My family and I visit Pocatello once a year for a family reunion and have been doing so for many, many years. This was our first stay at the Townplace Suites where we stayed for 3 nights beginning August 1st. The access is awkward but doable and the location is good. It is right next to an Artic Circle and a lovely Italian Restaurant. The breakfast in the hotel was nice but when we got there on our first morning, the eggs were gone and we had to wait a while for the tray to be refilled. The breakfast staff was friendly but seemed they needed more help. We wanted to have some hot chocolate but the hot water dispenser was empty. After requesting hot water and waiting for a while, we just used cold water and the microwave. We didn't have breakfast there for the rest of our stay.
The front desk staff was courteous and efficient. However, the housekeeping staff needs some serious revamping. We were in a two bedroom suite and it was not cleaned or serviced during our entire 3-night stay. We complained to the front desk staff and received apologies and the explanation that they were "short staffed" and only could clean the rooms where the guests checked out. We got the distinct impression that they cared more about one night stays in a regular room than they did about guests in a suite for three nights. We feel that, at the very least, they should have given us clean towels and toiletries but we had to ask for them every day. When my 9 year old granddaughter asked one of the housekeeping staff for help locating an ice machine, she was snapped at. When checking out, I talked to the manager, Jeffrey, who was very receptive to our comments and apologized for our bad experience. The front desk staff had not passed on our comments to him which was a little disturbing. In turn, he comped us one of the three nights which I thought was nice. Because of him, and only him, we may consider staying there again next year.
All-in-all, it is a beautiful property and well located for access to the freeway and nearby businesses. Right now, however, I don't feel comfortable recommending this...
Read moreThis past week I brought our tour group into Pocatello for an overnight stay. It was my first time there as a Tour Director so naturally I was looking to see how the many aspects of our visit would be handled. ||||The pre-arrival contact with Shauna was tremendously helpful, with her assuring me the group would be treated first-rate upon arrival while also offering many suggestions regarding their local dinner choices.||||Moments after pulling-in our bags were unloaded and taken to the guest's room in lightning fashion, the four ladies (managed by Rosemary) were friendly and efficient. Our passenger's keypacks were labelled and ready to go making for a super-smooth check-in, which we sorely needed after a long day on the road. ||||Shauna had asked that I get a count of our passengers looking to get dinner at the two local establishments (Jakers and Cafe Tuscano) so she could alert those staffs, which made my day easier!||||The complimentary breakfast was ready to go at 6 AM and included a good selection for our passengers to select from before our departure for Salt Lake City. Our luggage was collected by the morning luggage crew for an on-time departure.||||If Shauna and her crew couple can so easily handle our group of 41, imagine what they can do for the individual travelers or couples. I look forward to two more visits with new passengers in the next couple of weeks.||||Overall, we had a 5-star stay...
Read moreI reserved the honeymoon suite for my 5 yr anniversary; the same room we had on our honeymoon. Got there and found out that our room was ‘upgraded’ without us being notified to a two bedroom due to flooding. Bummed but understanding that it wasn’t Marriott’s fault, we went to our room passing the flooded room and hearing some people inside. I confronted the staff about the lie and they opened up about the manager giving our room away to another group. It was 6:30pm on a Saturday night and all other hotels in the area were booked. A few minutes went by and I got a call that my room would be comp’d but it didn’t matter because the room wasn’t a honeymoon suite. We traveled from out of town there specifically for that room which we discussed with management when the room was booked. Paid babysitter and vacation time from work. Now COVID is happening so I knew breakfast was going to be different but that meal wasn’t acceptable. A few apples, small packaged muffins (old) and coffee. I’m not asking for egg muffins but no juice (juice box)? Hot chocolate? Something that will be good for kids or people that aren’t coffee drinkers? I took a bite of the muffin and it didn’t taste right. I pulled out a different flavor, with the same result that ended up making us sick for the rest of the day. Sounds like a rant but this is a brief summation...
