Cottonwood Inn Motel — Hotel in Pocahontas

We were traveling thru the area and got to the point where we couldn't go any farther. First motel we had seen in awhile, so we stopped to see if they would take dogs since we were travelling with one this trip. We got a room at the very back of the property in the secondary building. Even on a weekend night, it was quiet at the back of the facility. ||However, there were issues concerning maintenance and upkeep. There were places in the carpet where it was coming apart it was so old. The bathroom door was in such bad shape and such inferior materials that the laminate was peeling off the bottom of the door. A door like that should never be used in a high moisture area like a bathroom. The bed in our room was fairly firm, the pillows were terrible.||There was no in room coffee maker. As a non coffee drinker, it didn't bother me, but thought I should give a heads up to others. This facility also does NOT offer any sort of free breakfast like most places do. In fact, it also does not have vending machines. If you want a can of Dr. Pepper, Coke, etc, you have to buy it in the office.||Finally, security is minimal at best. Doors to the room open directly to the outside, not into a hall. There is no fencing or anything else to keep someone from walking onto the property. ||For a one night emergency stay, it was doable, but if I had my choice in another situation, I would pay a little more and...

After checking in, i went to room to take in my bags and the room had not been cleaned yet. The beds were stripped with the clean and folded sheets on the table but the pillows and comforters were tossed in front of dresser on the floor and trash was still in the trash can. I went to front desk and she said I had to wait on housekeeping because there was no other rooms available (then and 8 hours later - there is the same 2 vehicles in the ENTIRE parking lot). 3 hours after i intially checked in, the room was "finished". It had been vacuumed and beds were made with clean sheets but the comforters were reused from the previous guest. Toilet was clean, water was hot, and great water pressure in shower. But there is grime and black mildew spots everywhere and floor is the same. And it appears a soda exploded everywhere and got ignored. All that being said, I over looked all that for the low price. Based on comparison to other rural motels I think they earn a 5 star. We stayed in a (two queen) room 124 which has been updated with furniture and flooring. Easy access to back right up to the door to unload. I called to check availability when we were 30 minutes away and Mr. Vickey was ready to check us in when we arrived. Room was clean, no old motel odor and nothing was in need of repair. Tv was easy to operate along with remote for ac/heat unit. Walls are a little thin and could hear the guests next door in the shower but not so disruptive I couldn’t sleep. Water pressure and hot water is fantastic in the shower. Breakfast is coffee and some small off brand cookies and snacks. This was the only thing that was a little disappointing but the room rate was very fair so not a deal breaker. We were on a short overnight stay while traveling on vacation and would stay again. There were several law enforcement officers staying there along with construction crew.
