Hidden gem, great hosts, very well maintained, super close (30 mins) to Telluride, Highly recommend. We took a chance with Rico vs. any place in Ouray or Ridgway & we were not disappointed. The Mine Shaft Inn is a piece of the town’s history. The place is really well maintained & the photos do not do it justice. Great hosts & fresh breakfast served at a time of your choice. The town is super peaceful, safe & a literally a handful of stores around: misc groceries, liquor and right next to the local post office in case you fall in love with the town & wish to send a postcard to yourself or a loved one. We loved it & given the proximity to Telluride, can’t see why this place isn’t more popular. Besides there’s a couple of natural hot springs in the town that can accommodate one family at a time, so line up early. One of them is within an area marked private property, but the inn hosts assured us that wouldn’t be a problem. In any case, thumbs up to Rico Mine Shaft Inn - highly recommend this place, couples with pets or families alike!! Cheers & Happy 2021!...
Read moreI couldn't agree more with the previous reviews. Both Andrew and Jorden were absolutely amazing hosts and operators of this little gem of a B&B. I showed up late after a 17hour drive and Andrew was not only nice enough to meet me there but also gave me his last Coors light. I owe you one! The building itself was straight out of the wild west and still maintained that charm. The rooms were spotless and very comfortable albeit small but in no way lacking in comfort and the prices were ridiculously affordable. There are 3 large sitting areas and a full kitchen to use at any time. If you're looking for a cheap room with cable and a tv (you know who you are) then I'm sure there's a soulless Motel 6 in Telluride or Cortez. However, if you want a super cozy room in a really cool little town then this is it. And as an added bonus there's the complimentary breakfast. Fresh homemade frittata, coffee, fresh fruit, homemade...
Read moreThrough Airbnb I had booked a room for 2 nights down the street from Rico Mine Shaft Inn. But, there was an Airbnb glitch and the room I booked wasn't supposed to be available due to COVID-19 social distancing rules. The gal in charge of that room didn't leave me hanging with nowhere to stay and contacted her friends at The Mine Shaft Inn and, as fate would have it (because they are sold out for weeks), there was a cancelation and I was able to stay there. All I can say is that "everything happens for a reason" and my room at The Mine Shaft Inn was lovely AND had a private bathroom, which the Airbnb prior booking did not have. Not only is the inn a LOVELY place from the 1880s, but the service and hospitality was top notch. I HIGHLY recommend this inn/hotel. It'll save you $$$ compared to places in Telluride, only 28 miles away. I'm grateful that I was able to be accommodated and thrilled I discovered this...
