We fell in love with this hotel. We had an oceanfront suite and it was just incredible. The view of the Atlantic from the large deck above the dunes was stunning. There was so much room to spread out and relax under the retractable awning on the patio table and lounge chairs. The night sky was beautiful from the deck at night with the gentle ocean spray from the breeze.
Our room was so comfy and clean. The kitchenette and bathrooms were so clean. I looked all around and didn't find any stray hairs, dust or anything else in the room corners, under the couch, in the closet or in the drawers. All of the kitchenware, plates, cups provided and the kitchen sink and fridge were super clean. We were pleased and surprised to find a separate 1/2 bath in addition to the full bath in our room. The king bed and its pillows were very soft.
There were ACs in the living space and bedrooms as well as ceiling fans plus two sets sliding glass doors and windows everywhere.
The front garden was beyond gorgeous with blooms everywhere up the stairs and along the winding stone paths. It was a dream and clearly a talented gardener's labor of love. The rear courtyard was really fun with charcoal grills, patio tables and lounge chairs. We used the grills several times and noticed some of the same other guests do the same. They were really clean. The sand in the courtyard was perfectly manicured every morning when we walked through to go down to the beach.
Also equally as wonderful was the hospitality. Everyone we encountered who worked there was so welcoming and helpful. Check in and check out was a breeze. They were also so nice about giving recommendations to best see the Montauk July 4th fireworks. They were also really thoughtful and had parking spots marked with room numbers to make parking super simple.
The beach itself beyond the dunes was wonderful. The hotel has beach chairs and umbrellas to loan the guest that we didn't realize and we brought and used our own. There are a few nearby access points that folks not staying at the hotel use. Even on the 4th of July the beach didn't feel crowded.
It was truly a dream. We can't...
Read moreSorry for the 3 star review, but the price/performance here sucks! I stayed over labor day weekend with my brother and his wife that was visiting from the left coast. I can’t recommend this one because they knowingly pray on the folks that can’t find rooms in larger, more traditional hotels. The high prices are to be expected anywhere in this town or area, but it’s still excessive. The drift wood hotel down the road was less expensive with larger, more modern rooms. BUT, if you’re looking to avoid the “busy” and you want somewhat of an escape, then this place might work. The hotel is clearly aimed at the NYC crowds. I think most end up here when there are no other options available. And that statement is NOT meant to be negative. It appears that it was also renovated within the last 10 years or so. It’s nice, but nothing special. The White Sands (nothing white about the sand there). It’s situated nearly level with the beach front which provides a great view of the ocean. It’s located in a small neighborhood of really cute homes that are priced like estates (lots of “for sale” signs). It’s surprisingly quiet on the weekends, which is a big plus. One thing that really bothered me about this place was the staff. They constantly asked if we were staying there just about every single time we traveled through the hotel’s beach entrance. Believe me, I know it seems petty, but it gets incredibly annoying when it’s 95 degrees out, the sun is blinding you and baking you to an extra crispy crust. After the 2nd or 3rd time, you want to shake them and say, “I don’t have time to respond to your stupid questions. I’m on the way to the beach. Please stop asking! I’m baking at 500 degrees and trying to make it to the ocean, so please leave me the...
Read moreThe rooms are plonked right next to the Atlantic Ocean. So close you can hear the waves thundering against the sand from inside the room. ||I booked here because it was the cheapest and nearest to Montauk. Almost everywhere else is double or even treble the White Sands Motel nightly cost.||It’s location is a 12 minute drive from Montauk if you go the quicker way. If you take the Old Montauk Highway which is much slower it all starts to make sense. The old road is a complete Hamptons experience. Sweeping corners and surprising enormous drops in the road that bend and swerve beautifully keep your mind fully focussed on the art of driving. And the beauty of this region. ||You can imagine the Kennedys bombing around here in their little sports cars in the 60s . Which makes the - comparatively - low price for the Motel feel even more value for money. Those actually staying in Montauk itself will hardly get to do this fantastic route. ||The motel has Wi-fi, barbecue pits, sun loungers and a garden at the front that looks like it takes up a lot of time and money. It’s spectacular and I’m not really a garden person. Parking is free and while I was there the other motel people were all really friendly....
