San Luis is great. The owners at the inn live across from the hotel. Friendly locals all over and some beautiful area drives. Not for the big city person. The couple who owned the hotel were sweet, looking to retire. Rooms were clean and though quoted $64 + $6 tax a night were charged $150 for two nights. Bring your own shampoo, soap, TP and coffee. I told them to not bother cleaning the room between nights but for some reason they came in and took away our towels! No one available so had to lay my jeans on the floor so I would not slip getting out of the shower. (I thought I asked for a handicapped room but must have forgotten). They do not answer the phone if the calls come from room phones; use your cell phone. Also note, the front door is locked and must use your key to enter the back at various times. One time it was locked while we were sitting on the benches in front of it! Good place but just some things to help you enjoy your stay. Bring food too as the only place open during our stay a gas station with GREAT breakfast burritos with a place to sit and real nice ladies working there, very friendly. The R&R market which is a much see and reasonable prices considering how remote. It's been in the family for something like 169 years. Friendly folks in this farming area, people loved for you to...
Read moreThis is an ideal place to bunk for the night if you are attempting a Culebra Peak climb. It is about a 20-minute ride to the north gate of the Cielo Vista Ranch. The owner is a friendly, very nice Korean War veteran and made it clear he wanted to sell the place. In terms of the hotel itself, it is a rather cavernous, noisy, nondescript building with creaky floors and thin walls. The rooms are dormitory-like and have the standard two beds, a small television, a very small bathroom lacking amenities, and a sink in the room itself. In my opinion, the rooms were spendy ($75) but worth the convenience if you are a Culebra Peak climber. Be aware that there is no continental breakfast offered. During my stay, there was a box of doughnuts near the front desk and the coffee machine nearby was broken. There are very few amenities in the town of San Luis, except for booze and weed, so make sure you come with your...
Read moreVery pleased, friendly, clean, secure, attentive. Ask in advance for microwave and fridge if you want one. Also extra blankets and pillows upon request. Bring your own soap and shampoo. They don’t advertise breakfast but coffee and rolls, oatmeal available in morning. The town of San Luis is pretty run down but the motel is a great launching place for area, Stations if the Cross amazing and a short walk, the Sand Dunes, lots of 14ers, Colorado Gators, Zapata falls (beautiful) or the South Zapata lake hike(tough!!). Mrs Rios restaraunt next door is excellent and the Family Dollar in town is a mini Walmart/food/everything. Most businesses including historical societies are all closed, sad! Even so motel was a bright spot in...
