Meals were excellent, especially the superb buffet breakfast at the Cascades. Employees were always alert, friendly, cooperative and helpful. The hot tubs & heated pool are a real plus.
Wi-Fi is a serious problem. Even mid-day when folks are skiing and most likely not using Wi-Fi, I found Wi-Fi to be very intermittent, dropping off, and then a bit later coming back on. Employees acknowledged this was a problem.
Being unfamiliar with the resort, I decided to use valet parking on our first day. It worked great on day one (Friday). I felt there was no need for the valet parking on days 2-4. That was a bad assumption. When I switched to day parking on Saturday, I found it was impossible to find a spot in the day lot. Apparently non-resort guests can pay to use the day lot. I decided to continue with valet parking on days 2-4. An unexpected annoyance.
OK I get valet parking is $65 per day but why does the resort charge $25 for a guest to self park?
We rented 1/2-day cross country skis with a 1/2-day pass (4hrs). Out for less than one hour and it was impossible to ski, impossible to glide. The skis were not waxed properly, or maybe not at all, for the snow conditions. 2-4” of snow built up under foot on the bases.
The resort fee of $50 was not a surprise since this seems to be consistent with other hotels and resorts. It may be appropriate to say this is for the pool, hot tubs, gym, sauna, etc. but it is certainly not appropriate to say this is also for in-room amenities like coffee machine, mini fridge, local and toll-free calls and Wi-Fi that are typically included in the basic room rate.
On reviewing the final bill during checkout, I was surprised with a charge termed “Custom Package” of $15-$22.50 per day. None of the employees at the front desk could explain what this charge was for. We couldn’t wait for an answer.
The one page info guide sheet is not very useful for someone who is not technically savvy about how to use a QR reader. Would prefer a looseleaf guide in each room.
Website advertising suggests renting skis using the website a day in advance to avoid delays when picking up skis. It turns out you cannot complete the paperwork on-line. You have to fill out paperwork at the rental desk.
We chose the Resort at Squaw Creek because of easy access to the spa. During our four-day visit there were no slots available for a 1-hour massage. You definitely must schedule in advance.
On arrival I was told to hit zero on the phone to have my luggage brought up. The phone didn’t work. It wasn’t charged. The phone plug was sticking out of a triple plug adapter in the wall outlet most likely pulled out by the heavy curtain drawn in front of it. This was a poor attempt to put multiple plugs in a two-plug outlet.
The phone was dirty with dust in all the corners and crevasses, perhaps due to the lack of cleaning during the pandemic. Room service tried but could not remove the dust.
As soon as I entered our room, I noticed the carpet had lint and other particles on it. It needed to be vacuumed. Housekeeping eventually came up and vacuumed.
The valley view from our room was great but our fireplace suite room had a very poor layout. It was too small to easily accommodate two larger (not carry on) suitcases to “live” out of. We could have unpacked and used the dresser but that’s not what we did.
The room had robes but no slippers. In the accommodations and amenities ad, slippers should have been in the closet with the robes. We were able to get some from the cleaning people in...
Read moreAll I can say is WOW!! I have lived in California for over 40 years and I have skied at many places, but I had never been to squaw valley, otherwise known as the resort at Squaw Creek.
That changed this Father’s Day weekend when I went to attend my nephew’s wedding. Of course it’s June, and it was above 90 degrees there during the heatwave, but that didn’t make any difference. This resort is amazing in many ways!
Just to get it out of the way, let me say that YES, it’s very expensive, and they have you over a barrel, you get what you need there, especially late at night, or you don’t get it. BUT, unlike every other place I have been to that seems designed to separate you from as much of your money as they possibly can, this one REALKY SEEMS TO MAKE IT WORTH IT with quality of product and delivery.
For example, we rushed to their only open restaurant at about 9:45 pm, to get some light dinner and deserts. Even though they closed at 10, they let us in and took our order and promised to let us stay as long as we wanted.
Yes, the milkshakes were $18, and the small meals in the high $20s, but it was UNPARALLELED! The milkshakes came with multiple full size candy bars as PART of them, the ice cream was full of chunks of candy, and they even had thick chocolate and MnM’s encrusting around the outside of the glass. This is just one example, but this place was FULL of amazingly decadent indulgences!
The wedding we attended there had the backdrop of the picturesque valley and mountains, that were covered in beautiful green trees, with depth of field that was just stunning. The wedding food was absolutely top notch and delivered so well.
The room we had, a large suite, had a separate bedroom that had a bathroom door to the bathroom, and there was another door, so people outside the bedroom could use the bathroom without us in the bedroom. They had immaculate cleanliness, and the staff went out of the way to cater to our EVERY NEED! The room had everything you’d expect, and a lot more.
They had multiple pools that were warm and wonderful! They also had multiple hot tubs! And when we are swimming near dark they brought out a huge inflatable screen and showed a kids movie as it got dark! Apparently the pools and hot tubs are open and heated all year, in sun or snow! They had plentiful HUGE beach towels too.
There’s so many levels with shops all over, yes, it’s all over priced, but the stuff is awesome! My wife found an amazing piece in their jewelry store and all day I tried to get away to buy it for her, but was unable to sneak away, and then when I could, Sunday morning, the place was closed.
All this and there was no snow! I can’t imagine how great this place would be in the snow and winter skiing season. So, with all that being said, there’s a few things that they could do better. They certainly could provide stronger coffee in the rooms. They have those little k cup thingys, and they make about 4oz of weak coffee. And the little deli on the promenade that advertises Starbucks coffee, the lines are unbearable in the morning, and the coffee is clearly watered down. Very weak compared to normal Starbucks, and pricier than normal.
Also, self parking is $20 and it’s a ten minute walk from the hotel. Not the worst, but certainly not convenient. $50 for valet. But if you can just stay in and enjoy everything, that’s optimal. I can’t really afford to go there, but it WAS SUCH AN AMAZING and special experience, I’m racking my brain to find an excuse to...

It's all about who you know, right? I have an awesome person in my life that has allowed my fiance and I to stay in his room here at Squaw Creek. He's a penthouse owner. Honestly the place is nicer than my own home. I'd probably never, ever have the opportunity to stay in a room like this if not for the generosity and kindness of this person. I'm so grateful to have stayed here more than once.
The staff is amazing. Very helpful and very friendly and many of them have very nice moustaches. :) The bartenders downstairs are nice. Drinks aren't unreasonably priced and they are tasty. I recommend the chocolate martini. There is also a brownie sundae at that bar that's very good. To avoid confusion, it's an actual brownie; not a drink.
In winter there are stations set up for S'mores at certain times. It was awesome - we happened to wander by one of these real fires on our way to the spa. It was surrounded by chairs with a table of marshmallows, full-sized Hershey's bars, roasting sticks, and of course, a bowl of Graham crackers. However, not long after sitting down, first S'more almost perfectly browned, a family with several children came over and the kids were (Surprise!!!) a nightmare. The parents didn't seem concerned by the mess their kids were making - it was gross. No manners.
Once we reached the spa we realized there are 3 spas all scattered closely around the pool. Unfortunately, once again, parents with no manners were letting their kids go from spa to spa. Mind you, two of these are adults only. Why have an adults only spa? I'd answer this but I have a feeling there is a character limit for these reviews and I could go on and on. Either way, act like a parent and set a good example by following the rules. I think the resort could use a small gate around these two spas. Nothing inconvenient, no key, just something with a sign that maybe states more boldly "adults only".
Getting out of the spa was the hard part. Thankfully all rooms come equipped with big, fluffy robes to wrap in as you walk up the steps back to the rooms. That was nice. Even walking barefoot wasn't so bad with the plush warmth around our bodies.
Speaking of walking, the parking lot is a good walk from the hotel so make sure to get all your stuff in one trip if you're not a fan of walking. Honestly though, it surprises me how many times I heard people complain about this. Bringing it up in my review is not a complaint. Sure, it's inconvenient when if you want to just "run to the car real quick", but honestly, I am so thankful to have the ability to walk that I'd never complain about having to do it. Put on a faux fur lined hooded jacket, some mittens and some boots, and enjoy the breath-taking beauty that surrounds you at...
