I loved every aspect of this stay. To make it easier, I'll bullet point it:
Location- You are 2 miles from the park entrance. It still takes an hour to drive into the valley, but beyond over-paying for a space in the over-crowded valley in rooms that are largely in various states of decay, you cannot beat the proximity of this location.
You are also close to a few markets (one maybe 1/4 mile up the road and another at Wawona maybe 4 miles the other way), a gas station, and the Tenaya Lodge, which offers hot food, a bar, and a spa. We took advantage of the restaurant at Tenaya when we had a long day in the Valley and were getting home wanting more than just a sandwich we could whip up in our room.
Pamela- She is your hostess and is communicative, caring, and incredibly knowledgable. Do not miss out on her expertise! She has great suggestions as a local and from your booking she keeps in constant contact regarding your stay. We were wanting for nothing.
Rooms- They are spotless and spacious. We stayed in the early spring, so nights and mornings were cool to cold and the days warmed up to about 70F max. There is an easy to use heater (an electric stove) that readily heats up the room. I am not sure how the AC is in summer, we never got hot in April.
Amenities- A continential breakfast is served daily. It is nice not to have to worry about this meal and just be able to eat, pack away a snack, and be ready for the park. It is not a hot, sit-down affair- but light bites like pastries, bread, cheese, fruit, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, coffee, and juice. Items vary a bit each day and are ready by 6:30am to accomodate the early risers.
There are also board games, books, a huge collection of DVDs, and a few extra charging cables and adapters for guests. Pamela also had a jar of peanuts for guests to be able to feed the local Stellar's Jays from their balconies.
A large porch would be lovely to sit on in warmer months and a beautiful river flows just outside of...
Read moreBig Creek Inn is the ideal base camp for your Yosemite adventures. Its location is only two miles from the south entrance making for an easy drive into the park. The inn is immaculate, and Dustie, the innkeeper, is gracious and friendly. She makes every effort to ensure her guests are well taken care of. We stayed in the Mariposa Room, which was spacious and pleasant. The gas fireplace is a welcome addition on the chilly evenings, and the 2 bathrooms guarantee that you won’t have to share a sink and storage with your traveling partner. As bird nerds, we truly enjoyed our visits from the stellar jays! Dustie provides peanuts so that you can feed them on your balcony. The Mariposa Room has a huge window over the table so you feel like you are in a treehouse as you watch the jays flit through the pine trees! The inn is truly charming and pristine, and Dustie is the perfect hostess to guarantee that you will have a wonderful vacation! Tip…enjoy a relaxing dinner at Jackalope’s down the road and pick up provisions for happy hour on your balcony at the Wawona Country Store just...
Read moreThis was by far the nicest room we’ve stayed at during our trip to California. The host was so helpful with any questions that we had and was more than willing to help you out in any way possible. The room itself was very spacious and comfortable, the bathroom I was gorgeous! We had a balcony with two rocking chairs which was a welcome sight after a day in the park. There’s a common decking area downstairs with tables and sun loungers which you’re welcome to use (and share with other guests). The parking is ample and just off the road. It probably takes around an hour to get to the centre of the national park, but there are other things to see closer to the B&B if you don’t want to go that far. The breakfast here was decent, there was enough for us but not a huge amount of choice. Food in the evenings proved to be a bit more of a trek as the nearest town is around 20 minutes away, but not the end...
