First of all this is a new casino — with this in mind the Terre Haute casino has done a good job putting its best foot forward. To begin with today was our second trip here- a few weeks ago we stopped in while in Terre Haute to get our players card and check it out. We were only here for an hour but it was a lucky hour for me. They had a promotion that you got free play spins your first five trips here so we spun for our first one.
Their marketing team was on the ball- I am not a big gambler but am consistent so typically get free nights in most casinos with a little free play. Within a week, I had an email offering free night’s stay and some free play. We happened to have a trip to Indianapolis airport this weekend (to go on an MGM junket to Atlantic City) so thought, why not. So here we came on a Saturday afternoon. They had another free spin as well as a drawing promotion offered free play. Even my husband who plays video poker got a little free play and some drawing chances.
The hotel:: wow! It is beautiful. The rooms are lovely and huge. The hallways are wide. The front desk staff were great - very friendly and waiting to help. The one thing that was a little odd was that they needed to see my husbands ID before they could make a key for him. I’m sure that is for our security but we were not prepared for that so he had to come in from the car to get the other key. You also need your key to get the elevator started. They didn’t have valet but had several carts to take your luggage up. Our room was ready when we arrived.
Casino: Again, new and beautifully done. Their announcements were clear as they explained how to do the drawing and whose names were drawn. They also had the names drawn up on video monitors throughout the casino and restaurants so you had visuals if you weren’t able to hear (muted in the restaurants.). The casino expected to be crowded today so they had staff set up to make cards as individuals came in. The casino is nonsmoking but they also had an “outdoor” gambling where people could smoke while they played.
Food: we chose the Rockwood Grill for dinner tonight. Never having been here to eat I walked in about 8:00 for dinner- people were waiting on their reservations which made me realize I should have stopped in sooner to make reservations.:(. However, the hostess was pleasant and asked me to just wait a minute for them to clean off the table. We ordered their burger to share which was as “damn good” as they said it was. It was $14 and that included fries! We thought this was extremely reasonable and it was delicious. We noticed others around us having the quesadilla which they said was delicious as well. While we were there we enjoyed live music in the restaurant. It was a very pleasant atmosphere. Also need to give a shout out to Amber, manager, who helped me later in the evening with a little situation getting a dessert from the steakhouse even though it was not her problem and Devon, waiter in the steakhouse, who offered to get the dessert we were wanting even though it wasn’t typically done. Both were appreciated for going above and beyond.
Suggestions: First- on our way here tonight we read the reviews — and have to admit I was a little apprehensive but you don’t need to be. Put a smile on your face and give grace! A casino is NOT here to hand you money- they are to provide an entertainment experience that you have a chance to bring money home from but should not have the expectation! Also, a suggestion that you have your staff members have cards they provide when serving customers (in lobby, casino, and restaurants) so we have names to include when we leave reviews. And finally, the Altitude Bar is lovely! If they had dessert menus, it is a great place to unwind, have a nightcap or sit and have a romantic dessert!
So, is it worth your time to stop in to the Terre Haute casino — YES! Did I leave tonight with money- NO, but I sure was...
Read moreWe had a less than pleasant experience at the hotel. Last weekend, my husband surprised me with a kidless overnight for our 10th anniversary. We checked in smoothly, unpacked some, visited the casino and got some milkshakes. Once we went back up to our room it was about 12:30 am and our key wouldn’t work. We went back downstairs and got our keys reset and went back. They still didn’t work. We called and they said they’d send maintenance up. We waited 45 mins for a guy to show up only for him to check our key. He brought no tools or anything with him. So then we waited an additional 30 minutes for another maintenance guy to come and also check our key. They determined the electronic lock was broken and told us they’d have to go get more tools to break into our room and we’d need another room. So we went back downstairs again and got assigned another room to check into while they tried to break into our room so we could go get all our stuff. It’s 2am at this point and we go to our new room, walk in and it’s already occupied. We rush out and go downstairs again and tell the guy that the room he assigned us was occupied and he had no clue. So we got assigned yet another room, and then had to go wait until they got our original room unlocked so we could go pack up our whole room and move. It was 3:00 am before we were able to go to bed. This experience was absolutely ridiculous. And we did not even get an apology. My husband complained and the guy at the desk said he’d leave a note for the manger. When we went to check out the next morning, they had absolutely no record of any of this happening to us. This guy also said he’d leave a note for the manager to contact us because he wasn’t authorized to refund us. It’s been over a week and we’ve still not gotten a call back from management. We should not have had to pay for this room. And at the very least we deserve an apology. We will not be staying there again. Don’t expect good customer service if you stay there. I understand that they can’t control the electronic locks failing. But taking that long to get us into the room is ridiculous (they even told us they had been having a lot of trouble with the locks so they should have been prepared). But sending us into an already occupied room at 2 am is completely...
Read moreWe have stayed there multiple times and had mostly good stays untill our last stay at the hotel. We were taking a break from the casino and was relaxing in our room. My wife walked in the door and the smoke alarm beaped 2 or 3 times. Not 1 person was smoking! We wondered what was going on but we have adt at home n it has done that from time to time so we didn't worry about it. 20 minutes later we get a knock on the door and it's security. They tell us they got the alarm and wanted to make sure it wasn't on fire. We invite them in no problem because we knew we had done nothing wrong . Out of 3 guards 1 came in to the 1st bed n the other 2 didn't make it to the bathroom. They joked with us n they left. We thought ok no big deal. Till the next day when we get home n check our account and realize there was an extra charge of 280$. We call n they say we'll its because we smoked in the room. Which we did not!!! They gave us 4 different stories. 1st housekeeping smelled it. Then security seen us smoking and put it out in a cup. Then security smelled smoke and seen a cig in a cup then security seen smoke, seen a cig in a cup and smelled like pot. Our story hasn't changed. They could have looked on their cameras n seen how many times I went down stairs and did smoke. I dont smoke in my own home so y would I smoke in their room. The worse part of the whole situation is the attitude we were giving from EVERY PERSON WE TALKED TO!!!! They were very rude and hateful while the whole time their stories were changing and ours is the same from the start. If we got charged just because the alarm had a fluke and went off that would be one thing but for the employees to straight up lie about what was seen and then the management have such hateful attitudes with us was ridiculous. And we had 4 people in the room to verify thst we was not smoking. Im a small business owner and if I spoke to my customers half as bad as they did us then I wouldn't be in business. They were very rude to my wife all the while she was speakibg to them calmly and rationallyThis is the worst experience I have ever had at any hotel and we will...
