The Spearfish/Black Hills KOA is the 124th stop for us and we stayed for 7 nights. Hands down the best customer service we have experienced to date with Cindie at check in and the ice cream social and our site escort. Super pleasant and informative. And their afternoon ice cream social is great (extra cost) with a selection of some different flavors today (caribous caramel, huckleberry, chocolate express and Maui sherbet). All you can eat! Opted for one of their 3 newer patio sites and like not having to deal with gravel and dirt for one week. Nice furniture, fire pit, a nice slab of concrete and a charcoal grill. One of the quickest and accurate leveling for the rig. We were at the very front of the park bordering 2 highway and a road and yes, there was road noise but not bad and quieted down quickly after dark. Also a bit dusty. But very convenient to go anywhere. The laundry room was clean and everything worked which is a real plus when rv’ing. There is a nice path from the rv park connected to a city trail that was well-maintained and used daily for walks with the pups along the Spearfish Creek. Found this to be in the top grouping of KOA parks we have visited. Would definitely stay here again in the future and would rate it a 4.5. Connectivity (2:30 pm): T-Mobile 15.5 down/1.2 up; Verizon 38.0 down/8.67 up; Park WiFi 4.56 down/0.56 up.

Let's be honest about KOA's here. They are reliable and convenient. Great "en-route" stops or a place to stay in an area while you do other things. I don't think I've been in a KOA that was bad, so I've never given less than 3 ⭐🌟⭐, and as you see, this one gets 5, but really I need to turn the dial up to 11 ⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟⭐ for this one! The grounds aren't just immaculate, they are impressively so. Many sites have shade but not all, so if "satellite friendly" is an issue for you, you won't have a problem here. Every site I saw was level with grassy areas adjacent to gravel parking. We stayed with 30amp/full hookups and our site had them laid out right. Cable TV, oh yah best I've seen in any campground yet, and actually DECENT Wi-Fi!! Yes, not really up to streaming (few are) but super easy to connect to (We're using a wireless router in the coach)... none of that Tengo nonsense. The usual pool, laundry bath /shower rooms all up to the same standards. Nice little store, well equipped and the $3 "all-you-can-eat" ice cream socials are terrific with inside and out seating. Lastly is the staff, exceptionally friendly and helpful. Without hesitation here I can say this is a great KOA, so if you're in the area, for a day, or week as we were... check this out!

I will start by saying this is a nice facility. Pool is decent, staff was friendly but, I'm quite upset at the fact that I was placed in a site that faced another site, meaning where our campfire area was their doors were right there. I asked an employee about it and I was told that there was nothing he could do because they were full. That's understandable but, why was I not told about this being the way it was going to be before they were full, perhaps when I booked it wouldve been a much better time. So now it's 10:30 and we have to put the kids to bed without enjoying the fire because the people that I'm sharing this site with have all their lights on. Kind of ruins the ambiance. All of this could've been prevented by making me aware of this when I booked this site. Wasted money for an experience us and the kids enjoyed at every other KOA site except this one. Thank you so much. I enclosed the pictures of the ambiance we had tonight. So glad we drove from Wisconsin to sit like this.

First impression of driving up was the campground was well kept and quite lovely. First impression of the check in experience was less than delightful. Booked 2 camping spot directly on the phone with the manager, Cindy. Awesome experience on the phone. Placed us in spots close to each other and was very friendly. Got confirmation numbers and was waiting for an email. Didn’t receive one so I called and reconfirmed address. Was advised another one sent but still didn’t receive one. Yes, I checked my junk mail. Also I was receiving other KOA emails. Was told no worries as Cindy gave me all the information and I got the confirmation numbers. Checking in with a lovely young lady even amongst all the manager’s family members and staff crowding the front desk area. When advised we were not in the spots originally assigned to us and were farther away from each other. Myself and the respectful young lady were in the midst of trying to work out a solution when the manager, Cindy came in and was rude and snappy with the young lady and wouldn’t let us work out a solution. I was upset for the young lady as she just walked off ( I don’t blame her). I voiced my concern with the managers poor treatment and she apologized in a clipped tone to me. I advised she should be apologizing to the young lady. She said she would and as I left the building she started laughing about the situation. Grounds staff heard of this and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. The pool was amazing as well as the shower and laundry facilities. Dog park was very nice too. We enjoyed watching others fur babies playing. Even got to cuddle with a lovely cat, Star Kitty. We ended up leaving a night sooner as they got the reservation wrong and shorted one site by a night and charged both sites for kids when only one had them. Went to get the shorted night rectified but was told that the site was booked. If they could move our reserved sites around why not move the others? (Rhetorical question) The campground was no where near full to capacity. No offer of trying to fix things. Again this is from another manager (as per name tag) who wore a baseball hat backwards and off to the side. (Professional attire?) so we got refunded the for the duplicate kid charge and left a day early. It was quite clear management didn’t appreciate our patronage. Side note: the refund was applied to the wrong persons card. (Each composite was paid with a different card.) But we rectified that amongst ourselves. We were not interested in dealing with the managers again. The facilities, campground and grounds staff is a 5 out of 5 however the manager’s lack of professionalism is not what I was expecting. KOA please consider some additional customer service training for management. As well as how they treat staff. No one deserves to be treated in that manner. Would definitely come back as the location and campground was fantastic but will wait for the current management to retire or move on.

Responding to KOA/Spearfish response: Thank you for your response. I think we should agree to disagree at this time. Your response given displays the level of professionalism that I am speaking about. I believe we both have different recollections to what happened. The fact that you will also speak unkindly about my parents speaks volumes. I was talking about my experience not theirs. How disappointing, as this could have been another opportunity for you to do better,...
