Giving a one star because of lack of supplies in the bathroom (toilet paper and soap for two days I was there) and the encounter I heard another guest having with the owner. Cleanliness is extremely important to me. This campground had great reviews on cleanliness that I now find to be misleading. If the hand soap and toilet paper isn’t being replaced, that tells me the entire bathroom isn’t getting cleaned. The second problem: It was 10:25 pm (quiet time is 10 pm) this family had a few sites next to eachother and were sitting talking around one fire. The owner approached extremely aggressively, threatening to kick them out, and belittling them. I have never heard a more unprofessional encounter from a business owner. I understand and appreciate enforcing the quiet hours, but this was extremely excessive. He then returned the next morning, (they were not making any noise at this point or any at all after he yelled at them) and told them they needed to leave and would not be getting refunded their money. I was so glad it was not me in this situation, as it easily could have been, but I couldn’t help but feel so sorry for those people driving hours to come here and wasting their money. I did read the reviews about the owner before coming, and now wish I’d had went with my gut. How he treated those people was absolutely disgusting. If you enjoy talking above a whisper around the fire making s’mores with your family, move along to the next campground! edit in response to the comment back from the owner I understand not wanting to own up to your unprofessional reaction. But to try to call someone a liar… yikes. I do not even know, nor was I associated with these people, and I was never kicked out of anywhere. Unfortunately I stayed my entire trip. Your bathroom was most definitely out of toilet paper and soap for two days. I can’t say I heard every single interaction between you and this family, but I can tell you I heard you coming up using threatening and foul language over anything I heard them doing. You said and I quote “if I hear so much as a above a f*ing whisper, I’m calling the sheriff”. It’s surprising to me that they would be “so intoxicated” because I would’ve guessed you were with your enraged temper. If you are unable to see how insanely unprofessional you were that’s fine. But don’t try to say these things flat out didn’t happen. Because they most certainly did. Your inappropriate reaction to these people effected my stay. My boyfriend and I didn’t leave our tent past 10 pm in fear of being “too loud”. Like stated previously, I understand and appreciate enforcing quiet hours, but you acted ridiculous. Bottom line. And had I read a true review about how you treat your customers, I wouldn’t have came to your campground. For the people reading this, you can chose to believe what you’d like. I won’t be responding to this man anymore. I just wish I’d had an accurate review of this place...

The Apostle Islands Area Campground is the only park in the vicinity that offers full hookup for RV camping. There is an office with a nice camp store that sells merchandise, ice cream, firewood, and more; a playground for the kids; trash and recycling dumpsters in two locations; an RV dump station; mini golf; a swimming pond with a beach; nine cabins which include six themed cabins; one covered wagon rental; concessions near the swimming pond; two clean bathroom/shower facilities with laundry (indoor laundry facility nestled amongst sites 62-95 has two washers at $3 per load that run about 30 minutes and two dryers at $2.50 per load that run about 45 minutes / outdoor laundry facility with no lighting at night near sites 1-27 has one washer at $3 per load that runs about 30 minutes and one dryers at $2.50 per load that runs about 45 minutes.) The owners are very nice. The terrain is hilly throughout the park. Roads are narrow and not marked well for direction. We feel the park is antiquated and tired in the 1-40 camping areas. Our site was uncomfortable during our stay as it was too small for our RV and tow vehicle. And the website allowed reservations for RVs even longer than ours. The tow vehicle had to be parked six inches from the firepit, which we would not have used anyway since pine branches were hanging four feet from it. Brush and limbs are in dire need of trimming in this area of the campground. We feel the park should better assign or evaluate equipment placed on sites that are not well-suited for equipment. For reference, sites 62-101 are better suited for medium to larger RVs (62-95 are pull-thrus and 96-101 are back-ins), sites 1-27 are back-in and are better for small to medium RVs except for one pull-thru which could accommodate a larger RV, sites 42-55 appear to be seasonal as they have a central mail reception area, sites 28-41 (with 41 being a cabin) are better suited for small RVs and tents. This review is based on our experience only and is not meant to deter future campers from this park. Being full time RVers, we have stayed at many campgrounds. This is not one we enjoyed. We see that most of the reviews are good; we are hoping that this review may assist others in choosing perfect sites so they will enjoy their stay more...

Apostle Island Area Campground was perfect for our friend getaway! Highly recommend this campground, we really enjoyed our campsite and our time here. Easily the cutest campground we've ever been to and we enjoyed all the places for cute photo ops. If we ever make it back to the area we'd definitely consider staying in one of the onsite cabins next time!

We had site 34 and it was a split level site, which was perfect for our 10 person tent setup. This site might not be ideal if you have a pop-up camper or want to have a "traditional RV" setup. As you can see we parked our SUV on the lower section and set up our tent on the higher section. You could easily set up 2 smaller tents in this area also. Our spot was fairly shaded, which was nice on a hot day. There was water and electrical available we used the spigot to fill up a 5 gallon water jug, otherwise it's a little awkwardly located for regular use. All the campsites seemed to be nicely spaced and fairly secluded. All campers seemed to be very friendly and respectful. No loud blasting music or rowdy neighbors.

Bathrooms and dumpsters were a quick walk from our campsite. Cleanest camp bathrooms EVER. We all used the showers, which were very clean and the water was nice and warm.

Zach and Jennifer were extremely welcoming and very helpful. The little camp store when you enter has all camp items you might have forgotten and also a few "luxuries" like ice cream by the scoop, frozen pizzas, and coffee if you can't bring yourself to cook. We appreciated that firewood was available on site and it burned...

Apostle Islands Area Campground. Bayfield, WI Site #5 with our 34ft rig We stayed a week here with our 3year old and was definitely worth it! Owners were beyond friendly; You can tell they take pride in their campground and are excited to make their guests feel welcomed always. Campground/facilities were prestine; always clean and main grassy areas well maintained. While the spots were smaller than other campgrounds to park our rig, we felt we had a private area but still having the ability to visit with neighbors if we chose to. The campground is nested in a location where we were able to make daily trips all over the area to explore/hike/restaurants/bakeries enjoy the local finds such as; Madeline Island Big Bay State Park, Houghton Falls Nature Preserve, Amnicon Falls, Lost Creek Falls, Meyer Beach Aposlte Islands National Lakeshore, Hayward and even to Duluth for Superior Zoo, without concern for security of rig being left. Quite time was observed and respected. Free wifi a bonus! Campstore provided many necessities. Needless to say: if you have kids or are exploring alone we highly recommend this campground! ETA: they plan to add a swimming pond/inflatables this upcoming season for those who don't want to jump in/dip your feet in for awhile into Superior waters. Downtown Bayfield near the Yacht club has an AWESOME park for the littles, grab yourself a coffee (we enjoyed Wonderstate Coffee house) and head down there!
