My husband and I have been staying at the Atlantis for over a decade. This was the first vacation we took together before we were married. We celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary here this past week. I can’t believe I haven’t written a review before— maybe it’s because the rooms book up so far in advance that it feels wise to keep it a secret! LOL Even though I’m introverted, coming to the Atlantis feels like being part of a family. It’s very accommodating to dogs— dog people are just the very best. We especially love getting to see the reception staff— Marianna is always incredibly sweet and helpful. Jackie is a great conversationalist, and Debbie has been a fixture here since long before we started staying here. She knows everything there is to know and is an amazing resource! The #1 reason we love the Atlantis aside from the people is how clean it is! The grounds are beautiful and the rooms are *always* spotless. They take extensive measures for mold abatement— Ive never stayed in a mold free beachfront spot except at the Atlantis. We love that they leave “dog sheets” so that we don’t have to worry about getting the furniture furry. Going outdoors with the dogs, whether to the beach or the perfectly-sized dog park is also very pleasant. The Atlantis provides little dog poop shovels— if you’ve got your eyes peeled, you’ll find there’s always one within a few feet. We love being able to skip the plastic and throw their poop in the copious shrubbery. We have two big dogs, and the dog park is big enough for them to do zoomies and play the way they like to. I also notice that I don’t get too many big bites, so I wonder if they treat certain areas for mosquitoes. At the beach, our fuzziest boy loves to enjoy the ocean breeze on his own towel-covered lounge chair under an umbrella. The people on duty at the beach are always SO sweet, polite, and accommodating. They do a great job setting up shady spots in the sand for human and canine guests. In-room perks: every room we’ve stayed in is great! The way the Atlantis is designed ensures every guest has a view of the ocean. All porches are equipped with chairs, a footstool, and a clothesline with clothespins. There are hangers in the little closet, a broom and flyswatter, Kleenex. A nice roomy ikea dresser is a great size for all the clothes you want to bring, and with a little rearranging of the provided dinnerware, there’s plenty of space for pantry items in the cupboards. There are plenty of lamps so the ambiance is lovely even at night (no ugly overhead fluorescents like you get in some hotels). The TV and Wi-Fi work great. Most rooms we’ve stayed in have an L shaped sofa and a pull out bed. The accordion wall is one of our favorite features of the room; it does a great job at blocking out light where the bedroom half of the room is if one person wants to stay up late or sleep in. It’s only on recent trips that we ventured up to the lounge area, which is pretty cool. You can’t bring dogs up there though! We renewed our vows on the top floor deck at sunset and our friends and family met us in the lounge for pizza and brownies a la mode. It was perfect. The lounge also closes at a reasonable hour, so if you’re in one of the rooms below, you won’t be kept up late by people playing pool and ping pong. My mom, who recently joined us for the first time here, loves lounging at the pool. Dogs are not allowed in this area, either. It’s a really pretty and serene spot. The beautiful trees overhanging provide a good amount of shade. Thank you Atlantis, for all the treasured memories we’ve made here! We love you! Tip: we bring a travel size spray bottle of Mrs. Meyers’ all purpose cleaner to add to the dish soap, paper towels, and sponge that Atlantis provides. Kitchenwise, we can get by on the knives and cutting boards provided, but usually bring our own, plus olive oil and spices. We also always pack our dog water and food bowls, placemats to put under their bowls, a dog bed, floor mats to help keep sand at bay, and some extra towels and blankets for our dogs.

Our family went to Atlantis Lodge for an extended weekend at the end of July 2022. We arranged for 3 rooms. One small room w/out a kitchen and two with the kitchenette. We could not ask for a more relaxing vacation. We have a service dog that we planned to bring with us, but that did not work out because she had to go to training. However, there were plenty of dogs on the property. That said, our rooms were immaculate, and did not have fragrance to cover up “pet smell” which is fabulous for me because I am allergic to fragrances, I was totally surprised. Some may think this is not the most " modern" looking place but, who needs a modern “look or feel”. It has all the needed amenities. Besides, there’s the beach and that’s what it’s all about! The beach is fabulous and just a quick walk away and like other reviewers have said there are plenty of chairs and umbrellas, toys, boogie boards, for use, and the staff helps you set up. The pool is in the other direction. IF you get tired of the beach, they have a wonderful lounge that has a pool table, ping pong table and seating area that the family could sit or eat at while looking out at the beach. It’s up on the third floor so not really “accessible”.  It is truly a family environment. I was not nervous about having my 15 year old nephew walk around alone on the property. The only thing I regretted was that we did not stay longer, because there are plenty of activities in town as well. Our family went kayaking and since we had the kitchenettes we saved on restaurants and used the grills and cooked on site. Good regular everyday family fun at the beach. My eight year old nephew made the decision that this will be our family vacation every year now!

I really like Atlantis! I have visited twice, and I highly recommend it to my friends and family. If you want to get a room during the summer (or Spring or Fall) you need to make reservations early. This place is NICE, and other people know it too! I would visit more often, but I always wait too long to reserve a room, and then nothing is available. A few more suggestions... For a better view of the beach get a room on the second or third floor. For a great view of sunrise or sunset get a room on the east or west wing. (East faces west, and west faces east.) Get a room in the middle if you want to be closer to the ice machine, vending machines, and the parking lot. Honestly, I think all the rooms are probably pretty great, but I definitely prefer the space in their suites. The plastic balcony chairs are not so great so take your own folding chair. My personal chair was way more comfortable. Also, take your own plastic cups. The room only has glasses. Note about local restaurants... Michaelangelo's has pretty good pizza. Avoid Sanitary Fish Market in Morehead City. It has seriously gone down hill since I last ate there in the 80s. Overpriced and disappointing. Bogue House in Swansboro is VERY good (and cheaper). Also, while you're in the area, visit Beaufort. It's a great place to spend half a day. Lots to do and see. Restaurants around the waterfront tend to be very expensive so you might want to find something outside that area. Also, parking fills up early in the summer.

We first heard about Atlantis through Our State magazine and are truly pleased with our experience. This is a truly “old school” lodging for anyone with happy memories of unspoiled, small-town beach going pre 1970’s. The atmosphere is welcoming and very pet friendly. We stayed five nights and found our suite exceptionally clean and well-appointed, with a huge bathroom, dual sinks and cabinets, plenty of clean linen and towels. The water pressure in the shower and hot water were fantastic (we’ve stayed places with old, broken plumbing and were dreading the bathroom).

The suite itself was VERY thoughtfully designed with lots of closet space (enough room to be a separate dressing area) deep bookcase shelving, very comfortable living room furniture, basic dining table and seating for four, private ocean-view deck, great appliances and plenty of plates, cups, cookware and coffee maker. A 42” flat screen tv for rainy days and music choices. The AC was in excellent working order. A separate dehumidifier was quite noisy but we only ran it during the day.

Outside - two nice areas for walking pets, with a collection station for pet waste - they include bags. The outdoor dog washing station was very welcome and shampoos/conditioner are provided. There are many nice outdoor nooks with intimate seating as well as a very large, coveted outdoor seating area with comfortable modern outdoor furniture, fire pit, bbq grills and picnic tables. On the beach you’ll find plenty of beach chairs, loungers and umbrellas.

On the not so great side - no elevators. Those with mobility issues will need to stay first floor. The walkways are narrow and aside from the walkway up from the parking lot to the office, there are no other walkway access points; you need to drag/pull your luggage several feet to the walkway level, which is an issue for older folks who cannot lift much.

The pool is absolutely gorgeous - but - the heating system was out of order. We had hoped for warm water swimming - we’re recovering from knee/back surgeries and had counted on having this as an option. Usually, the pool is open until the end of October. This will NOT keep us from returning, though.

The whole complex has concrete flooring, covered in carpet or linoleum - we were on the first floor and noise from the unit above was an issue. Chairs scraping the floor, stomping footsteps, running and slamming doors after midnight were a problem. Next year we will bring earplugs.

Far more pluses than minuses on this place. It is NOT fancy, not a “bath and tennis club” vibe - just very clean lodgings, lots of room, GREAT private stretch of beach and plenty of beautiful areas to soak it all in.

Almost forgot - the beds are INCREDIBLE! Very,...
