Definitely not worth the price or the location. Also, the manager Christian is not happy in his role and should not be allowed to communicate with customers or team members. I highly recommend some management and politeness training.
Location: The location is not that great. It is close to the freeway but that area can be a little bit of a puzzle for people who are not a custom to the roads and the traffic signals. The street is a pretty busy street and does not allow for a left turn into the hotel unless you’d like to cross over yellow lines. Aside from the street, access and overall access, it is very near the flight path of MCAS Miramar. In fact, the flight path goes directly overhead, and you can hear helicopters and planes all day and night.
Staff: Some people say the staff is nice, but the only nice person I met was Brent who is working the night shift. Other than that, I don’t agree that the staff is nice. On the second day of my stay, I saw the cleaning crew leaving for the day and I complimented them and told them that they did a great job. They just laughed at me and ignored me. I didn’t think that was a very positive interaction for a hotel guest when I was just giving them a complement and wishing them a happy holiday.
The Room: I was extremely unimpressed with the room, especially for the price. I’m not sure if they have a lot of fake reviews or if they give people bonuses for a positive review, however, the hotel was clearly in need of renovations. The room itself feels like it’s from the 80s with the popcorn ceiling and the yellow walls. The carpet is dingy and needs to be replaced. There was a cigarette burn in my shower curtain and the floor of the shower or should I say the bathtub looked like it hadn’t been clean for quite some time. It’s that same dirty grungy feeling if you don’t wash or clean your shower for a couple of months. I am a clean person, and I was not very impressed with the cleanliness of the room. The bed was not made properly, the sheets were twisted, and I saw several Silverfish bugs inside the room. The water pressure was extremely weak and regardless whether it’s the sink or the shower, hot water takes about one minute and 45 seconds to two minutes to actually reach the faucet. The towels were very rough and aged.
The parking: Yes, they actually charge for parking. The hotel itself is not located in any kind of convention or shopping mall area. Therefore, I don’t see a need for parking fees. It’s just another way for the hotel to steal money out of peoples pocket. There was no security guard watching the parking lot at all. They were an abundant amount of parking spaces. The worst part is that your car will get damage while parked in this parking lot. They have palm trees and on the palm trees are seed pods that are about the size of a quarter and they fall off and hit your car and caused little dings. I have several dings on my hood specifically from that tree. I’m not sure why they have people pay for parking considering all these factors. The only thing I can think of is yes, they do want to steal money out of peoples pockets for the dumbest things. I do not think this hotel cares about their guests at all or the quality of their working environment.
Christian and staff member: I’m making a separate note specifically in regards to Christian and the associate staff member that was working beside him at the front desk upon check out. She was friendly, although when I shared with her my issues, she apologized and asked if I wanted to speak to a manager. Christian was standing right there the whole time and did not care. I told her it doesn’t seem like management cares at all. Therefore, it was pointless to say anything. Christian didn’t join the conversation and didn’t offer to help and didn’t apologize for any of the issues at all. It’s as if he’s taking zero responsibility for his job and his management or should I say lack of management because the team is dropping the ball. The cleaning crew is definitely not up to par, which is why the room was dirty...
Read moreWe came in from Anaheim, after visiting Disneyland. We were here for one night to continue our Spring Break venture in S.D. before heading back to scorching, hot, Arizona.
I was sitting in the rental, and I heard a female voice asking my hubby if he needed help with unloading our suitcases, and belongings onto the luggage cart. I found out, it was Amber, from the front desk. She was very helpful and pleasant. I thought it was kind of weird at first, but whatever. Great hospitality!
We walked inside, and Amber explained to us that their key card system was down, which meant we could not come and go, without asking someone from the front desk to let us into our room or into the pool and other areas. They also had a lot of people checking in with lots of kids from baseball teams, gymnastics, etc... Which meant it was super, extra, noisy and chaotic! Whatever, it was 'Spring Break' for us too. No big deal!
We went out for dinner, and had to ask someone to let us back into our room, when we got back. It was somewhat awkward, like we were bugging them, even though they were busy; but they were very cordial. Only problem we had was calling the front desk to ask for someone to let us into the pool area, which they said someone would let us in, but no one ever came to let us in.
The next morning my hubby went downstairs for breakfast and juice for our party of 5. Amber comped all of our meals, rather than just two, for all the inconvenience we experienced.
Not only Amber, but her Supervisor, Ms. Dominique and Ms. Jordan also at the front desk, were all responsible for the awesome hospitality we received at this particular Marriott location.
We would definitely return here again! They are all about hospitality, and customer service!! The...
Read moreI called into the Marriott reservation line which the receptionist was more than helpful. With Comic-com being in town, she price-checked rooms all over San Diego for going the extra mile to make sure any applicable discounts would apply. We finally chose Courtyard Marriott in SV. I called in the next day to add my girlfriend to the reservation because I was called into work and she'd be stuck waiting around otherwise. Two days later (day prior to check-in) I called to request an early check-in since I'd be working later than anticipated. Turns out they had no record of me adding my GF to the room, in which I added her again. That was fine, no big deal, we're all human, it was a correctable mistake. The next morning I called in again and inquired if there was a room open for an early check-in. Once again there was no record of my GF on the room... And no room open for our arrival... I was again confirmed her name and information for check-in since I would not be available. At 1:30 I received a call from my GF saying the hotel staff was extremely rude to her and they had no record of her on the room. I had to remove myself from my meeting and sort this issue out. The girl that answered was extremely rude to me and barely helpful. I showed up an hour later to personally check-in where the same woman stood there, non-verbal, starting me down. Tony, the other staff member kindly called me over to assist me while the woman started me down the whole time...AWKWARD... I'm not a confrontational guy, nor do I frequently post reviews, however given these circumstances, I felt it was most appropriate. They say you only get one first impression and in this case, they lost...
