We've been to dozens of KOA's in 8 western states, so far this is the nicest. Pulled in for 3 days to to some housekeeping. Laundry, propane, showers, dump, grocery shopping. We also wanted to do some site seeing and there were no state parks within driving distance. Friendly office staff. Cute store, things are overpriced but that is to be expected. When I was walking up with my tank to get propane an employee spotted me and radioed ahead and someone met me there and did a fast fill up. Then they offered to drive my tank back to my site for me. Laundry room had 8 washers, all but 1 working. Employee wheeled it outside to work on it so he wasn't in the way. Just $2 for wash and $1.50 for dry, and they work great. Next to the laundry room is a well appointed lounge that looks like you are in a hotel lobby. It's got a little library and a free bin. They have a huge hall with tables where they've got activities, puzzles, coloring stuff for kids, games. In the evening they have open a cafe next to the hall where they sell pizza, wings, chicken nuggets, and quesadilla's. I'm sure it's mostly freezer food that gets heated up or deep fried. But it's cheap. They also are doing breakfast with bacon, eggs, bagel sandwiches, and pancakes. And you can eat inside the hall. They would probably sell more food if they promoted this more, like handing people a menu with their hours. There is nothing posted on the building unless/until they are open. Pool looks good but too cold this time of year for swimming. Nice playground. There is a little lake. And there is a small river that runs along the edge of the property with a walking/biking path and green belt. Bathrooms are heated and clean, well appointed with nice tile. Showers get hot, have both doors and curtains and plenty of hooks and a bench. The nicest thing about my shower was the 80's music playing on the speakers. The only thing that would have made my shower even better would have been Disco Music! The park is in a semi-industrial area, there is an apartment complex and a tanker truck yard. There is a gate and a code needed for after hours access, but no security. The gate only keeps cars out at night as the entire side and back of the park have no fencing and are just open to the river walk. Even more troubling when just a few months ago there were two bodies found on that trail just a few minutes from the KOA. And strangely this is the first time where we've been at a KOA and did not have FHU. The place otherwise seems well run and well taken care of. They are building a large maintenance building over by the dog run. This corner of the property is a semi-wooded area with lots of grass, looks like a city park. Remember it is a KOA so you are only 10 feet from your neighbors, no privacy. We camped at San Antonio / Alamo KOA Holiday in a...
Read moreIf you’re planning a visit to San Antonio and want to be near the downtown action while still enjoying peace and greenery, Alamo KOA is the spot. Tucked behind an industrial corridor, this campground feels like a hidden retreat, lush, tree-filled, and surrounded by nature. A paved walking and biking trail runs along the property’s edge, stretching for seven miles. Perfect for runners, walkers, or anyone wanting to move after a long day on the road.
We rolled in on a Friday with our 36-foot Super C RV and Jeep in tow. Though they initially gave us two spots, our rig and tow vehicle would have easily fit in one. Regardless, the welcome was warm and the service professional. The gentleman at the desk, who we later found out has a hotel management background and full-times between seasonal gigs, was helpful, patient, and clearly proud of the place. He is the kind of staff member that elevates a stay from good to great.
The park itself is immaculate. Truly one of the best-maintained we’ve stayed at, with staff regularly mowing and keeping everything tidy. There is a store, a laundry room, and a small restaurant serving pizza, wings, egg tacos, and pancakes. Movie nights and bingo offer family-friendly fun. There is a pond for fishing, a pool for relaxing, and even pedal car and bike rentals for some old-fashioned campground charm.
The weekends see a flurry of activity, but by Sunday night the place settles into a tranquil rhythm. We appreciated the quiet, with just the occasional distant train rolling by to remind us we were still near a city. On Monday, we chatted with a few of the long-timers and staff, all friendly and welcoming.
Someone had asked us on Facebook whether the campground was dusty, based on a past review they had seen. We can confidently say not at all. In fact, with recent rains, the grounds were lush and green. Dust in Texas is just a reality during dry spells, but this spot is well-shielded and far from barren or exposed.
Another bonus, they accept package deliveries and have a secure package room available when needed.
In short, we would not hesitate to stay again. Peaceful, convenient, and managed with care, Alamo KOA made our San Antonio stop comfortable and easy.

Read more1/2025 Our first time here was in November of 2017, and the park was great then. We have stayed here each time we've come to San Antonio. We love the seemingly never-ending activities that they planned and the staff had just been wonderful. We have never had a anything other than positive encounters with everyone from the grounds crews to the office staff. The cafe on site prepares and serves very reasonably priced food for breakfast and dinner. The location couldn't be better. You're right in the middle several major interstate interchanges, so you're a short drive or reasonable Uber ride, away from everything in San Antonio but fat enough away not to hear the noise or be caught up in all of the hustle bustle. If you prefer, there's a bus stop right across from the entrance. It's clean, quiet, secure, and convenient to everything. We have yet to go into the bathhouses, but the office, pavilion, laundry facilities, and grounds are very well kept. We have no reason to consider staying anywhere else.
2/2024 This is a very nice park. Most have concrete/brick patios with gravel/grass sites. The hookups were conveniently located and standard connections. There are plenty of trees for shade and grass for pets. There is a nice laundry facility, camp store, tv lounge, activity hall, playground, clean bathhouses (we don't use), and a cafe. We have stayed here before and will certainly be back. The San Antonio Rodeo and Stock Show was going on the last weekend of our stay and was only about a 15-minute walk. Next time we're here, we hope to catch a Spurs game.
Tips: Get a San Antonio City Pass! There's a wonderful paved path that runs right by the campground, and it's a great place to walk the dogs or take a run. The Rio Riverwalk Boat Tour is a nice way way to see much of the Riverwalk. Mi Tierra is a fantastic Mexican restaurant in San Antonio and is only about a 15-minute drive. The Rio Riverwalk Boat tour is a short walk from there, about 1.2 miles. Chart House Restaurant is a very nice restaurant at the top of the Tower of the America's, and it rotates so you can enjoy a great dinner with an aerial view of the entire city and more. I think we made about 2 full rotations...
