We recently stayed in the Tall Firs room at Roaring River Bed & Breakfast. When booking we were super excited to have a nice peaceful two nights to start our vacation. We booked Roaring River last minute after the heat wave stopped us from visiting the North Cascades NP.
Check in is from 4-7. I didn’t realize this and we checked in late. Peggy called but was kind about the delay. When we arrived we were met with pure beauty. Built on the hill overlooking a beautiful river. Herschel helped us get checked in and at first view our room was good for us.
The Tall Firs room is their “budget” room. It has one queen bed, a mini fridge and small but nice bathroom. We were pleased. We were aware that they did not have A/C so we brought our own portable A/C.
This is where our story went South… we headed to bed around 9 pm after a long day of travel from the East Coast. We immediately noticed noise from the unit above us. Originally we assumed it to just be temporary because of our early turn in. We were wrong. The pacing back and forth continued. And continued and continued. The floor creaking and clicking. It sounded like someone was smacking an electrical cord against the floor…repeatedly. Finally at 1 am I messaged their Facebook hoping that at a minimum something could be done for the next night. 3am… the pacing and clicking of the floor continued. At this point I am very irritated. I message again to tell them it continued at 3 am. Jessica, their social media manager, responded and called the guest above. The clicking and creaking ceased between 3-6:30 am but began again at 6:30.
I expressed, to both Peggy and Herschel, that I have slept in some questionable spots but never have I ever slept that poorly. Herschel says “we’ll at least you’ll remember us!” Seemingly to be funny. Only I was not in the mood for jokes. We were told that there are no other rooms available and that this guest checks out that day. At least , I might get a better second night’s sleep.
We enjoyed the delicious homemade breakfast from the balcony of the tea room. Both breakfasts were wonderful!
The next evening, the same clicking and creaky continued, finally, ceasing around 11 pm but beginning again at 5 am causing another poor night’s sleep.
In the end, I debated on how to rate this B&B. We paid $333 for two nights. Yes, Jessica attempted to solve the issue for us on one night. Beyond that no one from Roaring River offered an apology or bothered to check in with us to see if the second night was better. Ultimately, this establishment is responsible for their guests. People do not come to B&B’s to listen to creaking floors and lack of empathy for their guests stay. After our stay they emailed asking for a review. This is what they get from an unhappy guest that they didn’t bother to attempt to satisfy.
Future guests, if you choose this B&B choose a standalone cabin or a upper level room. Do not expect a good nights sleep in the...
Read moreAbsolutely beautiful location! I stayed in the Bear Iris room, which was spacious and charming with a queen bed, fireplace, and even a Japanese bath with jets. Gorgeous views from the room and lots of little places around the property to enjoy the scenery. There are spectacular views of the river on the property, altho you can't see it from this particular room. The owners are a lovely older couple, very welcoming! Breakfast was excellent as well, it was delivered to the room in a basket around 8-8:30am. I chose to eat in the room but I suppose you could take the basket to any of the cute sitting areas and eat there. Room was very clean, organized logically, and homey. Included a little fridge, microwave, eating utensils, coffee, tea, and of course towels, robes, and some toiletries. Oh, and a tv and free wifi. Masks were used when around others but there were so many places with chairs and a view that were spread far apart that we just wore our masks to get there and took them off while seated since there was no one within a good 20 ft at least. There are 4 other rooms, I suggest checking them out on their website. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone as I already plan to return with...
Read moreI'm so thankful that I found this special place. It looked lovely and quaint when I saw it online so I knew it would be a great place to stay. |When travelling around Washington my husband and I stayed in 9 different places and this was our last destination and we definitely saved the best til last! Its beyond beautiful here!|We stayed in the Mountain room which was gorgeous. It had nice little luxuries like bathrobes, a two headed shower and a huge comfy bed. A homemade breakfast basket was delivered in the morning by the lovely Herschel and included yummy warm muffins made by Peggy along with a hearty hot dish. Teamed with a freshly brewed coffee from the in-room coffee machine it made for the perfect morning sitting outside on the deck listening to the river and the birds.|I shed a little tear when leaving this place, it feels THAT special. We're already trying to plan how we can come and stay for longer next time as the area has so much to offer.|Thanks again Herschel and Peggy for your warm welcome and...
