My mother booked two Super 8 hotel rooms when my family and I were in the process of moving out of our rental apartment. My husband and I had been working for two days straight on little sleep and were absolutely exhausted. We were still moving things out in the early morning hours following the day of check in and had not even been to the hotel to rest. My mom took our children to the hotel to sleep while we were still at our apartment, trying to beat our deadline for move-out. We were not finished until 8 am (worked through the night). With check-out at 11 am, and a three-hour drive to our new location, we were really demoralized to think of how little sleep we were going to get. Hotel management graciously agreed to let us stay until 2 pm. Our sleep was amazing. I hated to crawl out of bed. The shower felt great, too, following two days of heavy lifting in the heat and no shower (I know, gross).
Then, in the rush to get checked out by 2 pm, our oldest daughter left behind her beloved pocket watch. The gentleman who cleaned our room found it and was just taking it downstairs to the front desk when my mom returned to see if it had been found. My daughter was relieved.
For this degree of accommodating service, Super 8 by Whyndham in Pella gets my gratitude. Thank you for being a little shining light in a rather stressful situation...
Read moreI don't understand why "budget" hotels are always gross. There were gross looking stains on our shower curtain and the enamel of the tub was wearing away. Clearly no one's vacuumed in weeks around the nightstand. Part of the already small lobby/eating area was being used as a storage area for boxes. My sheets had a different gross looking stain. We paid $274 ($307 with tax!) a night for a room with a king and a queen bed. Yes, we came during tulip time, but whatever the rate wherever and whenever it is shouldn't mean going without a standard minimum of cleanliness. This part is me being picky, but breakfast was just a bunch of cheap, surgery junk with the exception of hard boiled eggs. Bare bones unhelpful staff. Gets two stars because I did appreciate that the coffee machine had a hot water dispenser available in the evening to make tea and it's about a mile from the center of town, which made it walkable, though a long walk. Unfortunately, the town doesn't have a ton of hotel options so you may be stuck here so take this as a note to book your hotel early elsewhere or be content with staying a little...
Read moreEasy to find. Breakfast was better than nothing but I have had better. WiFi worked well. Our room only had two Pillows and the front desk attendant seemed annoyed I was asking for more but he did comply. The room was okay, had been updated recently. Room 200 AC was not up to my standards. I felt we were lucky if the room stayed below 71 with High AC selection, I prefer the room nice and cool. Bed was firm but just fine. T.v. Had limited channels but was something. Our room had a smell to it bit could be from the update that seemed recent. Deep bathtub and shower both worked well. They could invest in new towels but in a tiny town like Pella, your options are limited. We picked this because we didn't want to spend a lot and it was a good bargain. I would recommend for someone looking for a place to stay that comes with WiFi and breakfast for cheaper than the competition that don't want the fancy of the fancy for...
