KM Resorts - Old American RV Resort — Hotel in Newport

I was in the area needing a campsite and this place came up. I called but it was after office hours so I drove over and the office again was closed and I figured I would pay in the morning! There were no prices posted in person or on the website, and no where it stated it was members only. After I had been there about 2 hours (at 7pm) a woman on a golf cart sped into my camp site so fast she skidded on the gravel yelling if you're not a member you owe me $82 to stay here. No hello, welcome or anything. I said how was I supposed to know it was a members campsite as that was not posted anywhere (I double checked the office and front gate as I left making sure I didn't miss anything) and she yelled at me that people normally call first (which I did but they were closed). I packed up and found another fantastic public campsite close by for $30/night and was very happy there. The beach access at old American is also mediocre compared to over things in the area. Just don't want anyone else to set up camp just to have to leave! Some signage with members only and prices would be nice, both in person/at the gate and on...

Looks like a really nice park. Friendly staff and the added attraction of wild turkey coming by to ask for grain and cracked corn is a real treat.

Having 4 retired shepherding border collies poses challenges when finding places to camp. All the people out there who don't train their dogs and don't pick up after them are ruining it for responsible dog owners. I found the park to be accommodating and understanding.

The facilities were were a bit run down, I believe it to be related to the drought conditins this summer ('15) and believe it would be really beautiful I'd not for the dry conditions.

I'd give them a higher rate but the space for each RV is tight, not much leg room for doing things outside of the RV, the other strike is the boat launch. It is in need of serious repair. If you go in the water there, watch out for the exposed rear below the waterline, it will trash feet, tires and boat hulls, all with equal ease. Called Teresa to make reservations for a month. She asked if we were members, I said no, she said we needed to fill out application, Rent 500.00 a month, and 30.00 for a background check. I said Ok, we will be there on the 2nd. When we arrived, we were greeted rude by Teresa. She told us she had booked someone else into our site, and she said if we were to stay, it would be 75.00 a night! That's 2,250.00 for 30 days! I don' know what scam she's got running, but I'm not going to contribute to it. I had a medical appointment, needed to rest for a month after eye treatment for Wet Macular Degeneration.
