Our family with 2 kids visited in Sept 2020 and we were excited about our trip based on all the great reviews. We tent camped at a primitive site. The site was small and we could barely fit our one pick up truck. Our tent pad was unlevel and contained 2 trees, so we weren't even sure if our tent was going to fit. We spoke to another camper and he said his site was unlevel, as well. Though the primitive sites differed in size, most were pretty small and barely semi-private. Our site was in the middle of a loop and we had visible neighbors on 3 sides and had to help direct traffic for all of the cars that got stuck. The campground does not have a loop and it is one-way traffic. The road down to the primitive tent sites was small and many cars came down and couldn't turn around. We had to sight several cars to make 6-point turns to get out. The bathrooms were very clean, BUT they were up a steep hill from the tent sites. The RV sites were at the top and had an easy walk to the bathrooms, which is strange since most probably had their own bathrooms anyway. There was a very nice laundry room that contained a deep kitchen sink for cleaning dishes, which we loved. There was a very small but nice fenced-in dog park. The playground was small- just a wooden Noah's arc ship mostly for preschool aged kids. There were 4 swings and all but the toddler swing were broken and un-useable, which my kids were very disappointed about. The campground also doesn't offer wifi and neither of us had any cell service the whole time we were there. We had to drive 15 minutes away from camp to get a signal so that we could navigate our way to a hiking trail, so just be aware of that and ask directions at the camp office before you leave. It was a beautiful place and the owners were very nice, but the lack of wifi, long trek to the bathroom with the kids, lack of privacy, tight tent quarters, and the uneven tent pad were a negative for us. We would probably not go back because of this. Maybe cabins or RV's are the way to go at...
Read moreThe campground is ideally located if you want to hike in that neighborhood or drive the BM parkway. The elevation makes for an interesting setting.
The facility is well run and has some campground amenities. Trash water and electric are available. I'd love to leave a glowing review...
I stayed 2 nights. The wendsday was great. The area didn't seem empty, but everything was agreeable.
The Thursday night was quite different and disappointing. It was quite loud around my little area. I can understand, groups were unwinding.
The campground has a quiet period starting at 10. No one observed this.
There was a group that was partying near me, with I believe locals or non campers attending.
There was also a group behind me of 4 that talked non stop very loudly from the second they arrived. They also had a projector pointed in the trees. It was cool, but when I camp I like actual stars and lightning bugs. All washed out.
At 1030 I asked the group of now 2 politely to be quiet. They were talking very loudly. Having a bs session, telling each other how much money they made and about firing people. That wasn't the solution. Asked them a bit more firmly, not the solution.
I think the group that was having the party heard all this and decided to support the other loud people. They walked over and loudly started to converse with the 2 men about the projector.
So I walked up to the owners house with my headlamp on. Talked to Marla. Then walked back.
Wow! Projector off, cars leaving the campground and the 2 braggarts behind me were quiet.
Burned the rest of my wood , ate and went to bed.
Not a bad place but you are CLOSE to everyone. My spot #22 had a pavilion on one side and a fence right on the other with the toilet plumbing almost on my spot. Less than 6 feet from my hammock.
You are at the mercy of the quality of your neighbors here. Tranquil? No. Amazing views? No. Better than a hotel room? Barely....

I grew up in a campground and I can say this is one of my favorite campgrounds. The sites are very private and you feel like you’re sleeping in the middle of the Blue Ridge Mountains, because you are. You are literally right off the Blue Ridge parkway. In one of Gods oldest creations in nature. The owners and employees are all top notch making you feel right at home. The bathhouse is amazing you’ll see. But truly other campgrounds should be learning from them on how to duplicate at every campground. Truly in a great location in the middle of it ALL!! You have Linville Caverns and Linville Falls both just a few minutes away and are is very inexpensive and tons of fun. At night you got the Famous Brown Mountain Lights right up the road (you’ll have to find a local to tell you the TRUE way to get there- so make sure and tip your locals…. your host at the campground and the tour guides at the cavers with all that money you’ve saved from the day of fun in Linville. Next Banner Elk if you want a great meal - Every single restaurant is Amazing and with the town population barely over 1,000 you will be feeling like your part of the town by night fall. But please don’t forget your fishing poles and fly rods cause the river misses you and the area has some of the prettiest trout ever. I can’t wait to go back. Shocker moment -this campground is so peaceful I once slept in till 12 pm, and I...
