I'm Spire Elite and have stayed in IHG hotels all over the nation. This site looks good from the outside, and in the Tehachapi area the hotels appear highly reviewed. Seeing other guests' concerns about this hotel, I decided to give it a chance as all other IHG hotels - even with the occasional flaw - are still good. It helped that this property is still fairly new, having been built within the last dozen years or so. I arrived to a lobby in shambles (for refurbishment), many of the floors removed (including the elevator floor that is bare plywood), worn out mattresses, an odd old-hotel smell, sticky carpet, and flat pillows. Water pressure is too good (yes this is possible) as the shower was painful on two out of three settings. I was able to throttle the shower back a bit by being creative with the shower head settings. The carpet becomes stickier when your feet are damp (like you dried them with a towel and stood around on the mat for a minute then start walking {stick} {stick} {stick} eww ). The toilet valve shrieked in agony for the last three seconds of the tank filling EVERY time, also a sure sign of too much water pressure. The TV barely responded to the remote until i figured out that the sensor that is wired to the magic box was dangling in back somewhere as its double-sided tape had failed months ago. Once I propped it out front it worked fine. $0.07 of double-sided tape will fix this for now, or $0.25 and being clever behind the TV will fix this more permanently. I was able to fix the old-hotel-room smell by leaving the bathroom vent on and opening the exterior window slightly (fortunately this wasn't a non-opening window as is becoming so popular these days) . Tile guy started sawing things around 09:00PDT, I understand he needs to work, but perhaps sawing could occur behind a door or batch-cut outside until 10:00 or 11:00? Anyways, I'm happy to overlook a few oddities here and there, but this was too many, especially for a leisure stay with my family. I cancelled the rest of my stay the following morning and moved 55 miles away to the Holiday Inn in Palmdale. This was totally worth the extra 110 miles round trip to be in the Tehachapi area. About me: 40ish, travel the USA for business quite a bit, generally forgiving of plane/car/room issues, and sad that this hotel was in such a state that I felt I had to write...
Read moreA word of caution Do Not Use IHG Hotels and Resorts (InterContinental Hotels Group) to book a hotel. Our son was coming from Kansas to Fresno, California to visit us. They had some car trouble and needed to stop in Tehachapi, California. So his father and I got on the phone to find some hotels. We called the number on Trip Advisor which was (877) 895-5095 which is IHG customer service it is a separate entity from Holiday Inn Express, which we did not know. We just wanted to find out if there was any vacancies at Holiday Inn Express in Teachapi. IHG said yes and we told them we weren't ready to take the room just yet, that our son was not sure where he was going to stay. IHG said we could go ahead and leave our credit card information. I told her again we were not ready to take the room. She then said if he finds another hotel to call back and cancel and our credit card vould not be charged, My gut feeling was not to trust her and so l ask her again it we cancel the room reservation would our card be charged and again she replied no it will not be charged. My husband gave her the card number and I asked one more time, just to make sure our credit card would not be charged if canceled, again she said it would not. We called our son and told him about Holiday Inn Express and he told us he had found a hotel already. So we immediately called IG customer service back and told them we didn't need the room. Guess what... IHG told us their 24 hour policy and that they do not do refunds. So we want to let others know not to use this 2nd party reservation service. They are dishonest and should not be trusted. In our opinion Holiday Inn and other hotels should not be in...

Check out lady on 3/4/2018 at 1:30 pm was a little unorganized when she asked if I wanted to still use the same credit card to check out and I changed it. The new check out invoice showed our discover card and not master card. However they charged both cards anyway and our bank contacted us. 3. We let the same staff member know the main clothes cabinet was installed crooked and leaning because of bad construction installation, she really did not seem to care much. room 302. 4. Day time management did call and apologize about the double dipping but talked too me in a condescending way and questioning me about why I changed my credit card, put me personally on the defensive. I did nut appreciate that. The double dipping caused me some extra unwanted stress. We came up there in the first place to relax. We asked for some future hotel credit or some upgrade or something we eluded to to compensate for me having to be stressed out and use my work time to work the hotel double charging issues out. Her response was that she was sorry but I was to consider the many other hotels to check out next time we stayed up there. I thought that was pretty bad to say and not wanting to please the customer or even show any tiny actions to show good faith to earn future business was not right or cool! If I treated my many members that way in 35 years of business, I would not have a business. So this resonse will probably and most likely not get any future callback from your corporate headquarters, but we'll definitely be checking out and shopping out other hotels since the manger did not be anxious to see our...
