Linville Falls General Store — Local services in Spruce Pine

Back in October I broke down near Linville Falls due to a bad alternator late on a Sunday afternoon. I had no cell reception so I made my way back to town. The folks at this store let me use their phone to call for help. When they found out that AAA could take 6 hrs to arrive they said they would stay open for hours after their scheduled closing time so I would have access to a phone and a restroom. The stores owner even took me back to my car and helped me jump it and get it back to the General store where I was waiting on the tow truck. I will never be able to repay the kindness shown to me by the men and women who work at this store. We were on a trip through Western NC, and almost everyone was friendly and welcoming. This store was one of the exceptions. The staff here did not seem interested in helping us at all, and the only interaction between us and the staff was being asked to close the door on the way out. It wasn’t even a polite tone, which kind of ruined the mood for me. While in the store, the people there didn’t seem to acknowledge us at all. I was thinking about getting a light snack, but the atmosphere led me to not bother getting anything at all. Not to mention that a lot of the items were overpriced. If you are gonna run a store, at least be nice to your customers. I understand that it is difficult to manage a small business, but it is no excuse to treat people you haven’t met...

Stopped in after hiking Linville Falls as my son had to use the restroom. While he was in there they put an “out of order sign” on the door and once he walked out a man who was the manager/owner I presume said “can’t you read boy!” Who says that to a kid?! Seems they closed the restroom just so the public can’t use it. Absolutely nothing was out of order about it. Then we go to purchase a drink that was marked $1.69 and they charged us $1.89 and didn’t really want to fix the price difference although they finally did.
