Beautiful quaint, old-timey feel. It was built in 1880, and has been in continuous operation for all 142 years!
Four floors, and since there's no air conditioning (only a box fan in each room) nor elevator, some prefer the rooms on the lower floors that are cooler during the summer and don't require a climb.
While we were there, some folks were starting power yard work by like 8am, which, with the little sound absorption/dampening/insulation of the hotel, was loud and woke us up to unpleasant grinding (edging) or mowing noises.
Some other people in the town while we were here were boisterous late at night and a boat out on the lake was blasting really loud music keeping lots of folks up. So if that would affect you, be Mindful and maybe request a room that doesn't face the water.
While the place does have power/electric in each room, the receptacles were so old they were only hot/neutral (no ground), so nothing with a ground will go in unless you have a 3 to 2 adapter. Also, the age means the receptacles are very loose, and don't hold things in them very tightly.
The wallpaper in each room and hallway is BEAUTIFUL, and the accent in the ground floor public restroom has a really neat story written all across it.
The staff is super friendly, and walking around anywhere is amazing, seeing the history and quaint, rural western New York feel.
Definitely an awesome place, and PERFECT for a family gathering. We used to come here in the 1990s when we were kids, and now 20 some years later we're all here with the next generation, and the dad who brought us. There was even a family wearing shirts that seemed as if this was their family reunion location for years. It's a really beautiful place and experience to share with...
Read moreI was there with about 30 family members for a wedding. We definately enjoyed rocking on the porch and laughing together but thats where it ends. The rooms were hot and filthy. The water was yellow so we bathed in nearby Lake Erie. We couldn't open our transom as there was a huge BAT flying around! My brothers room smelled like urine...most likely from the cat that roams freely....my nephew is highly allergic to cats. The bartender was kind but the drinks were weak!!!! No coffee, no soap, rude front desk "BB" attendant. The dining area was closed so no free breakfast as still advertised! Price was $175/ night CASH ONLY for this hotel that should be condemned! The smoke alarms had dead batteries, the electric outlets had no covers and sparked when we plugged in the provided box fan. There was an antiquated firehose on the landing of each floor but what do you attach it to? Glad there was a fire escape outside my bathroom window. Needless to say, we left before 0600 for home after spending 2 sleepless nights.|The town is cute, the store owners congenial, the location beautiful. My brother said Hotel Lenhart is as if ISIS took over the Grand Hotel on Mackinac...
Read moreWe had known of the Hotel as a historic place to stay in Bemus for years. We decided to stay for the first time in June 2021. We demanded a refund within 10 minutes of check in. It is unbelievably poor condition. There is historic, then there is dilapidated and dangerous - Hotel Lenhart is absolutely the latter. I have never seen or heard of any facility trying to pass off such terrible condition as “charm.” The room and building was unbearably filthy, the hotel was just a pipe with cold, dirty water - no shower head. The toilet (advertised as a “private bath” - only private because the door to the hallway was barricaded shut) barely flushed, the sink was filthy, no soap provided, only one light worked…I could go on. The bedroom had moldy walls with the wallpaper pealing….it was just shocking. Truly unbelievable how decrepit this place is. ||This location is too great to let be wasted in such a manner. Patrons need to insist the Hotel renovate and improve before continuing to stay here. It can maintain the historic charm without sacrificing guest safety and security. It’s an...
