We came to visit family in Rogersville/Lexington and decided to stay the night at Joe Wheeler. We have stayed at the campground many times before and fished Wheeler Lake all the time when we lived in North AL, but this is the first time staying in the lodge. Built in 1974, Joe Wheeler State Park Lodge overlooks Wheeler Lake. Each Lodge room has beautiful views. Ours was especially nice since we were on the third floor. The Lodge is a little dated but very well up kept. Beds were soft, and comfortable! Carpet was relatively new. Room was clean. Bathroom and shower were a little dated, but clean. In room mini fridge, microwave and TV with Direct TV and multiple channels. Price was $102 plus tax for a double queen room, very reasonable. Staff was nice and helpful upon checkin. We could have stayed in Florence with more choices but Joe Wheeler was much closer to family and well worth the stay. The Lodge offers a pool, snacks, a restaurant, boat dock and marina. Multiple hiking trails, campgrounds for RV and primitive camping, and day use with swimming areas. We love Alabama State Parks for RV camping, but the Lodge was great for an overnight stay or longer! Highly recommend! Will be back!

Loved the ease of walking in and around the state park, but the cabins are overdue for a renovation. We stayed in a "cabin", which was a 4 bedroom brick house with a wonderful view of the dam. The bathroom towels were plentiful and clean. Unfortunately, the house was in need of a lot of work. Torn off screen porch, torn up mini blinds in nearly every room, rust in the bathroom, worn comforters and furniture...I could go on but you get the picture. I understand that money probably doesn't flow from the state as much as is probably needed to keep these properties in shape. I would rather pay more money to stay at the state parks to help with the maintenance of than pay under $200 a night.

It should have been obvious but we (my niece and I) did not know the difference between a Lodge and a Hotel. A Lodge is where you basically sleep for the night. And now that I know, it makes more sense. The rooms were clean and there was a little frig and microwave. The balcony was awesome! It overlooked the river. It was peaceful. There's a restaurant downstairs and we had all you can eat prime rib...it was great! Only problem I really had was I put our dirty towels out and asked for new ones, but never got them. Luckily, I always pack a couple, just in case. All together , our visit was peaceful and I got to spend time with my niece, so I am happy 😁!

Resort Lodge Joe Wheeler State Park 4401 McLean Drive Rogersville, Alabama 35652

Hidden gem amidst a very nice state park, with lots of amenities and fun things to keep a Family of Couple entertained. Lodge itself will remind you of going back a few years, but very clean and with a friendly staff.

At Check-In, our Receptionist was super friendly and wonderful at explaining both the lodge, and the wide variety of activities and ā€˜things to do’ in the park. Lots of brochures, free coffee and seating areas in the foyer to sit and relax. Rooms are nicely furnished and each have a balcony with two chairs overlooking the lake. In-room refrigerators, micro-wave oven and dining table with chairs. Very typical hotel room, free WiFi and Direct TV; in-room coffee maker and coffee. The Lodge has a enclosed outdoor swimming pool with lounge chairs.

The Lodge has an attached restaurant - Daniella’s, that offers breakfast, lunch and dinner meals. Service was both buffet style and off-the-menu, they also serve beer. Their hours of operation are seasonal, recommend calling prior - regardless, their are several restaurants within a few miles from the park. A complete listing was available at the Reception Desk.

The State Park and the Resort Lodge were absolutely phenomenal and well worth the value. We strongly recommend a stay - booking on-line was easy and the rates were well below the cost of an...

View from rooms of Tennessee river cove are fantastic. Balcony's offer great ambience and rooms are mostly a great value but marginally clean. Know that bed bugs are possible and might require a room change out. Twice for me. Will most definitely stay again but for sure will be weary of the bed bug possibilities. The beds are stiff and could use a change out. State park budgets and returns might not allow for these needed improvements. My thoughts are increase room rates a bit and fix the rooms. Property is typical state park budget reflected. There is a restaurant that attracts a busy crowd during the weekend but only par at best during off season day's. They do offer beers and limited mix drinks. Also offered off season is breakfast on Thursdays through Sundays and tasty. During the summer the fantastic large pool attracts lots of people. Large area great for sunning and fishing. So much to do. The greatest asset about the rooms at the lodge is the all balcony rooms overlooking the beautiful Tennessee river (cove) and marina. You will find it hard not to constantly want to keep the drapes open at all times coupled with lots of balcony time. Truly a great experience & really the only option for lodging in the...
