Earlier this week, we saw an article in the “Westchester” magazine about the Inn at Hill Farm and its recently opened restaurant. It received an excellent review so we decided to drive up and check it out ourselves as we noted that the chef had previously worked at the Stone Barn at Blue Hill Restaurant in Pocantico Hills (Westchester County, New York).
Upon arrival we were greeted by Abbey. She as well as all the staff working during our stay were very welcoming and respectful. They made us feel at home. We especially appreciated speaking to Maria who spoke with us at length as she made her away around the dining room at breakfast.
We were fortunate to get the last available room the night we stayed. It was the Saratoga Springs queen room. It was clean and had everything we needed. The best amenity was the bathroom, roomy and the walk-in shower very nicely constructed. If we stay again though, we will choose the king suite room as it looked larger and even more accommodating in every way.
We ate dinner at the restaurant and it was simply fabulous. It was a Thursday night so it was pizza night and $5 draft beers. The pizza was the best and the glasses of beer (“Elaborate Metaphor”) that I had were super. We also had their oysters, cucumber salad, and sea bass and all were delicious. We ended our meal with the out-of-this-world Tahini ice cream!! Kudos to the chef and our server!
The grounds are beautiful and we walked all over. While we did not use the pool it looked very nice and quite large. The wraparound covered porch was a delight as was the game room and large living room.
We stayed 20 hours at the Inn and seemed like we were there a few days. A great place to visit, eat and stay at anytime of year, I am sure. I can only imagine the great fireplaces roaring on cold winter days.
See you again soon!
Sincerely, Jon & Lisa Ross
PS We also highly recommend taking a ride (10 minutes or so away) to Manchester Center to shop, eat and walk around. It was a terrific experience before we made...
Read moreWe are so grateful we chose Hill Farm Inn in Sunderland, Vermont for our wedding - it was everything we hoped for and more. From the moment we arrived, Joanne, Steph, Pablo, and the whole Hill Farm team made us and our guests feel warm, welcomed, and at home. They never once treated us like just another wedding - they crafted a truly bespoke experience that felt both relaxed and special.
The setting at Hill Farm is nothing short of magical. With sweeping views of the Equinox and Taconic Mountains, the rolling lawns, the river frontage along the Battenkill, and the walking trails, it felt like stepping into our own private Vermont paradise.
Every detail felt personal. The rooms were cozy, lovely, with little artisan touches and perfect views. The cottages made overnight stays with family so comfortable and intimate. And the restaurant (the food, drinks, ambience and the service) was exceptional. Seasonal, fresh, delicious, and never once generic.
What really stood out was how Hill Farm never felt like a wedding “factory.” Everything was so thoughtfully done - from the farm-to-table cuisine, made with ingredients from their own garden and neighboring farms, to the way the spaces flow seamlessly between ceremony-site, cocktail hour lawn, barn event space and patios. We love that our guests could enjoy fire pits, the porch and patios, the green lawns, even rustic moments by the river - all of which contributed to an atmosphere that was relaxed yet deeply beautiful.
If you want a wedding venue that refuses to do the usual, that gives you more than just a ceremony, that gives your friends and family a weekend to remember, Hill Farm is it. Thank you, Joanne, Steph, Pablo and everyone, for making our wedding weekend...
Read moreWe only stayed 1 night at Hill Farm by Sagra but we were more than pleasantly pleased with our experience. We are nitpicks when it comes to cleanliness and we did not notice a speck of dust anywhere. The baseboards, chair rails and shelving are obviously wiped down regularly. The linens as well as all the bed pillows smelled fresh and clean. When we were checking out we did notice one of the rooms being completely stripped of all bedding including blankets being replaced with clean bedding. That was very nice to see. Outside of the room the grounds are tranquil, well manicured and ready for guests to enjoy. We enjoyed our evening with a glass of wine on the back porch as a mist moved over a nearby mountain. So relaxing! Breakfast was tasty, and well rounded. The scones are definitely worth a try with a bit of jam or even plain. The restaurant on the property is also worth a try. We found the menu small, but inventive and fresh tasting. The ambiance is open, farm inspired and very appealing. Almost everything we tried was delicious. Though the restaurant may have a few kinks to work out (they had run out of a few things by our seating and the risotto needs work) it is still worth a trip seeing that overall it has a lot going for it. I would recommend trying all the starters! The website pictures do not do the property justice as the photos look a little sparse and lacking in character. I am very pleased to say that is not how the room, property or experience was at all! Overall our only real disappointment is that we did not stay longer. We will...
