If I could leave half a star or no stars I would. We had the worst experience with this venue. We were looking for a reception venue back in 2019 and absolutely fell in love with the look, the location, and our event coordinator (at the time). We had our last meeting with our coordinator at the venue at the end of February 2020 and I know I cannot blame all of my unhappiness on the venue, a lot of it had to do with the pandemic and no one knowing how to function in this new world.
In March we were emailed from the event manager (a woman we never spoke with or knew) explaining that we could contact her with any needs during this unforeseen time. Despite the pandemic we were determined to continue with planning for our wedding in October. But after a month or two I decided to reach out to the manager and ask my questions concerning their process and how they were planned to handle this situation. The response time was from a few days to a week and even then when she responded I got the "run-around"...my questions weren't answered and my confidence in the venue was severely lacking. On top of the pandemic and response time, I found out that 2 of our payments were not applied to our account. So now there is $2,500 missing. I work during the day so I had my sister/matron of honor call and leave numerous messages and this manager didn't respond back. So I decided that it was time to sit down with the General Manager of the Hotel...it took a couple weeks for them to even get back with us on setting up a meeting but when we finally did it was at the end of JUNE (keep in mind my wedding is set for 10/3/20) and the General Manager was completely full of himself and was not reassuring in the slightest. They still hadn't located our money, they still didn't have a plan to fix the issue of lack of communication. All he wanted was our money. We asked if they would even be a possibility to continue with a reception of 160 guests and he tried to assure us that he would do anything to make it possible but at the end of the day they "will not break the law" (which I completely get ---but I have 3 months until my wedding and I need to make a decision) he even went as far as to say that they would put up a tent in their parking lot...DO NOT TELL A BRIDE THAT YOU WILL CHANGE THE VENUE THAT SHE HAS HER HEART SET ON JUST TO GET THE MONEY YOU THINK YOU DESERVE.
Needless to say that we decided, after our SHORT meeting with the General Manager, to cancel and get our money back. Luckily the general manager informed us that we could get our money back in full. HOWEVER...in that meeting he said it would be a week before we would get the money back...it took 2 months for them to figure out what they were doing and get us our money back. I am completely amazed as to how poorly a business could be so unorganized and have no sense of communication.
I was DEVISTATED...as a Bride you dream of your wedding day being EVERYTHING you wanted and to have a venue be anything less than supportive and less than perfect added so much unneeded stress. I had my heart set on this venue so much that I could see me and my husband and our family and friends celebrating what is supposed to be the happiest day of our lives. Now every time I drive by the venue of my dreams my heart breaks all over again.
They did not make my dream wedding come true and now I will never have that version of my wedding...I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. Go somewhere else where the event manager and the general manager will actually LISTEN and TALK and PLAN your special day with you...
Read moreMy 9-year-old grandson absolutely loved the room, pool, and food and kept saying "We need to give this place 5 stars!" So, since my husband and I also thought that overall the hotel warranted a 5-star score, that's what it gets. I must give an appreciative shout-out to five people: firstly and especially to both the woman who was manning the entry desk on the evening of Thursday 4/6 and the man (Jeremiah R.) who was there that evening AND the following Friday morning (4/7) for remedying our somewhat frustrating situation by getting our points transferred from the other Kalamazoo Marriot, which is where we originally intended to stay but changed our plans... AFTER the woman manning THAT desk checked us in, which was BEFORE she mentioned that the pool was closed. Although my husband spent too much time on the phone that evening with two different women at corporate, both of whom were pretty unhelpful and unfriendly, Jeremiah got the $200+ charge taken off our credit card and once again the room was covered by the points we had earned! I respect those who actually care about other people's money, so thank you again to that kind and honest young man as well as the uniquely friendly woman with the bright smile and the complimentary breakfast tickets (the omelette and french toast entrees were delicious and would have been well-worth paying for... if we had been required to do so!). Also an appreciative nod to the two hotel-restaurant servers--the woman on Thu evening and woman on Fri morning--for their hard work and friendly service! I recommend the Cobb salad with the (very) tasty smoked ham and crispy bacon for a (very) reasonable price.
The reception room and restaurant settings--chairs, sofas, mock fireplaces, and wall decor are impressive, modern, comfortable, and inviting at all the Marriotts that we frequent (Indy and Chicago, MOST frequently).
The pool and hot tub are enormous with easy/personal access to many of the rooms on the 1st and 2nd floors. The beds and pillows were as comfy as any of the best I've slept on at hotels. Check-out was at 12/noon, which was especially pleasing to my grandson who wanted plenty of time to swim again in the morning! Simply having to open our interior door and then walk 20 steps to be poolside, rather than having to walk down various hallways and use an elevator... was especially pleasing to my husband and me!
I recommend!
Thank you, Delta Marriott!
Postscript: Ha, I forgot the fifth person for whom to express our appreciation. No idea what his name is but after I shut the room door way too hard, we couldn't get back in without this very helpful and deft young man who impressed us with his use of a contraption for opening doors. He was so good-natured about it. I felt bad, but certainly not because of how...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed here for three nights while she was shooting a TV show. The price wasn't too bad for the quality. There were a few problems, but they were mostly minor. For one, I was surprised there was no microwave oven in our room. I've never stayed at a hotel that didn't have one in every room. There was a refrigerator to keep things fresh, but nothing for reheating. The bed itself was very comfortable, but there was only a single sheet and a thin blanket so we had trouble keeping warm. Which brings me to the next problem. The housekeeping staff reset our thermostat every single day, even though we were staying another night. We had to change it to our comfort level every single day. I can understand resetting it once a guest checks out and the room has to be reset for the next occupants, but not when the guest is not leaving. I found that rather rude. Another problem was with the ice makers. There was one on each of the four floors. Two of them had 'out of service' signs and one of the others didn't work anyway. The only one that worked was on the 4th floor and we had to figure that our on our own. My final problem was with the desk lamp. It had built-in outlets and USB ports, which made connecting chargers and laptop cords very convenient. I plugged in my laptop, my phone charger, and my smartwatch charger and then settled in for the night. In the morning I discovered all my devices had dead batteries. Further investigation revealed the lamp was plugged into an outlet that was connected to the light switch on the wall. Turning off the ceiling light shuts off the power to the lamp and everything plugged into it. What's the point of having such an innovative device if you plug it into a switched outlet?
There were some good things as well. As I said, other than the lack of blankets, the room was very comfortable. The shower had superior water pressure, which was very welcome indeed. The restaurant was very accommodating to my wife's food allergy problems and the food was pretty good. The only thing I didn't like was the black bean burger. It fell apart and simply tasted like someone put beans on a hamburger bun. It needed seasoning and a binding agent. The rest was very good. It's the only restaurant that I've encountered that properly uses Russian dressing on its Reuben sandwich instead of cheaping out with Thousand Island (which technically makes it a Rachel). But it did use marble bread instead of the more accurate dark rye, so I have yet to find a proper Reuben in a restaurant. That being said, it was still very tasty.
We didn't have time to check out the pool, exercise room, or other facilities outside our room and the restaurant, but overall we had a...
