If it wasn't so pretty I would have more regrets having my wedding here. Most of my issues lied with Heather one of the event coordinators there. She should definitely not be customer facing, but I also heard the way she spoke to staff there as well which was also unsettling. We were having a beach wedding at 4 and it was raining upon our check in time to our cabin at 1pm (which we paid for an early check in time in advance and emailed them that we were gonna be there for 1) Heather had no clue we were coming for 1 and was very flustered to find Max who was helpful at times but in the end he just seemed like a yes man. But in the time of us waiting for our cabin to be prepped Heather just looked out the window and kept commenting on the rain and that we should consider moving it inside. I remember having to tell her numerous times that the rain was ending at 3 and we are 100% having it there. Really seemed like they didn't want to towel off the chairs we set up the night prior (which there cabin guests were kind enough to move all around on us) finally get to the cabin that all the guys are getting ready at. It's 100 degrees there's ants everywhere no a/c no screens in windows to circulate airflow without letting an army of mosquitoes in. Giant stains on the couch and enough spiders that I could start a army (This is the cabin me and my wife are supposed to stay in after the wedding as well) we also spend over $1000 on flowers that we set up the night before. During the walk through we were told the play barn a/c would be on for the flowers so they don't die. We mention it to Heather just to confirm it and she starts throwing a fit that it absolutely cannot be left on and she has no idea what to tell us. They eventually come to a resolution(after alot of arguing that the flowers cost more than the A/C for the night) they are gonna charge us an extra 130 for a night of running the A/C🤣 we agree and when we go there in the morning it was 1000 degrees and the flowers were wilting. The biggest quam with the day was that neither event coordinator was anywhere to be seen to direct people on where the ceremony is being held, how to get there, nothing. Which resulted in alot of confusion and our ceremony starting late which ran everything else back as well. Then everyone was standing around confused after the ceremony as well and Max just drives to the beach gives out a plate of food and drives off. I would of thought he was just a waiter if I didn't know he was our coordinator. Our DJ saved the rest of the night we just had to tell her when to announce things. But the coordinators were no where to be found for the cake cutting. We needed plates silverware a platter for the top etc.Which resulted in us taking all our guests from outside in to the hot playbarn where everybody had to just stare at us for 15 while somebody found them. Why give them a schedule if they don't look at it. Why be a coordinator if your not gonna coordinate? Also was told when I asked if we could get water brought to our cabin for the night they were all out. WHAT! 40 mins go by and I'm handed a warm water the was just retrieved from next to an oven or something. Only 4 warm water bottles instead of bringing them to the cabin. We go the the cabin to stay the night after the wedding is over and it is so infested with bugs spiders and ants and so hot the we drove home at 2am just so we could get a good night of sleep. All in all the place is charging as much as it can and putting in absolute bare minimum. Maybe take the thousands of dollars ya charge and put it back into the buisness you have going before expanding on to new ventures. If you do decide to have your wedding here. Just don't let Heather be involved in anything(the only time she was easy to get a hold of was when she wanted our money) and don't take Max's word as fact. He's a man of many promises and a...
Read moreUpdate Nov 2023: Woodbound Inn, in northern Rindge NH, is our favorite country inn, with pleasant accommodations in the Main Inn and in the Edgewood long house, and with seasonal rustic cabins (that we havent stayed in) down at the lake, all within a short pretty drive from well-travelled state roads. The restaurant serves flavorful well-plated dishes worthy of big-city dining, a short American breakfast menu for guests, and drinks in the cozy well-supplied bar and lounge. You’ll find welcoming owners, hosts, and staff, and of course nice guests :-)
We visit relatives in a nearby town occasionally, and this inn is a local treasure. On this visit, we stayed in the main house in a simply-appointed room with wooded views on the second floor, a flight of steps up from the bright lobby, sitting rooms, lounge, ample restaurant, expansive open deck, and small screened-in porch.
We arrived late in the evening on this country lane, and we found the peaceful haven that we love, as the friendly owners took time to welcome us while they were busily putting finishing touches on lovely preparations for one of their always sold-out holiday dining events. On this holiday, breakfast for guests was continental, with freshly made muffins and pastries. Other mornings, there was a short menu of tasty made-to-order breakfasts. We enjoyed the eggs benedict, over-easy and poached eggs, a cheddar omelet, potatoes, english muffins, and thick whole-wheat and white toast that tastes homemade. They have a nice technique for thin perfectly-crispy bacon :-)
In between peaceful strolls along the inn’s wooded pathways down towards the lake, we drove the few minutes to the eclectic shops and cafes of Peterborough, enjoyed a performance by an excellent musician along with well-crafted beers at a nearby brewery, and even took in our relatives’ favorite friendly local bar, with chili dogs on grilled buns, and free picklebacks with our Jameson shots!
We met a number of the inn’s staff and managers during our stay, and each one was welcoming, while always actively attending to all the needs of the inn and their guests.
We love this lovingly-created refreshingly-peaceful country inn.
Earlier review Apr 2022: (edited for length) Lovely restaurant, amazing food, quaint inn and lakefront cabins. I took a quaint and perfectly clean and comfortable pet-friendly room. Wooded dog-walk paths.
The real attractions are the restaurant and small bar, and outdoor event space! The quick bartender knows her drinks, including New-England-sourced beer on tap, and a top-shelf mezcal. Serving recommendation were spot-on. They have a nice array of beers on tap, wines, ports, gins, and a full bar at reasonable prices. We shared amazing appetizers and salads, including tender flavorful juicy lamb sliders, perfectly seared scallops wrapped in crispy bacon, and a salad of fresh micro greens topped with seared goat cheese. Each item was a creative sensation, prepared with care. The dinner prices were rather expensive for everyday dining, but i must say the quality here rivals "big city" fare, and in that regard the prices are low for an experience worth traveling to find! I would gladly bring friends, family, and business contacts here to impress, and for...
Read moreWe just celebrated our wedding here. Max was amazing through the whole planning process. He’s a very busy man but he was great at getting back with emails just be patient; there is only one of him. He made sure everything was perfect and was around the day before the wedding and the day of. I didn’t stress about a thing! The grounds are so well kept. The inn is amazing. If you’re looking for a Marriott hotel experience with up to date features this is not the place. This place is historic and so homey. We stayed in the Edgewood building and our room was huge! It was perfect for the bridal party to get together to get hair and makeup done. We used it as our bridal suite since there is not on on the grounds. ||The beach was cleaned up for our ceremony and it was gorgeous. I suggest if you are getting married there to bring your own “wedding this way signs” to make it an easy walk for your guests. For the reception we got BBQ buffet and omg, OUT OF THIS WORLD. Also the appetizers were to die for during cocktail out. We ended up spending extra and getting the curtains and lights draped on the ceiling and walls, this made the room look magical especially with the DJ up lighting. We had 13 tables which allowed so much room for dancing which was needed for our wedding. We had 130 guests invited and maybe 120-125 showed, so it was a good turn out.||We had some guests stay at the cabin and my god! I was expecting these hole in the wall creepy cabins… NOPE they were amazing! When we celebrate our one year anniversary we will be staying in one of the cabins right in the beach. They were that nice! The complementary breakfast in the morning that comes with the room, Omg blew hotel continentals breakfast out do the water! They had delicious scrambled eggs, fresh bacon, sausage, French toast/ pancakes… I could go one! Sooo delicious . The staff there was also great! Only tiny complaint was the bartender during the wedding, I had several guests says she was not the nicest, but I will say she was SOLO and appeared very overwhelmed especially because I have a lot of friends and family that like cocktails. But honestly I would’ve never noticed if it was brought to my attention, again I just felt bad because she was a solid bartender for 130ish people. |Also what I loved about this place was it didn’t cost an arm and leg. The hall rental and food, came under 14,000! This up in northern NH would cost over 20 grand! But I loooved the historical look and when we did our wedding photographs we had so many spots to take photographs especially against the red barn!||Max & Woodbound, thank you so much for creating such a...
