. The rooms are spacious, comfortable (the beds have the softest sheets), and decorative (we've stayed in the Bollywood room). The property has some great spaces to hang out outside (cabana, pool, hot tub, and seating area) and it all looks well maintained but also feels comfortable. Our dogs did well here too and the pet fee ($25) is very affordable compared to most other places. You're not the closest to the french quarter and other downtown neighborhoods here, but the Bywater is a cool neighborhood in it's own right with good restaurants and coffee shops in walking distance. It's also close to a parade route if that's your thing. The Lookout would be a great option for large groups all looking to stay together - there are four suites (some with pull-out couches) and the back yard pool area is a great communal space to hang out in. We will continue to stay at the Lookout whenever we are in...
