What a great first impression Granlibakken made!
The resort is tucked away south of Tahoe City. We saw the sign to go into the resort and was greeted with an adorable set of starry lights on lamps guiding us to the resort. The lobby itself was nestled a bit more deep into the resort (for us, we came in through the poolside so had to loop around) but wasn't hard to find.
One of the things I really loved about the Ganlibakken was just how friendly every single person was and full of character. People were not only chill but just super helpful and kind. I had a broken zipper on my jacket and the staff at the front desk were so nice in just offering advice and trying to open the zipper as well. There was also an ice scraper available to utilize which was uberhelpful for us as it snowed a bunch when we were there.
The rooms were spread out across several buildings throughout the property and the inside was super comfy. The heater worked well. The beds and blankets were super warm. The view outside of all the snow was wonderful. The shower was solid and had good pressure/temperature. There was a small closet, microwave, and fridge as well.
Love also that the resort is created where you should be able to get to most of the amenities by walking. So even though our room was more north, we were able to walk to the restaurant pretty easily if we needed to without driving around as well as the pool. (Just be aware that pathways of course are slippery in the winter). I also loved the various activities around like the jacuzzi/pool that were open in the afternoon during the winter to of course the snow hill with sledding/lessons for skiing and snowboarding. Really neat and will review those separately. Even the food was all surprisingly solid when it was the last thing I expected!
Slight pain points that the hotel was aware of! *The WiFi was super spotty. The hotel tried to help with more options for Wifi codes but unfortunately didn't quite work right. *The gym itself isn't too bad with some free weights / some cardio machines / a barbell. It was leaking though during our visit so some of the gym was inaccessible. Also recommended to bring your own towel and wipes as they weren't available in the gym as well as your own music. *Be aware that parking may fill up close to your room.
Also, if you are planning on using the snow hill on the property, I'd recommend taking the car if you can so your supplies are nearby. Although that area fills up a bunch, parking is usually available at least to the sides of the snow hill.
Can't wait...
Read moreThe room was fine but a bit overpriced but my checkin experience and service why I am leaving a poor review. I checked in and noticed my room was cold but didn't think much about it and left to meet family for dinner. When I returned to the room in the evening if was obvious the heating was not working. I called the front desk and he said he would send maintenance. After sitting in the freezing room during a snow storm I might add for nearly 40 mins I called back to the front desk and asked when maintenance is coming that the room is freezing. The guy seemed shocked asked me "they didn't arrive?". I say of course not, that's why I am calling. He says he "guesses they will be there soon" and hangs up. Maintenance finally arrives and they confirm there is nothing to do and tell me to call front desk. The guy says he will change rooms and I have to come to the front desk. The go down and the guy gives me attitude and acts like I created the scenario. I say look I just want a warm room. He finally gives me a key to a new room but refuses to give me a print out of the WiFi code which they had done when I originally checked in. Instead he says I have to call him from the new room once I am in and he will give me the code. Again with more rude attitude. I get to the room and call him and he says "one second he needs to put me on hold". After sitting on hold for 15 mins I call back and he gives me more attitude and says "I am busy" and puts me on hold without him saying he is putting me on hold, just clicks it. I am stuck waiting another 10 mins for him to come back and give me the code. The whole scenario is even more annoying because the hotel is a dead zone so without WiFi I have no way to contact anyone. The whole scenario took nearly 2 hours to finally get checked into my room and have everything working. The heating was one thing but having rude employees takes the scenario to a much worse place. His attitude and lack of work probably turned a 30 min situation into nearly two hours of my...
Read moreWe were excited to stay here and made reservations ahead of time in May for a stay in August as a splurge for our 32nd wedding anniversary.|We chose our standard room with care as we wanted pet free, 3rd floor for quiet and a treetop view. A king bed in a large room for my 6'4" tall hubby was a must. |We were disappointed at the office registration to find they had already given our designated room to someone else! They booked us into an "upgrade" which was a 2nd floor studio with a queen Murphy bed and a kitchen we didn't want. "Take it or leave it, we're full". So, we took it. Bearpaw room 30A for 2 nights $520.|Husband wasn't happy to have a smaller bed that was about 14" off the floor in height and a tiny bathroom with shallow tub/shower combo. We didn't need the kitchen which took up most of the space. The surfaces were worn, the room smelt mildewy and we immediately opened all the windows. The linens were nice, the balcony was fine but surfaces were worn. |The entry into the Bearpaw building is dark and dank with worn out materials. The room shares an inner vestibule with another room and noise transference was an issue, especially the heavy doors clanging shut. |The breakfast was very good, but on the 2nd morning the hot foods were cold for some reason. |A positive was our anniversary dinner at The Cedar House Pub. The food and a drink each with dessert was very good $100+ with excellent table side service. |The pool house has changing rooms and good selection of lounges & chairs. Unfortunately, the "heated" pool was too cold to swim in while the hot tub was fine. |The resort is spread out and hilly, so walking through parking lots to places can be challenging. |We felt management didn't give us any option when they gave away our desired room. While the "upgrade" may have seemed generous to them, WE didn't appreciate or need what it entailed.|I can't recommend due to this experience and the so-so upkeep of the...
