I have stayed at Holiday Inns all over the country and am a proud participant in the IHG Rewards Club.
I booked two rooms on points only (over 50,000 points) and paid cash for an additional room (which was quite expensive).
Let me start with the good. The room was clean and the staff were friendly. The pool was nice, however, could have used more lounge chairs (minor). We had breakfast in the restaurant which was pricey as expected but was good.
Next, the minor but irritating. We tried to Uber into Newport so we could have some drinks and not worry about driving. There were NONE available on a Friday night at 6:00pm. Gave up after an hour and just drove in. Not a big deal but plan accordingly if you're going to stay here.
Last, there was NO soap available in this entire hotel. No soap to wash hands in the room and no soap in the shower. During a pandemic where the single-most important preventative measure is washing your hands?? I complained to the front desk staff who advised me the entire chain had a shortage and could I wash my hands with shampoo?? I ended up going to the store to purchase soap. Also, there was not ONE bottle of water in the entire hotel on a weekend when it was 90-95 degrees the entire weekend. Vending machines on all floors were completely empty, on a weekend. Walked next door to the gas station at 1:00am to get a couple of bottles of water and the gas station had limited hours due to COVID.
To me, no soap and no bottled water is completely unacceptable for what this hotel is charging for rooms. I contacted Holiday Inn directly prior to posting this review (not normally my style) and my complaint was completely ignored - never received a response. So here it is..
Also, I am seriously contemplating switching to a different hotel's rewards programs because of this one incident. Clearly my ongoing, recurring business is not important to Holiday Inn.
Let me close by saying I had no issue with the staff or the service at the hotel. They were very receptive and sympathetic and clearly this is a situation beyond...
Read moreI wish I could say better about this hotel, as it has so much potential, a great location, and the big name brand of Holiday Inn. Booking here was easy, and pictures of the hotel online look very nice. When I got into my room, however, it was quite dirty. The bedding and towels had been changed, but the bathroom had not been wiped down at all-- there was still stool at the bottom of the toilet, and the counter and faucet had grime on them. I wiped down surfaces myself before touching them. Who knows if the rest of the room had been vacuumed or cleaned; the carpet was sticky on my feet. Especially in this time of Covid, this is unnacceptable.
There was also a very loud and rowdy group of people in the room diagonal from me one night. I wasn't able to sleep but a few hours that night, and I had a 12-hour shift at work the next day. The group's behavior is not the hotel's fault, but parties with different noise levels could be separated for optimum guest satisfaction.
Finally, I think I left my home & car keys in the hotel. Since I was in a rental car, I did not notice till I got back to my home state the next day. I called Holiday Inn as soon as I realized my keys were missing to inquire if they had been found there. (The keys are important.) I was told house keeping would look for them then call me back. I called again at the end of the next day and was told the same thing. I don't think it would take any hotel 18 hours to have someone go to a room to look for keys. When I tried to follow up about this again, the front desk staff hung up on me.
This hotel is lacking in critical areas. I hope management and staff will take strides to provide at least basic cleanliness of rooms, as well as more professional and reliable...
Read moreMy husband and I were on a quick weekend getaway and were happy with the hotel and accommodations for the 2 nights we stayed. The hotel website stated under renovations and restaurant closed however to our surprise the restaurant was open and lobby was completed. This was a great surprise. The bed was firm but still comfortable, the bathroom was extremely small and there is NO closet just a open area to hang your clothing, I did not care for this. There was no refrigerator in the room which seems out of the norm for most hotels nowadays. I was disappointed in the housekeeping they did not replenish the toiletries in the bathroom and left the dirty washcloth in the tub where I had left it. I know it is small but sometimes the small things matter. The room did not have any hotel guide or any information on room service. We did go to the restaurant on site for breakfast before we headed for home after we checked out. While at breakfast we overheard another table saying how they received coupons in the room for money off the restaurant we did not get these in our room which doesn't seem right if you offer it to one guest it should be offered to all they stated the coupons were in the folder with the hotel information, well we did not have this in out room so we lost out on the savings. Only suggestion is maybe hand coupons to your guests at check in that would be a nice touch since they are obviously not placed in all guest rooms. Staff at the hotel were all great! I am not sure of his name but the gentleman who served us in the restaurant was so friendly and made our meal very enjoyable. I would recommend this hotel for others wanting to visit the area and we would return...
