Serious Safety Issues – This Hotel Shouldn’t Be Renting Rooms!!
At the end of December 2025, I stayed 4 days at the Radisson Hotel Santa Maria with my husband, and unfortunately, our experience did not meet the high expectations we’ve come to associate with the Radisson brand. We’ve stayed at Radisson hotels in other locations and have always found them to be upscale and well-maintained, but this particular stay was disappointing.
Upon arrival, it was lightly raining, and we immediately noticed the hotel was dealing with water leaks from the roof in the lobby. A section was taped off with a bucket collecting water, which was surprising given the minimal rainfall in the area. Additionally, parts of the hotel were under construction, which we were not made aware of when booking.
We paid extra for a suite, which was likely one of the nicest rooms in the hotel. However, the experience was far from luxurious. The first thing I saw when opening the door was a bug on the floor—not the best first impression, though I understand that bugs happen. The issue persisted, though, as we encountered a spider the next day and another bug crawling in from the next-door room the night after that.
The walls had visible water damage, and mold was growing along the ceiling—a serious concern for air quality and health. Additionally, the couch had a strong, dirty, old smell, making it completely unusable. We had hoped a couple of our grandchildren could stay over and use the pull-out couch, but after experiencing the odor, that was no longer an option.
To make matters worse, the heater in the room was not working, which we only realized in the middle of the night when temperatures dropped. The next day, a maintenance worker brought us a floor heater and apologized, which we appreciated, but this is something that should have been addressed before renting out the room.
Another serious concern was the shower temperature control. I enjoy hot showers, but the water temperature fluctuated dangerously, going from cold to scalding hot with the slightest turn of the knob. This is especially alarming because I believe this was an ADA-accessible room, and someone—especially a child or someone with mobility challenges—could easily get burned. This is a safety issue that needs to be addressed immediately.
While I knew expecting my grandchildren to be able to go swimming was unrealistic due to the cold weather, the pool was supposed to be heated—but it wasn’t, which was still disappointing.
If it hadn’t been the busy holiday week and if we weren’t in town to spend time with family, we would have left and stayed elsewhere. Frankly, I believe this hotel should be shut down and properly renovated before renting out rooms in this condition.
Now, for the positives:
• The housekeeper who cleaned our room once during our stay did an amazing job. I understand they only provide cleaning service every few days, especially during the holiday, so this isn’t a complaint, just an acknowledgment of her effort. I didn’t get her name, but she had a beautiful butterfly tattoo, and she went above and beyond to make sure our room was spotless. Her effort was truly appreciated!
• The bed was comfortable, which was a relief.
• The patio was nice, offering a decent outdoor space.
Overall, while some of the staff were kind and did their best, the poor maintenance, safety concerns, and overall condition of the hotel made this a disappointing experience. I hope the owners and upper management need to take responsibility and make the necessary improvements because this is not the standard I expect from Radisson.
I’m sorry I didn’t take more pictures—I wasn’t really thinking about it at the time since I hadn’t planned on writing a review. But after my experience, I realized the owners and upper management need to take action to make this hotel safer… especially since it carries the name of...
Read moreI stayed at this hotel for a week last week because my condo was having construction on the stairs that lead up to my unit. I also work remotely so I had to work from the hotel all week. The only good part was 2 of the front desk clerks who were very nice I wish I got their names.. but why are the only reason why I gave a star for service. I booked a king suite that online on Priceline it said it had a kitchen with an icon of a stove the kitchen was a sink a microwave and a mini fridge. None of the light switches in the bedroom turned the lights on. The bathroom door was broken so you couldnt close it. The floors were nasty and stained. The room is very outdated. Their website says room service. I called to try to order and they told me they don’t do that but I saw cocktail glasses and a serving tray with a shalt shaker outside some rooms. In the morning I tried to order coffee to be sent up but they said no one’s available to bring it for another hour. The website says premium WiFi and I had to work remotely and the WiFi was horrible. The restaurant says it’s open for lunch daily. It’s closed for lunch. The jacuzzi was not hot and I couldn’t turn on the jets. This place used to be the nicest hotel in orcutt but for it being right next to the airport it is very disappointing. The room I was in was so awkward to bring up the luggage rack I had to move furniture to bring the luggage rack into the room when leaving. The patio was full of bird poop everywhere. The computer desk you had to have the chair very low to even pull the chair in underneath it to sit comfortably. The shower when trying to turn it on you had to turn it just right to get full water pressure. Just very disappointed. I had to call down to talk to a manager about a question and she was just rude and cutting me off and talking to me condescendingly. Then Friday I woke up late and tried to go down to the cafe or whatever it was to just order breakfast to bring back up to my room before work the staff was rude and said it’s buffet only this morning. Nothing is advertised or mentioned on any kind of flyer or whatever inside the room about hotel restaurants and what they do so I didn’t get to eat because they wouldn’t let me order what was listed on the menu behind the cashier. It’s just very poorly managed and ran. Nothing matches what is listed online. Also the smart tv doesn’t allow you to plug in a fire stick but then it has a Netflix app but once you log in and select a movie it says it cannot support your Netflix account. The basic tv probably has like 20 channels to choose from which of course nothing is ever on that’s worth watching. The microwave had a power strip hanging from the microwave to the outlet by the couch so it could reach. The pool is ice cold I thought I remembered the pool being heated a long time ago. I had to walk across the courtyard to get ice so there wasn’t an ice machine on each side of the hotel for easy access for the other side you were on. The dog run area for pets to go to the bathroom never had any bags which I always had bags but one time I forgot to refill my leash pocket baggy thing and my son had to go ask the front desk for bags. Which it looks like people don’t do there was dog poop everywhere. Somewhere I read it says for longer stays the room needs to be serviced every two days. No house keeping ever came to check on my room to see if I needed anything. I feel for the amount of money for the room it wasn’t worth the room I received. I didn’t even want to walk on the carpet without socks because it was so stained. The ac didn’t get cold the heater worked but the ac didn’t really no matter how cold I tried to make it. I would not recommend this hotel pay the extra like $40 to stay at the Holiday inn their hotel suites are way nice full kitchen with a full fridge lots of room and very clean. The king corner suite at this hotel...
