I stayed at Baymont Inn and Suites at 2203 South 11th in Kalamazoo, MI. I checked in Tuesday August 11th and checked out Sunday August 16th. I was in town for the Michigan Fiber Festival which I attend every year. I will not be staying at this location again. I had made my reservation through the AAA website and had requested a dog friendly hotel. I paid in full at that time. I had reserved a room with a single king sized bed. When I checked in I made no secret that I was traveling with a dog.
The first thing I noticed upon arrival was the water ran rusty out of the pipes. It did clear up after running it a couple minutes.
On Wednesday afternoon when I returned to my room the bathroom had been tidied by housekeeping, but the bed had not been made. I assumed the housekeeper was afraid of the dog even though he was in his kennel. I chose not to say anything as I know that some people have an innate fear of dogs, even small ones locked in a kennel.
On Thursday when I returned to my room I was happy to see the bed had been made. When I was coming in from walking the dog the young lady on duty stopped me and asked if I was in room 325. I confirmed I was. At that point she told me I would need to switch rooms as that room was not a designated pet room. I agreed to change rooms. At no time prior to this did anybody ask about the dog.
I was switched to room 101. As I was moving all of my belongings I noticed the room smelled of mildew. I did let the young lady at the desk know. In general the room was inferior to the room I had booked. Not only did it smell of mildew but the carpet felt damp on my bare feet, the furnishings were worn, the light switches were loose and it took several tries to turn them on (one never came on), the water ran very dark brown, and the bedding looked as though it had been stored balled up in a plastic bag..
On Friday I went online to check my credit card statement. I was surprised to find a $100.00 charge from the hotel. I immediately went to the front desk where I was told it was because I was staying more than two nights with a pet. At no time was I informed of this additional charge. I was informed there was no manager on duty, but that they would call me.
When checking out on Sunday the front desk at first refused to give me a receipt for the additional charge because I had received a receipt when I booked the room. I demanded a copy of the receipt for the additional $100.00 as it was charged after I had booked the room and without my knowledge or consent. She did print me a copy of the...
Read moreThere are so many concerns with this property, I'm unsure where to even start.
I understand that the 3 year renovation is taking time, however this is horrendous.
This is the 2nd time we've used this property, and this time is only because I forgot the experience with the homeless and drunks in the parking lot the first time.
We are on the 4th floor. The elevator is broken, and the stairs in the middle of the building are blocked for work. Multiple trips to the front desk, made this a considerable annoyance.
1st room, TV not set up. After asking maintenance to leave after 15 minutes of trying to reprogram the remotes, I noticed that the signal was not reaching the directv box. After several times of saying we would just deal with it, to get this guy out of our room, we finally had to make it more obvious and ask him to leave. After moving the TV stand and aiming at the directv box, we could finally change channels, but he took the remote programmed for the volume. No big deal, maybe we could relax finally.
Began using the jacuzzi tub. After 3 minutes it tripped the gfci in the sink area. Reset, 2 minutes later, tripped. This went on a few times before requesting another room.
Next room, multiple long and short hair in the shower, dirty towels again, but at least the small TV worked, somewhat.
Jacuzzi time. The reason for the trip, relaxation. 3 minutes and gfci trips.
Reset with fingers crossed - 3 minutes, trips again. Either they have power fluctuations in the entire hotel, affecting the power signal, or they're in desperate need to replace all of their gfci switches... but, I give up, and just have to laugh at this failing dump.
The towels in our room were used. Still with dirt marks on 3 of the 3 body towels. We had to dry off using the floor mat and a hand towel.
Absolutely a failure by the property to maintain their equipment in an operable manner. There will be no returning...
Read moreWe came here after a brief, nightmarish stay at the nearby Super 8. Compared to that place, this was a haven, a 5 star resort. Most of the review that follows will be from a perspective of already seeing the lowest of the lows, so if you're used to Hiltons and Marriotts, please keep that fact in mind.
The Baymont was a bright light in a dark cave. The staff member at the counter was very friendly and got us a room right away. The elevator worked and got us all the way to our floor smoothly (I realize that shouldn't be something to mention but trust me it is). Right as we walked in we noticed the leg of a table sitting on the bathroom counter; the table was further in the room on its side. Immediately we went down to the front desk to inform them so we wouldn't get charged, they acknowledged the issue and hopefully it won't come back to haunt us (will update if it does).
The room was clean and had all the amenities: HDTV, microwave, mini-fridge, coffee pot, clean towels, etc.. The bed was pretty comfy and had plenty of pillows. It wasn't a jaw dropping experience, but unlike the Super 8 there were no cigarette burns in the comforter...
Free breakfast was still fully stocked the Friday morning before it closed. They had biscuits and gravy, small omelettes, a waffle maker, oatmeal, juice of all kinds, hardboiled eggs, cereal, individually packaged milks, and tons of baked goods including muffins and toast. Overall I was extremely satisfied with the breakfast.
Besides the broken table, there were several other issues. The bathroom door wouldn't stay closed, the toilet seat had to be held up (not the cover, just the seat), and the side entrances seemed to be unlocked or wedged open. These were minor issues and we easily overlooked them. Overall I would say it was a pleasant stay, especially considering the price, and I would recommend it to most...
