Tahoe House Bakery & Gourmet in Lake Tahoe is a solid 4-star spot for breakfast and baked goods. Here's what I experienced:
Great for Pups and People: They have both indoor and outdoor seating, and the outdoor area even has a special spot for dogs to relax and get some water. This is a big plus for pet owners! However, be aware that parking can be tricky. The lot is small, and the place is always busy, especially on the weekends.
Busy But Worth It: I went at 7:30 am on a Saturday, and the line was out the door. There was a bit of a wait (around 5 minutes), but the service itself was very fast.
A Mini-Market of Deliciousness: This place is like a one-stop shop for breakfast and treats. They have a huge variety, including frozen food, wine, grab-and-go options, bagels, all sorts of breads, pastries, beverages, and even cakes. It's a bit overwhelming at first!
Solid Eats and Helpful Staff: Luckily, the staff was super friendly. The lady helping me noticed I was a bit lost with all the choices and offered some suggestions. I ended up getting a jalapeno bagel with cream cheese (they have a toaster where you can toast it if you want) and a chai latte. The bagel was delicious, although I would have loved to see more spread options beyond cream cheese. The chai latte was also decent, especially compared to some other coffee shops in the area.
Reasonable Prices: Overall, the prices were very reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. The staff's helpfulness and the wide variety of options make this a great spot. Just be prepared for a potential wait, especially on weekends, and keep the parking...
Read moreSome of the worst service I've ever experienced. There was one cashier and I was next in line, then a second cashier came up and asked "who is next?" Before I had a chance to say that I was, an old white lady walked right past the entire line and went right up to the cashier. I then said, "actually, I was next" and the cashier turned to me, rolled her eyes and with an extreme attitude she said "really?? Are you that big of a hurry? Seriously?" I was shocked at her rudeness. I said, "well, I was next, and she cut in front of the entire line" and she kept being sarcastic and saying to the lady that cut, "I'm sorry ma'am, let me help this guy because he's in such a rush and it's so important that he orders". I just gave up and said, "it's fine, just help her, it doesn't really matter". Then another cashier came up and said she would help me. I can't understand why she had that attitude. Maybe she was being racist because I'm of middle eastern decent and the lady is white, or maybe she thought I was lying about the lady cutting the line. Either way, her behavior and method of handling the situation was despicable. The food was good, but it's a shame that the service was...
Read morePastries were undercooked and doughy-raw in the center; counter service with full blown "can't stand working here/hate you for coming in and adding to our line/how dare you ask a question I've answered 800 times already this summer" attitude; coffee very mediocre and very-very lukewarm; and yes, hate to break it to to the snobs at the counter who couldn't google a smile if they were forced to ~ there is a definite difference between half-and-half and whole milk. Sorry Sorry for coming in. Sorry for suggesting this place to my Senior Pastry Chef/Baker mother as worth the stop. Sorry for standing in your line and contributing to your til. Sorry you got a tip that you neither deserved, nor earned. It will never happen again. One star for the pretty picture in the cheap/broken frame on the wall. Absolutely the beginning of ruining my day, and then, weekend. Just go through the motions and hope no one notices what you are (and are...
