Arbutus Motel & Cabins — Hotel in Town of Adams

We rented two rooms last Friday and Saturday for an ATV trip with friends. Al was very kind and helpful. The rooms were clean, the grounds were beautiful, and the location was great for access to the trails. But unfortunately, that is not why this review is being posted. Shelly was disrespectful and extremely rude from the very beginning. Despite the posted reviews which provided ample warning about Shelly’s demeanor, lack of hospitality, and disrespect for customers, we booked the rooms. We planned the trip only weeks prior to our arrival and did not have other options. When the phone reservation was made, she demanded we provide her a specific arrival time for our check in. She was told 11am. She responded in a very rude tone we would need to call back if we were going to arrive at any other time. We arrived on Friday at 10:57am and were checked in by Al with no incident. On Friday, around dinner time we stopped back to the motel to simply retrieve something from our room. We parked the 3 UTV machines in the gravel parking area in front of the hotel. I was the only person of the 6 people in the 3 machines that initially stepped out and walked towards the motel. I was immediately greeted by Shelly who was storming across the lawn from the nearby bon fire with a drink in her hand yelling that we could not park there. I explained we would only be a moment; I was just running into my room quickly. We promised to park later where it was designated for UTV’s at the opposite end of the lot. After she so rudely confronted me my boyfriend got out of the UTV and tried to explain to her that the area we were supposed to park UTV’s was not accessible. The UTV’s and trailers already parked were blocking the way for any additional machines (they were parked like Jack Wagons was our specific description 🤔). We returned after dinner to find the trailers and UTV’s were not moved to accommodate parking for our machines. We instead parked our machines for the evening on our trailers. Upon entering our rooms on the same evening, it was noticed that someone had been in one of the rooms. They turned off a small light that was left on intentionally because it would be dark when we returned, and they also turned down the air conditioning setting. This was very creepy to say the least as the owners should have no reason to be in rented rooms on the first night of anyone’s stay. I would highly not recommend staying at this motel. Shelly is a very inconsiderate and rude individual. We had a group of veterans visit from all over Wisconsin and Minnesota for a fishing outing/tournament that were scheduled to stay for a weekend. While booking the visit, Shelly was extremely rude and disrespectful. She had contacted our directed, yelling at him saying we had only confirmed 6 individuals to be staying at the motel and that they didn’t have towels or soap available for the vets. What kind of business/motel does not offer toweling and/or soap to guests?! She contacted our director apologizing for the inconvenience and claimed she understood what the purpose of the organization we had established. This whole issue of being yelled at on the phone was strike number one. After we had finished the tournament, the group had returned to the motel to relax and converse about the day. While visiting, a couple of our members had brought their 3 month old puppy. They were NOT staying at the motel, they were just visiting at the fire and getting a group picture. While the puppy was being brought to the fire, she was attacked by they owners unleashed dog multiple times. Owners and friends were trying to protect the puppy, not know where this dog had come from nor knowing who’s it was. Shelly had came from the darkness yelling at the group saying the puppy was not allowed there and not doing anything about the dog attacking the puppy. The 3 had yelled at the dog grabbing the puppy not knowing they were not allowed to have pets on the property, as it only states in the motel’s guidelines that guests STAYING at the motel were not allowed pets. The 3 left extremely upset. One, being a veteran himself and apart of the group, was not impressed and found Shelly to be very unprofessional and disrespectful. Who doesn’t stop their dog from attacking another dog, nonetheless a puppy?! All in all, if you decide to book with Arbutus Motel, I recommend you read the reviews and do your research in the facility. There are plenty complaints about Shelly and her disrespectfulness, and secret prices that they nail you with. I called to make a reservation, and the lady who had answered was completely disrespectful from the moment she had answered the phone. I was informed before I called that my son, age 2, would not have been charged. So I had informed her that 2 would be staying and she heard my son in the background and stated kids were charged 10 dollars extra a piece. I said okay, well then there will be 3, I probably should have mentioned him, that was my fault, but after giving all my information, she says, "it's probably best if you stay in a Black River Falls motel since you have not been honest about anything." I was confused, so I asked what she meant and she said, well we have asked you several times how many people would be staying and you have not answered an honest answer. I explained how I was told from someone over the phone, my son would not be charged for his age and she said well you were told wrong and you just will have to stay in Black River Falls. I laughed and said okay, and she hung up. After all of that, and how rude she was on the phone, I will never in my life try to stay there again. It looks like a great place, but the staff just seems extremely disrespectful. I'm not one to complain, first review in my life, I'm a server and don't like hearing complaints, then again who does, but I really don't like to complain but this was just...
