Long story short--reserved room type means nothing, kids running up and down hall late, a/c didn't cool sufficiently and a bank of outlets didn't work in one room, and overcharged.
Reserved two rooms for two nights months ago; a double and a king, as close to adjoining as possible. When we checked in, only king rooms were available, despite having reserved with a credit card. On the first night, after standing at the check in for over twenty minutes waiting for the front desk clerk to physically go check rooms to see if they could be rented, we ended up two king rooms, three floors apart, with a promise that we could change the next night. The room on the second floor had kids running up and down the hall until well after midnight. The room on the fifth floor had an air conditioner that wouldn't cool below 78 degrees and the outlet bank next to the tv that didn't work, despite pushing the reset button several times.
We basically had to check out the next morning, and pack all our stuff down to the car so we could re-check in that night. When we got back, we did receive rooms near each other on the same floor, and of the requested types. They were mostly ok, with a couple of small cleanliness issues. However, when we received our bill under the door the next morning, we were charged $10/night over our reserved rate on one of the rooms. (To be fair, we were not charged at all for the wrong room on the first night.) When I brought this up at check out and showed the original reservation email with the rate, I was initially told that was because we were moved to a high floor room. When I pointed out that I simply asked to be moved to a room that had properly working a/c and had made no requests as to floor, they then had to go check with a manager (that never appeared) for several minutes before they could refund the overcharge.
We had stayed at this hotel several previous times, as we stay in Overland Park probably a 10-15 times a year, and had had wonderful stays each time, until the last time in January. We decided to give it another shot, but after this two day disaster, I am not sure we will give it a...
Read moreOur dance studio booked this hotel for our National competition last year. I was having issues with credit card balances and took enough cash to pay for both hotel rooms for 4 nights in cash and did make them aware at the front desk that I knew I would need to pay in cash. My problem completely and not the hotels. I did ask that it be noted in the room memos so it wouldn't be an issue. My daughters were locked out of their rooms as I went to seek medical assistance for a problem with my foot, which ended up being broken. Our second days stay we entered the hotel elevator and were startled to see a sign posted. "Hyatt Place Quiet Hours" To ensure that you are able to rest comfortably, we ask that our guests please observe the hotel quiet hours from 9 pm to 8 am. Please contact a Gallery Host by dialing "0" from your guest room if you have any questions about this policy or need to report a disturbance. Thank you and enjoy your stay with us. Not only did the hotel book our dance studio they also booked a birthday party for 8 year olds, and a boys baseball team. We were told that the police would be contacted if we weren't out of the pool area at 10 pm. If I knew that my stay at this place would have been like this I would have gladly paid additional money to stay elsewhere. Our national competition is in the same location and our studio was going to "re-book" our stay with Hyatt. Upon parents disapproval we will be staying at another location. Why am I now just making my review? We have just booked our stay at a different hotel. I personally will not be staying at any Hyatt or Hyatt Place business again. I hope that if you have children you would consider this review prior to booking. If you see it afterward - I hope your stay was...
Read moreMy experience here has been hellish. After making a reservation, checking in, unpacking, and taking a minute to rest, I noticed that they were painting just outside my room. The fumes were nauseating, and there was no effort in place to address the fumes like fans or open windows/doors. No one told me this would be happening outside my room, or I could've got out for the day or even found somewhere else to stay for the night. When I asked the hotel about this, they said that they can have me move rooms frequently to be out of their way for construction because they are working on the ENTIRE hotel at the same time as opposed to doing everything on one floor where they keep guests off, and then moving on. They encouraged me to leave and shamed me for having a longer stay with them. I tried to explain that my disabilities prevent me from being able to switch rooms frequently and that I never would've checked in if I knew this was the situation. They can only offer to not upcharge me for staying less time since it's not my choice, but I'm on my own to find a new place, pay the difference in cost, hire a caregiver to help me pack, move, and unpack. I'm out days of my life dealing with this as they send me in circles and have multiple people tell me the same information, expressing that this all seems perfectly okay to expose hotel visitors to hazardous fumes and to force visitors to switch rooms without telling them at check in or when making the reservation. Not to mention that this hotel doesn't provide basics - like there will be a bag for the trash but it won't be in place in the trash can. There's no lotion, tea, paper, pen, or other things you would expect to just be present in a room at this...
