If you're looking for a modern "express" hotel with a free continental breakfast, this isn't it - keep driving. But, if you appreciate classic, old-fashioned motor lodges like the ones that used to dot US Highways before the Interstates by-passed all the small towns, this is a good one. There have been a couple of modernizations to the rooms but it's pretty easy to imagine that you've traveled back in time to the 60s or 70s. Our room was clean and comfortable with no cigarette stink. My wife was skeptical and checked everything. It passed her inspection, which says a lot. The beds had perfectly decent quality mattresses and relatively new bed clothes and pillows. We arrived late and had no reservation, but someone came to the window quickly and got us checked in with no hassles at all. We got our KEY, parked in front of our room door, and got our stuff into the room within 10 minutes of arriving. Wi-Fi worked fine. TV was a newer LCD model. Plenty of channels. The bathroom was also clean and stocked. Pretty much all original ceramic wall tiles, chunky ceramic-over-steel tub with shower, etc. Typical motel towels. Nice and quiet all night - no noises from other rooms and no kids running up and down the halls like you frequently get at newer, fancier "express" hotels. In the morning we got checked out in a couple of minutes and were on our way. There are several other old motels in this area and I'd love to check out some others, but I would definitely stay at...
Read moreIf I could give this place zero stars, I would. Gandy Motor Lodge in Perry, FL is nothing short of a nightmare. The rooms are filthy—stained carpets, mold in the bathroom, and an overwhelming stench of mildew that hits you the moment you walk in. The bedding looked like it hadn’t been washed in weeks, with visible dirt and questionable stains.
Safety is another major concern. The door locks were barely functional, and the windows didn’t close properly, making me feel uneasy the entire night. The parking lot was poorly lit, and I saw several shady characters hanging around, which only added to my discomfort.
To top it off, the staff was rude and unhelpful. It’s clear they don’t care about maintaining this dump. Do yourself a favor—avoid this place at all costs. It should be condemned and torn down...
Read moreAfter checking into a competitor, I didn’t feel safe, nor was I entirely certain the other place wasn’t up to illicit business, so I called the Gandy Motor Lodge. The owners are an extremely friendly and kind family, who were very accommodating for me and my small dogs. Although the outside looked like it was the original aesthetics from days of yore, inside the room was clean, spacious, and with modern amenities. The bathroom had updated fixtures, and the water pressure was pretty decent. Also, it had an actual key and dead bolt. There were no adjoining doors to other rooms, and the WiFi connection was a decent speed. The price was so affordable, I asked to extend my stay another night. I whole-heartedly recommend the Gandy Motor Lodge to anyone who passes...
