I saw all of the hype about the Pinemark Inn in St. Clair, MO and also a few YouTube videos of people who stayed there, so my wife and I decided to stay at the Pinemark Inn on our recent Route 66 road trip as it seemed like a great amazing hotel. It was panned as "Ranked #1 in Missouri and #20 Nationwide". Based upon my stay, however, these ratings don't bode well for the hotel industry. I was very, very underwhelmed by my stay at Pinemark this past week: My room was supposed to have 2 queen beds in it. Instead, we got a room with 2 'full' beds..each smaller than any queen-sized bed that I have ever slept in. My wife and I had to sleep in separate beds due to how small they each were and we're not large people. Not a great vacation night. Felt like we were in a 1950s TV show.. a married couple sleeping in separate beds. One of the amenities listed was the hot buffet breakfast. Well, the "buffet breakfast' is in a small room off the main lobby and had small containers of tiny sausage pieces, scrambled eggs, dried sunnyside up eggs with a seasoning, biscuits, and gravy. 4 full size cereal boxes that you'd find in a supermarket were sitting on a shelf. A waffle machine, a tiny fridge for milk and yogurt, and a pancake maker. The eating room (Travelers Repose) was about 20'x15' in size and had 4 tables in it plus a bar table. The breakfast buffet was billed as being almost luxurious. We got to breakfast about a half hour after it opened in the morning so it's not like we got there at the end of breakfast and were left with scarps. Rather disappointing in numerous ways based upon the hype. This hotel must be wood-framed as I could hear the next door person snoring and it sounded like the people above us were playing basketball in their room much of the night as we could easily hear every step they took on the floor and they obviously didn't do a lot of sleeping. Most commercial hotels are constructed of concrete which do a much better job of insulating noise from floor to floor and room to room... this one was undoubtedly wood frame constructed like a home. If you need quiet to sleep, this hotel is not a good option. Our room was immediately across from the pool and we could hear people playing cornhole into the night in front of the pool. Every time a cornhole bag hit the cornhole board, it made a subtle bang that was easily heard in our room. Plus, the night-time pool party. Hard to fall asleep with that going on. In-room robes were advertised although our room only had 1. I let my wife use ours since there were not 1 for each of us as I had expected. There is an exterior paver sitting area near the parking lot. My wife and I went out there to watch the sunset. There is a firepit there however it was not lit at all. We could see the lobby and front desk from there (so they could see us) but apparently the staff didn't think about lighting the firepit for their guests.
The room was clean and the staff at check-in was friendly, however, based upon the hype that I saw on Google, Yelp, etc. and the Inn's own website ahead of time which led me to reserve a room there when we passed through St. Clair, I was somewhat disappointed in this hotel. We stayed at many different hotels along our Route 66 path and I would rank Pinemark as being very, very average. We also stayed at a Courtyard By Marriott as well as some smaller independent hotels along the way and most of these others hotels surpassed the Pinemark in terms of room, amenities, breakfast buffet, quietness, etc. I'd rank the Pinemark Inn as being 2.5 stars out of 5. I read alot of the reviews ahead of time and it's almost like we stayed at a different hotel from the hotel that others reviewed with a 5 star rating. Very odd. When I pass through St. Clair, MO again future, I will be staying at a...
Read moreI had just returned from a short trip to Missouri and stayed at Pinemark Inn & Suites for 2 nights. My friend made the reservation at Pinemark as she had a golf tournament in nearby Sullivan, MO, and surrounding lodgings were slim pickings. Pinemark looked the best out of everything around there. It didn’t hurt that they had an outdoor pool as well. ||Pinemark is located off the highway. Tucked away enough to not be too bothered by the sounds of passing vehicles. The property looked super cute from what we could see at first glance. We had driven from Canada and arrived pretty late. We were greeted by Ash at Front Desk who went above and beyond to ensure that we had everything we needed. She offered to pop some fresh popcorn for us and she provided me with information for transportation and places to visit while my friend was at her golf tournament. Whatever she’s being paid, it should be doubled because she was a delight.||We were booked in Room 116. The room had the regular hotel offerings - 2 beds, office desk, wall mounted TV, microwave, mini-fridge, iron, ironing board, toiletries, etc. The temperature was easy to control, so we slept comfortably. The best part about the room was that the flooring wasn’t the usual nasty hotel carpeting which was nice. The room was clean and well-maintained.||Breakfast was complimentary and it was available between 0600-0900. The breakfast area was a very cute and clean space. The spread was great. It had everything you’d want for breakfast - protein, eggs, oatmeal, cereal, pancakes, bagels, toast, juices, tea, etc. A nice selection of coffee and hot chocolate was located adjacent to the Front Desk area as that was available throughout the day. The best part of the breakfast buffet was the pancake maker that produced perfectly cooked pancakes every time. Obsessed!||I was able to get in some pool time after I did my solo tourist thing. The weather was hovering around 35 degrees, so a dip in the pool was much needed. The pool area can be accessed with your room key. Towels are located in the lobby. The pool had several loungers and patio sets surrounding it. The pool was kept in pristine condition.||The property itself had several places to sit outside. There were even fire pits located near the pool with s’mores kits available at Front Desk. We had every intention of making s’mores, but the 15 hour drive back to Canada prevented us from staying up late to do so. The lobby also had a popcorn machine that had bagged popcorn available for guests. Such a nice touch.||Overall, we had a fantastic stay at Pinemark Inn & Suites. If you’re visiting the St. Louis area, consider staying a little but outside the city at this quaint family-owned establishment. As someone who frequents hotels in the Toronto area, staying at a place like this was a nice change. If I ever found myself in the area again, I would definitely book here again. Thanks for the hospitality and...
Read moreI had the worst experience with this hotel. I got married in September near this hotel so we really had no choice in our hotels. Granted I will give one star because their honeymoon suite was very nice and gave us plenty of room to get ready. However, from the very beginning of dealing with the hotel to the very end was a nightmare. No one on the staff is on the same place. When I first call to block rooms off they told me they would only do 20 even though I told them we have a lot of family members needing a room, so I said ok, but please call me if they start to fill up so I can block off more rooms. I called a couple months later to ask a question and was informed that I was about to loose the cottage because I didn't put a deposit down. I was never informed of even needing to put a deposit down so glad I called before I lost it. Closer to the wedding I get a call from my now mother n law telling me that her and her husband couldn't get the group rate discount because he needed a handicap room and they didn't have one of those block off. Should of still given him that discount. Its not his fault he needed a special room. Closer to the wedding I had to called again because I hear there was dog show in that weekend and they were full on rooms. I called because they were supposed to call me if they were filling up. Never received that phone call. They said because guests were not booking the rooms I block they didn't feel a need to. Course they were not calling because they did not receive their invitations yet with the info! They offered me the conference room for guests. Why in the world would I make them all sleep in one big room? I had to call another hotel to block rooms off for them. Not fair to those guests that wanted to spend time with us and not to mention all the invitations with the wrong hotel information. Lastly, the week before the wedding I called and gave them a list of all the groomsmen/bridesmaids and their guests bc they were all staying in the cottage and wanted them all to pay the same amount for the whole weekend. They were charging everyone different then to come out while on my honeymoon they try to say we still owe over $200 which would been well over the total due for the hotel . Even while being there I had to explain several times to the front desk what they should be charging. The whole experience was huge mess and they even threw a way a couple very special items from past love ones. I will never return...
