I recently spent two nights at the Grand Victorian Inn in Park City, KY, and I left with fond memories, including the sound of trains at night. The inn is a beautifully renovated historic train station on an active rail line, preserved with charming Victorian decor, antiques, and a whimsical, storybook ambience. About six trains pass during the night, and I thoroughly enjoyed hearing them as it added to the historic charm and authenticity of the experience.
The wrap-around porch is a lovely spot to unwind, especially with a drink, as the sun sets. Bring your wonderings and mosquito spray to make the most of this peaceful space. All of the baths are private, and the accommodations are quaint, with rooms on the smaller side but thoughtfully arranged. Our suite had a walk-in shower with no tub, and the water was plentiful and hot. Cozy rooms with free Wi-Fi and air-conditioning made for comfortable accommodations. Although there are no guest controls for the air conditioning, the setting in my room was perfect throughout my stay.
Do not come here for the TV, as it is really the size of a laptop screen, which made it perfect for me because it was unobtrusive and unused. A shared refrigerator is located in the downstairs hallway by the back door, as the rooms do not have their own refrigerators. There is no Keurig or other coffee maker in the room, and the shared coffee area is only open from about 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Coffee was served promptly at 8:00 a.m., with breakfast following at 8:30 a.m., both reliable and well-prepared. Breakfast featured scrambled eggs, bacon, fruit, pancakes or waffles, plus juice and coffee.
The location is unbeatable for visiting nearby Mammoth Cave National Park. I do not believe we could have found lodging closer without actually staying at the lodge inside the park. The inn even serves as a trailhead for bike and hike paths. The owners are gracious and personable, happy to share stories of the inn's history.
If I could give one suggestion to the hosts, it would be to make a Keurig or similar coffee option available in a common area 24/7 for guests. If you are looking for a romantic, nostalgic retreat just minutes from Mammoth Cave, the Grand Victorian Inn offers charm, comfort, and a picturesque setting. For me, the passing trains, historic setting, and quiet porch made it a uniquely...

We were very excited for our RESERVED 1-night stay at the Inn; we called 6 days in advance and had a lovely conversation with Karin regarding our late arrival and early departure plans, as we were simply passing through for a cave tour. She accommodated us with access instructions and an early breakfast option. Two days before our departure we received an automated email that our reservation was REBOOKED for a different day. Without notice or communication, Karin elected to move our stay due to her own over-booking mistake. When I called, Karin claimed she wanted to “call me back in a few minutes” and was reluctant to speak with me. She admitted it was her mistake; she was accommodating a group with 2-rooms for 3-nights that she mistakenly thought was 2-nights and needed our room. As I explained to her, it was a financial CHOICE to accommodate the higher rate group, which she denied. She apologized and stated that was all she could do, which I disagreed with, and that I had “3 days” to find another option. I believed we were disconnected at that point, so I called back at which time I was told she would be calling Expedia to report me for harassment, and then she abruptly hung up once again. There was in no manner any harassment. Karin is apparently uncomfortable with discussing and addressing her own fraudulent behavior. As a result, we had to initiate cancelling the newly booked date Karin assigned us to, although she knew we had no intention of being in town on that date. We also had to fight proposed cancellation charges for a fictitious change we supposedly made. Ultimately we were also responsible for finding our own alternate accommodations with two days notice, which resulted in a higher rate. We’re unsure where the moral compass was on this one, but would recommend anyone steer clear unless you want to be subject to Karin’s...
Read moreA mansion like grand villa - will remind you classic Hollywood murder mystery films. We reached in the evening, and the owners told me before from where to pick the keys. There was nobody in the front desk/ office when we reached. It was 7:00 ish in the evening ( summer time - sunlight was there) and we picked our keys from the watering pot which was placed in front of the building. We went inside and there was nobody. The building was more like a set from old Hollywood classic. We looked for our room ( she said that it’s on the first floor). We found ours and went inside. We never saw any person in the night. To be honest we were a bit scared too, lol! There were train lines right in front of the building. We heard a couple of trains passing by in the night. It only enhanced the charm. The room was neat and clean. The ac was on, although I never see the controller. It was a bit hot for me. I found a small fan in the room, and it made me feel comfortable. The bed was great - soft yet firm, with loads of pillows. However, I must say it was little small in size for two adults! The bathroom was clean too. It was spacious. They provided enough clean towels and other basic toiletries. We slept well. Next day morning I knew we had breakfast included as complementary with the night reservation. The owner texted me the time. I thought it should be there for a while- so I reached in the dining hall for breakfast at 9:30ish, and learnt that we were late by an hour!! However, the lady was very sweet to keep it for us. She fried fresh pancakes and served us with eggs and bacons. The dining room was huge with all old furniture and antiques. The breakfast was great. Overall, our experience was pretty good. One thing- the...
