For starters I do want to say that the hotel is very beautiful. The pool is a decent size and the decor is very aesthetically pleasing. Upon arrival, the staff was very friendly and made checking in go smoothly. Unfortunately, those are not the main reasons why people choose to stay at a hotel. Despite the large amounts of money that I and other customers pay to stay at places like this, it seems like more and more restrictions are being placed. The refrigerator now has a timer on it that will not allow it to stay on for more than 2 hours. This pretty much forces anyone that stays here to have to purchase food and beverages for every meal because anything you put in the refrigerator is likely to go bad overnight. My biggest issue with my stay is the temperature in the room and how the night staff handled a request for reasonable accommodation due to disability. As someone that suffers from an autoimmune disease that causes extreme discomfort in high temperatures, I am very disappointed. Every year it seems like hotels increase the minimum temperature that patrons can change the thermostat to. For people like me, this makes it difficult, if not completely impossible, to be comfortable at night. This then makes driving in the morning a dangerous game of trying not to be sleepy behind the wheel due to lack of sleep. Luckily, there are hotels that are willing to make temporary adjustments to the room temperature from their main control system. This was not one of them. I approached the staff at the front desk last night letting them know my situation and asked if they could do that tonight so that my family and I could be comfortable. Without even attempting to understand my request, I was dismissed and they instead asked if I had ice packs I could use. There are multiple reasons why that was a problem. Like I stated earlier in this post, the refrigerator does not stay on. If I had brought ice packs, they would have melted. It also does not make sense to suggest that I sleep with ice packs when that is dangerous and could lead to frostbite if I did manage to fall asleep with them on. The staff insisted that there was nothing that they could do without even putting in any effort to check. For some, 68 degrees may be fine, but, for many others, it is way too hot and extremely unfair for those with disabilities. To make matters worse, I am pretty sure they use a motion sensor that turns the air conditioner off at night since nobody is moving around. This caused the temperature to get as high as 73 degrees and I had to move around just to get it to turn back on. This is a multibillion dollar corporation. I understand that the goal is to minimize energy waste and cut cost, but where do you draw the line? I'm very disappointed in this location and will likely not be staying here due to their increasing restrictions and inability to make simple accommodations. Thank you to anyone that took the time to read this all the way through. If 68 degrees is also an uncomfortable temperature for you, I would suggest that you look for another location unless you do not plan on sleeping while...
Read moreUnfortunately, this hotel isn't even worthy of a 1-star review (which I would give zero stars if this were an option), and the hotel unequivocally fails to live up to Marriott standards.
We arrived at the hotel at 11pm on Thursday evening (which was 7 hours after the prescribed 4pm check-in time) after a long day of driving only to be told that there were no clean rooms available due to a late check out by a college football team. Frankly, I'm mystified by this "late college football team check out" excuse given that Marriott check-out is at 11am/noon, and even a delayed check out until 1pm/2pm would have given the staff NINE HOURS to get the rooms cleaned and ready for the next guest arrivals. We were joined by no less than 30 other guests waiting in the lobby for clean rooms (and note that we all had confirmed reservations). When we finally gained access to our room at 1am, only a mere 2 hours after we had arrived for check-in, we arrived to a dirty room with hairs in the bathroom shower, an unclean toilet seat and leftover food in the mini fridge.
We were told that we would be contacted by the hotel's General Manager later that day (as we were now into the early hours of Friday morning) to discuss the check-in debacle and how the hotel would compensate us. It is now 10pm on Saturday, and we have not yet heard from any hotel management despite leaving several messages with the direct and mobile contact numbers for the General Manager (Schack Von Rumohr) and Rooms Manager (Auxilla Hativagone-Miller). This clearly demonstrates the hotel's inattentiveness and a general lack of care for its patrons.
To add insult to injury, we were forced to change rooms just 10 hours into our stay due to a malfunctioning shower in our original, unclean room (which the hotel staff was aware of and yet failed to disclose to us open our arrival and check-in -- we only found out about the known issue after we called to report it). In our new room, we're currently experiencing a smoke issue (visible haze and potent smell) due to a fire pit operating on the hotel's outside terrace, which is in place for a wedding. In all of my time staying at Marriotts and other hotels, I have NEVER experienced smoke in a room due to an outdoor fire pit. This is a clear health and safety hazard, and when we raised this issue with the front desk and engineering teams, we were simply told we would have to "deal with it" until the wedding is over. We're really excited to sit in a smoke-filled room for the next several hours and have all of our personal items smell like a fire pit.
Unacceptable, disappointing, appalling -- these adjectives don't even begin to describe our stay. In sum, we will NEVER stay at this hotel again. It is not up to Marriott standards (especially as this hotel is an Autograph Collection hotel and billed as a 4-star hotel) and should not bear the Marriott name. We look forward to seeing what additional surprises await us in the remaining 36 hours of our stay, and perhaps by the time we leave we'll have heard from...
Read moreThis was a horrible hotel stay. I have not had a worse experience with a hotel ever and based on this experience, if nothing is done retroactively to compensate us for the lack of what we paid for, then I am likely to stay away from all marriott hotels in the future. I have never attempted to get something refunded or compensated for a hotel stay so this is definitely a first. We were supposed to check in on Friday 12/10 at 4pm. I even had emails saying to check in early, which I attempted to do through the Bonvoy app on my phone, which appeared to work and said my mobile key was being prepared. So I arrived to the hotel a little bit early, tried to check in and was told my room wasn't ready and that they would call me when it was ready. So I waited until 4pm....never got a call, so I went to the front desk to check in. Again I was told my room wasn't ready and that they would call me when it was ready. I was trying to be patient and just said "okay" and continued to wait. Another hour went by and no phone call, so I again went to the front desk, now a little after 5pm, and asked if my room was ready. Now for the 3rd time I am again told that it is not ready and that they will call me when it is ready. I now am at a point where if I don't get my room shortly I will not be able to get ready appropriately for the event and occasion I am staying there for, so I ask how much longer and am told 1-1.5 hours and that they will call me. I said I need it ASAP and before that time frame because I have things I need to do. They say they will call me. Well, 1.5 hours go by and I have no call and no room STILL. In the meantime I have had to make my way to the event and occasion I am there for without being able to prepare and get ready for it correctly. By the time I return later that night at almost 10pm I have still NEVER received a call so I don't even know if my room is ready or even if I have one. I go to the front desk and they finally have a room ready for me. At that time I tell them I have another reservation for the next night and try to make sure they are aware and can merge the 2 reservations so I don't have to check out and then back in and move rooms. The front desk attendant looks it up and finds it and says all will be good and there is nothing else for me to do. The next morning I leave and come back after 12 noon. When I return to my room my key no longer works and I have to go back down to the front desk to get new keys made and let back...
