I wish I’d taken pics of my food, but I was so excited to actually eat something on vacation- aside from pizza 🍕!! (Though Mystic Pizza? I’d have eaten that EVERY DAY… but I digress!) Anyhoo, vacations are not usually something that involve me being able to eat very much, as I’m ALLERGIC TO FISH AND SHELLFISH 🦐!! This was something that developed in my early 30’s, so unfortunately for me, I’d known seafood intimately, and we had a wonderful relationship. 😍 Imagine my surprise when I go to a seafood restaurant and blow up like, well, you get it. Anyway, I was excited for my husband to eat at The Lobster Roll, as we’d been fans of The Affair!! (At least the first 4 seasons, but don’t get me started there…) Anyway, we went after Labor Day in late September! The weather couldn’t have been any more beautiful. We had a 45 minute wait that was actually more like 20 minutes. The server was excellent and super sweet. She came over to get our orders, and I told her “I’ll just have a Diet Coke— I can’t eat at seafood restaurants because of possible cross contamination, as I'm allergic.” It’s something I’m used to saying, and I’ll usually try a dessert if I feel safe, or maybe some crackers. Well… you cannot imagine the excitement I felt when the server told me they had a gluten free fryer!!! So that means that I could eat some chicken tenders as well as ACTUAL FRENCH FRIES!! (Most places fry their fish with EVERYTHING… it’s so depressing. Im lookin’ at you, Cheesecake Factory and every Mexican/Chinese restaurant..ever. 😭😭😭😭 I MISS IT SO MUCH!!) so the designated GF fryer could be used for my fries, and I could eat GF chicken tenders! My husband ordered a LR, of course, and he loved his. For the first time since being diagnosed, I was able to comfortably eat something fried, and it’s couldn’t have been better!!! I asked for ranch, and it was def homemade, which makes life SO MUCH BETTER. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I even loved the GF chicken tenders!! I’m obv chatty, but this review is prolly the longest I’ve ever written…sorry for being long-winded, I just can’t say enough good things!! We wanted to get something like “Cherry’s Pies” when we left, but we settled on an Oreo (cookies & cream?) cupcake, which was huge and delicious 🤤. My husband has a beer, so all in all, I think our bill was $60, so $75 after tip.) That’s expensive where we come from, but if we lived near them, we’d be eating there weekly. Thank you so much Lobster Roll… you’ve officially made this girl the happiest I’ve been at a restaurant on vacay (and even home!) in 8ish years. I love you forever. ♥️♥️♥️ If you’re planning on taking a trip, make SURE you go to TLR. They...
Read moreMy experience here as a woman of color with my black husband was disappointing, yet, not surprising since we were the only people of color within this vicinity. It was my first time visiting this restaurant, drove 2 hours from the city and decided to stop here to eat. As soon as we pulled into the parking lot, we were waiting to park since all the spots were taken. While pulled over in a corner waiting (like other cars) for no longer than 2 minutes, one of the male workers decided to aggressively tell me to move my car immediately and that I can't stay here. Mind you, this is before we even ordered food, and he didn't approach any other vehicle in the manner that he did mine. We got a parking spot and proceeded to order. Spending almost $200 for the 2 of us. As soon as I placed the order, I noticed they have outdoor seating so I went to ask if we can sit down to eat instead of having to sit in the car that we just drove in for 2 hours to eat. The lady at the seating area declined without even ATTEMPTING to help, saying the only way we can sit down to eat is if we cancel the order I placed at the takeout counter and re-order the exact same food after sitting down. Not sure why if it's coming from the same kitchen and my credit card was already charged. In the middle of this pandemic, you mean to tell me that you couldn't at least TRY to help? I wasn't going to cancel a $200 order and then reorder it again. There was no one else waiting to be seated. She could have seated us. Finally our food was ready at the takeout counter and the same lady from the seating area came over to say "You saved yourself about an hour by doing this" to which I replied, "I just wanted to sit down and eat with my husband. We drove for 2 hours from New York city to get here and would rather not sit in our cars to eat." And her response was to turn around and walk away. Icing on the already nasty cake. From the moment we pulled into the parking lot of this place we were not met with any hospitality. My fellow black and brown folks, it is clear that we are NOT wanted here. Take your hard earned...
Read moreThis place has outdoor seating available and we were seated immediately. Dined around 7pm and it was fairly busy, about 75% full. A lot of young kids eating here. Had a table of 6 guys next to us, all in their early 20s, talking and yelling very loudly about if they would rather marry Lady Gaga or Ariana Grande. On the other side of our table had 8 young people also very loud and drinking quite a bit. Back two tables were also filled with large groups of loud kids. All fine and well but just to note this was not the best place for a date night, was very loud and difficult to talk and would be a better option for friends or family meeting for dinner.
The food was expensive and not exactly worth it. The clam chowder was good but not great. It did had a lot of clams but several sandy bites. The crab cakes were not good, odd seasonings, and one was burnt on the bottom. The coleslaw was OK but plain, very light vinegar dressing and no carrots. Cold lobster roll was pretty good, lots of lobster but was dry and needed more mayo. French fries were typical frozen crinkle cut. Corn on the cob was overcooked and came with no butter, had to ask for packets. Dessert was very good. Had the frozen key lime and the warm chocolate cake, both were excellent.
Service was not great here. Initially was brought the wrong soup. Took the soup back and brought the correct soup and after 2 bites, here is the entrees. The food got cold as we ate our soup. We asked for a dessert menu and 15 minutes later we got it. Took forever for her to take our order and bring the desserts. Waited 40 minutes from the time we told her we wanted dessert till we finally got it. Getting the check was another hassle. I didn't feel like it was busy enough that we should of had to wait so long for service.
If you're a young person that likes to drink and order chicken fingers, I think this is your place and you'll make lots of new friends. Otherwise, steer clear. There are comparable or better lobster rolls and desserts (the only two redeeming things) at other...
