Sawyer Brewing has a lot going for it. The pizza and beer is absolutely amazing, some of the best I've ever had! The location is really nice too, a beautiful facility right on the creek.
The service, however, wasn't just bad, but almost disrespectful. First off, you'll notice when you walk in that they are putting negative reviewers on blast, saying that it's their fault that the service is poor because they don't work there. Ok, good start, blaming customers for business's problems...we walked out to the patio, the open table was absolutely disgusting with food bits, beer, bugs all over it. Whatever, I can get over that. We asked our server to refill and help clean the dog water bowl that was at the restaurant, and he rudely told us we could go into the bathroom ourselves and wash it ourselves. Alright, I guess we will do that. Then, service was extremely slow, took him forever to take our order, he messed up almost every person's order, then charged several of us incorrectly. Instead of taking steps to even offer us help solving the situation - which wouldn't be needed as we're adults, but just an offer goes a long way - he again rudely told us that we should just figure it out because it was too much work to redo the charges.
-5/5 for service, 5/5 for delicious food and beer and great setting. I would come back to Sawyer and order beer and a food as the quality of those outweighs how poor the service was, and hopefully that's something that can be remedied with some...
Read moreOne of our go-to's in the Spearfish area. Excellent beer and pizza. Lovely scenery with the river out back. Cozy interior. Wait times and service can be hit or miss, but only when the place is at max capacity, which is pretty normal for any bar/restaurant. So, any complaints regarding wait times are from unreasonable whiners. The addition of their Coffee line is most welcome, as are the breakfast pizzas. Bean prices are shad steep, but it's worth it to spoil yourself and buy local every once in a while, IMO. My wife and I like to bring newcomers, and they always leave with a smile. The owner is upbeat, and always friendly. We are very fortunate to have such an awesome establishment in our little...
Read moreFriendly and prompt service (including with table service). Pizza was amazing (better than 90+% of places that only specialize in pizza). Chips and salsa were also outstanding. On the beer, they were a bit more hit and miss, but the Smore Night Stout and Smoldering Scotch were world class. I mean, absolutely amazing. The other beers were lackluster but I can forgive that given the high quality of the stout and scotch ale. Great indoor ambiance and a nice patio overlooking the stream. Parking spots are tight (why did the developer build such a nice spot with such tight...
