OK, its not a five star hotel. But, they get five stars in my review! I'm not adding any pictures because the ones posted by the hotel do a great job showing the digs. Cell service is minimal, and wifi only available at the office. Decide for yourself if thats a problem or a benefit. ;)
This is an old school motel that I visited several times decades ago, and it was decades old then. I'm guessing early 50s vintage? It has been tastefully updated with modern fixtures and decorating and its just super cozy and nice, inside and out (yes, of course there is a coffee maker, coffee, and tea in every room!). On top of that, the folks who run the place are friendly and helpful. If you're looking for a comfortable place to rest after hiking through the gorge, this is it.
They also are doing a commendable job keeping things properly sanitized and protected in these pandemic times. The cleaning crew is thorough. Wendy, the manager, doesn't seem to wear a mask when folks come into her office, but distance is kept and interactions are quick and friendly. It seemed reasonable to me.
The rooms in the motel are small (I mentioned 50s vintage, right?). But they are well appointed, clean, and cozy. In the King rooms the bed fills the room with just enough room to walk around it. For a couple or small family it might get claustrophobic if you find yourselves having to stay indoors due to the weather, but the relaxing chairs on the covered porch that spans the entire motel are a great way to expand your living area.
The cabins on the perimeter offer the same fresh decorating and cozy quarters, with expanded living areas and small kitchens. Totally worth it for a couple or small family vising for a few days who need a bit more than just a...
Read moreI wish I could give this place four and a half stars, four doesn't feel good enough, but five is too much. I say that for one reason... free Wi-Fi. The lodge is advertised as having free Wi-Fi, but it's only available at the office. Not throughout the lodge. BUT I didn't stay there to be on my phone the whole time. This was my first family vacation to the mountains in several years and I wanted it to be just that, family time. This lodge was perfect. It sits at a fork in the road with an awesome general store and restaurant right across the street. We simply walked to our breakfast and dinners. I originally booked a 2 queen bed room in the lodge, but due to weather conditions, changed the date of my stay. When attempting to do so, the lodge manager, Wendy, informed me that someone had just booked the last double room. So she offered me a cottage accommodation, minus the kid fee. The cottages and the manor are adult only and come with a $40 fee for children. I was grateful for that since the cottage was really the way to go. Two bedrooms, a decent bathroom, and a full kitchen, plus satellite TV and a wrap around porch. Very nice. We had fresh bedding and towels with complimentary soap and coffee in the kitchen. This place was minutes from everywhere we wanted to be, including Grandfather Mountain, Linville Caverns, and Linville Falls. We drove into town and hit up Pack Racks Army surplus store, which was an added bonus since my son's a military buff and the owners there were awesome, along with some BBQ places. The Blueridge Parkway weaves about the area so sightseeing is easy to get to from the lodge. Just overall, I felt like I couldn't have picked a better spot to hunker down for our...
Read moreWe really enjoyed our stay at Linville Falls Lodge. We stayed for two nights. It was a nice change from our usual stays at chain hotels. The room was comfortable and clean and very different from corporate hotels. The walls, ceiling, and floor were all wood, there was a ceiling fan which I loved because most hotels don't have fans and I sleep with one at home. They had direct TV. The grounds were lovely and well maintained. There is a free breakfast, although it was mostly a variety of toastable breads/bagels/English muffins with some spreads, fruit, yogurt, and fruit juices. Nothing terribly exciting but filling and free. There is also a very close restaurant to purchase a hot meal at. The location is the best part as it is very close to the falls and the caverns, which is the reason we were there. It does have some cons, although they didn't bother us. I'm not sure the room we stayed in has AC, if it does I didn't see it. We slept with the windows open and the fan running and it was really nice (there was a heater in the room and the bathroom). There is also no wi-fi and pretty much no phone service. We went to spend time with each other and get away so wasn't an issue but I saw at least one person who looked annoyed. They have books you can borrow but you may want to bring your own. Overall, we really enjoyed it, it was a very pleasant, quiet...
