The Raton Pass Motor Inn is a very charming motel with a true mid-century atmosphere! The location of this adorable motel is very good for getting around town and in a quiet location. If you are looking for retro charm this little motel is overflowing with it!|This adorable retro motel did not disappoint in any way! My room was super, super clean (can't stress that enough) and so comfortable. The main area of the room is huge! The bed was incredible, so comfortable, which was very important since I was there to run the Charcoal Burner Half Marathon. The choice of TV options was phenomenal to unwind from the day exploring in a super comfy bed! The best I have had!|The rooms all have a different theme. My room was the Sombrero Room which was decorated in true vintage Spanish-Mexican mid-century décor! I love the whole layout of the room and all the attention to detail the owners put into it from the themed items like Sombrero's on the wall and other Spanish-Mexican décor from mid-century style placed thoughtfully around the room. The location of the lighting and furniture was perfect providing atmosphere and convenience all in one. Also the books that were so thoughtfully placed in the room was a nice treat. |The motel office itself is just a gem! It is the motel's original café converted and is like walking into a museum, or antique shop, with so many cool retro-items to grab your attention with fascination! |The breakfast area is in the motel office area which adds to such an unique eating experience. You sit in the middle of the huge front office space at this long beautiful wood table covered with a Spanish-Mexican style cloth to have breakfast almost like a B&B style. Very warm and welcoming atmosphere! The food was great too-lots of choice for breakfast! |The best part of the whole experience was the owners! They are a lovely couple who are incredibly thoughtful, courteous and helpful. They go out of their way to provide service to their guests, especially in terms of giving information about the local sights and directions to them. |You can tell the owners love their motel and take great pride in it. This shows in every aspect of the motel experience! Out of all the hotels and motels I have stayed at, this is by far one of the best experiences I have had! This is a true gem and I am so glad that I took the advice to stay in this adorable motel! So much more character than a...
Read moreMy stay at Raton Pass Motor Inn late in the spring of 2022 was a wonderful experience. I stayed in the All-American room late last May, and I was pleasantly surprised by the decor's charming attention to detail. Walking into the room (really three rooms including the restroom) is a beautifully arranged and decorated early 1960s retro fashion living room complete with an old alarm clock, rotary phone, picture tube TV, and bi-level end tables surrounding a retro sofa. In the corner on the same wall as the TV resta a beautiful writing desk, beyond that the bathroom, a small hallway to the right opening to the kitchen/dining/bedroom area. The kitchen is small but well-stocked with utensils, dishes, pots and pans, and appliances, including a retro avocado-green blender. The bed was king sized, and at it's foot was an LCD TV with streaming services. Customer service was excellent with willing conversation about the decor. It may have been updated since my stay there, and I would love to go back just to see how, and even if not to view some of the other rooms. Nearby is Lake Maloya located in Sugarite Canyon State Park located right at the Colorado border to the east of interstate 25. The park is a beautiful place to hike and explore, especially in the late spring and late summer, which I was able to do as bookends to my lengthy trip through the western...
Read moreI can’t speak highly enough of the Raton Pass Motor Inn! I live in the Colfax County area (Cimarron) but for a number of reasons I needed a place to spend the night before my morning Amtrak train departed. I was just looking for an affordable place within walking distance of the station but was met with so much more than a room for the night.
From the moment I arrived Michael was incredibly kind and welcoming - spending extra time to make sure everything was ready and working properly in the room and sharing all the info I needed for my stay.
I was in lucky Room 13 and as a fan of historic horror movies it was a treat! Loved the themed decor and boy was it clean! Talk about water pressure too - I was about blown away (in a good way)! They even had some DVDs of the movies featured in the room and I enjoyed the evening watching “Wasp Woman” and “Creature from the Black Lagoon”.
The room was dark, quiet, and warm and breakfast the next morning was simple but hit the spot. Michael was even so kind as to give me a ride to the station in the morning.
Although it’s not often that I need a place to stay in Raton as a relative local, I will definitely be back if I do! In the meantime, I will definitely spread the word that you can’t go wrong with...
