Amboy has very few Motels and Hotels. I believe there are a total of five within the area or so. For the age of the place, it's in decent condition. NO coffee or machines in any rooms. We stayed two nights on the second floor in room 244. The TV and WiFi did work well. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Water pressure (or the shower head itself) were awful. Hardly enough water came out to get the soap off. Ice buckets were in the rooms, but could not locate any ice machines no matter how long we looked. We did use the huge truck wash across the street for our 30 foot Rig. That was very helpful and only $55. Motel does offer ample parking for big rigs and RV's in the very front. The thing we despised the most about Amboy and New Jersey in general was the terrible no left turn laws. I have traveled the world for over two decades and NEVER seen anything the resembles the traffic laws of this state. This motel is way overpriced for what they offer. Around $90 to $100 gets you a basic room with no real amenities to speak of. Walls are very thin and noise can be heard from neighbors easily. We normally pay about $70 per night for the exact same thing everywhere else in the USA with several extras such as a simple breakfast, pool, gym, coffee etc. The only reason I'm giving four stars is there are no other options in this area and we...
Read moreDecent enough for the price. I stayed weekly in a number of different rooms.. My Least fave are rooms on first floor near the office. Very noisy least fave of all is 161, it smells terrible, like dirty feet. Plus sink in 161 is a flat bottom with super hi water pressure. Everytime you use it, you can't avoid getting a bath in cold water. Also terrible internet in 161. Another pet peeve I have is the mosquitoes. It's an ongoing battle, but one problem is the French blinds in the bathrooms, all handles I've seen so far are broken. You can't open or close them, it's always in between, So bugs fly in all the time. When the maids clean the room, they always leave the bathroom door open, so when you get back in, all the bugs that might be trapped in the bathroom are flying around your room. Also front desk is very hesitant to call cop when there's a disturbance, which happens semi-frequently. I suppose they have cameras to show the cops, in the aftermath of a bad situation, but they are NOT proactive in keeping unruly residents in check. I stayed in 1 cheap hotel that had the cops there twice a day and often carrying off someone in cuffs. I kind of prefer that to having to hear all the yelling and cussing outside my room. Had better luck with 2nd floor rooms. You're mileage will vary. But worth...
Read moreThis establishment is clean and modernized. It's certainly no 5-star resort, but for the price you pay, they execute very well on your stay. No smells, all mechanicals worked well, and room was sanitized and equipped well for my brief stay
Staff seems indifferent to your presence. They aren't particularly pleasant or helpful, but they'll answer questions if you have them. I was a little concerned by their office, which mirrors the set-up of a gas station in a questionable neighborhood. I arrived late (around 11:30pm), and found the attendant on duty perched on a stool behind multi-layered glass protection. There's just a small slot to exchange items back and forth. Words were sparse, with the attendant speaking in incomplete sentences for requests and communication. Ie ("ID? Room 104, Fill out please", etc.) Still, not a big deal for the price.
The only disappointment from my stay here is that the website indicates there's a continental breakfast in the morning. There isn't, unless you consider tea and coffee breakfast. They have juice machines, but they weren't up and running. Not even a box of dry cereal or a granola bar to be found. I asked the employee on duty where the breakfast was, and got the succinct response of, "Coffee...
