I can't say enough about the new ownership at Knudson Cove Marina. I've been coming to Knudson Cove for about 5 years now and its always been a quick easy trip. This time the trip started out a disaster. The room we booked had some issues that prevented us from being able to stay. Lets just say we were the first ones to stay in that suite this year and it just wasn't quite ready. So we went back down to the marina and let them know what was going and told them we needed a solution. So they put us upstairs in a different and bigger suite. We were happy with that and everything was fine until the next day when we had a knock on our door and tell us that we needed to move out because they made a mistake and had this room booked and the people were sitting at the marina waiting to move in. We were all stuck in a hard spot at that time and didn't feel like we should have to move again, but at the same time we didn't want to mess up anyone else's trip. I understand things like this happen from time to time and its just a bad situation. The owner came over and did absolutely everything possible to make us happy with the tools he had available. He wound up refunding us for our stay and booking us 2 rooms at another hotel at his expense and still let us have access to the original room so we could keep all our gear and food for the week. I know this sound like "that's what he should do" but the truth is most people don't. This is not from us throwing a fit or causing a scene to get what we want. They did it because they felt bad and wanted us to enjoy our time in Alaska. This is a great place to stay and we will be coming back for years to come. Thank you again Matt for saving our trip, we all appreciate everything...

My brother and I recently (July 4, 2023) did a salmon fishing excursion in Ketchikan, booked through Princess Cruises, and it was absolutely incredible! We took a bus to Knudson Cove Marina, and everyone was assigned a boat, which each took 4-6 people. The bathrooms at the marina were nice and clean, and there was a big shop that we enjoyed shopping in after our fishing trip. Our boat, Big Fish, was very nice, completely covered, and had a place to sit and a bathroom. There were crackers and yummy salmon spread to snack on, and beverages available. The scenery alone was worth the trip as we saw a nearby whale a couple of times and salmon skipping along the top of the water. Captain Doug was knowledgeable and super friendly, and he had the lines in the water within minutes of leaving the marina. The fish were biting so fast we frequently had two people reeling in fish at a time. We did catch some King Salmon, but they had to be released as they weren’t legal size. We did keep Pink salmon and Keta salmon, though. We picked one of the smaller pink salmon and had it sent back to the ship, where the main dining room chef cooked it up for our dinner that night. The salmon was so fresh and delicious! We ended up having the other 10 salmon processed by the marina and shipped home. We were able to pick the day for it to be delivered so that it would be after we got back. We ended up getting around 40 lbs of fresh Alaskan salmon sent home. I highly recommend fishing with Captain Doug on Big Fish and Knudson Cove Marina / Fish processing to anyone looking for a fun and rewarding experience. Can't wait to go...

We went fishing with Captain Marty on June 18th, 2022. Our "3.5 to 4 hours" of fishing was closer to 2.5 hours. We caught 2 salmon, but only one was legal size which is OK, I would be very happy if this was the whole story. The boat barely cranked over when we headed out... That should have been a warning... When it was time to head back to the docks to get our fish processed, the boat "Lucielle" WOULD NOT START. Captain Marty messed with the batteries some and realized we didn't even have enough juice to run the radio. He didn't have a jump starter and had to call back to the marina on his cell phone, but the call was answered by the answering machine! He was finally able to call the captain of another boat that came to take us back to the docks. I had filled out the paperwork to get our fish processed including 2 email addresses, credit card info, phone number, address, etc. and as I climbed onto the other boat, I asked Captain Marty if he would take care of getting my fish to the processor. He assured me he would and I even slipped him a little cash as a thank you. We never got the fish, multiple phone calls just went to the answering machine and no one ever returned my calls.

There were also so many fishing boats out on the water, it was amazing we didn't tangle lines with anyone else.

I'm giving 2 stars because it was fun to catch the fish and the scenery was great. But for the $1,590 the 6 of us paid, we should have at least had a boat that would get us back...

The people, both native Alaskans and seasonal, are absolutely some of the most friendly people on the planet. They don't just want you to enjoy your experience, but they want to share what they love about Alaska with everyone with whom they come in contact. The Wife and I went salmon fishing with Captain Rusty Boatright (yes, a boat captain named Boatright), and we had a great time. We were only out for a few hours, and if you've ever been fishing...well, you know how that can go. A few of us caught some King Salmon, and I'm sure we all had a great time. We noticed that when we saw the North Pacific Humback Whales that the fish would bite. BUT......we saw a pod of Orcas and THAT was way more impressive in my mind and experience than anything else. Had a great time fishing, but a few hours just isn't long enough. So, here's our suggestion: if you go fishing for King Salmon, go on or after 15 June. Why? It's catch and release before, and Knudson Cove is the King Salmon capital of the world. Go on an all day excursion. Get them shipped to your home. Cook, and enjoy. Oh, and The Wife said for all you ladies to request a yacht service so you can stay inside and watch TV and stay warm and something about YOLO. But, I don't know.
