Outside facade is adequate. The rooms are dark and dingy, dated and the furnishings and fixtures are old and not entirely in good working order. The vanity sink in our room didn't drain properly. The handle in the shower combined with lack of substantial water pressure made it impossible to get the temperature right to take a shower that tje water was either scalding or cold. At times the shower water trickled down and then gushed back. The soap was the size of half the standard business card. Although advertised as non-smoking rooms, I could smell the stench of cigarette smoke the moment I entered the space. Given my alergies, I immedistely went back to the front Desk to inquire, I was told by the woman that if anyone smoked in the room they would not be welcomed back. I insisted that the room was full of smoke and asked if my room could be sprayed but told the cleaning people had gone for the day. I was out all day, left the windows open/air conditioner off in 80+ degree temps in the hope that the room would be freshend up only to return that evening to find that most everyone was smoking out in front of their respective doors (under the covered breeseway) where tables and chairs were stationed for the convenience of guests who sat smoking up a storm which explained why the rooms, rugs, drapes, sheets, blanlets, comforter, walls etc. were full of the disgusting stench of smoke. I actually sprayed perfume around my neck to mask the awful smell so i could fall asleep. When I explained what I observed, the Front Desk attendant as well as the night Desk attendant said they were merely clerks and that I had to speak to the owner. Never did either of these Clerks pass along my concern to the owner and I was left to suffer. My husband joined me 2 days later on Saturday morning and was appalled and disappointed by the strong stench of smoke, so strong that he found it to be unbearable. We left for the day and returned that night only to find that many of the occupants had just been returning from a wedding and they took the after-party out on the breezeway where they were smoking and talking over loud music via some boonbox until 3am. The smoke stench was worse than ever and now with the windows closed, the smoke emter3d our room via the air-conditioner vent. The night clerk never asked any ot these guests to stop playing music so other guests could get some sleep. We were also told that they can't tell guests not to smoke out in the breeseway. If that's their policy then they can't call their guest rooms NON-SMOKING. My husband explained that he couldn't sleep there another night and so we cut our time visiting family over the Labor Day Holiday and checked out a day earlier. I asked the clerk, to refund us the one day given these circumstances and they said I had to talk to the owner.I asked them to have the owner call us given that they had our information upon check-in. Ad to say that it's been a week and no courtesy extended of a phone call from the owner. I suspect the clerk did not pass along our concerns. Hopefully, we will hear from the owner shortly and honor our request for a partial refund given that it was our personal experience that the entire stay was awful and no one lifted a finger to help make our stay or pleasant & ...
Read moreHow anyone would give this place a 5 rating befuddles me. It is old and worn out, the rooms are dark, even with three lamps on. No modern touches. The deadbolt on the entry door could not be engaged. The water flow in the shower defies description.||The outside grass has been destroyed by the geese, and the owners are not cleaning up after them.. Disgusting. Our room was on the second level, the owner told me there is a ramp. That takes you only so far and you the have to go up a steep staircase and then many other smaller steps with your luggage. The property lacks in basic maintenance.||The breakfast is a joke. Ten ounce coffee cups and slices of stale coffee cake are not breakfast. There was no fruit or a basket of bagels as pictured on the web site.||I hate to think this, but some of the recent reviews are so inaccurate that it makes you wonder who wrote them.||I really hate to “light up” anyone on a review but people need to speak the truth, other travelers rly on this information. I would be more than happy to discuss this with the owners since I didn’t have the chance upon checkout. Donna, I think her name, was taking a one call after another, didn’t even ask me how my stay was. Probably didn’t want to hear the answer.||The only good thing I can think of is that same lady came out of nowhere to help us bring our luggage down the steps when we exited.||I read at least two reviews where the word Gem was used. Really?||If any chain hotel opens up in this area, these people are out of business, and I think...
Read moreReally this hotel (more motel) had very comfortable beds and helpful courteous staff so, for the average traveler this place is fine and has a nice coffee and crumpets breakfast. It is not for those who are handicapped, use a walker or have difficulty getting into bed, however. The beds, though very comfortable, are unusually high off the ground, so that my 93-year-old mom had to use the wooden bed frame to push herself onto the bed. Also the door frame into the bathroom was too narrow for her walker (a rollator) to fit through. So I had to fold it up to put it inside for her to use it. The toilet seat is much lower than usual also, making it difficult for her to sit down and get up from the commode. We struggled through because we were only there for one night and managed to make it work but I felt it was important to let others know our experience so they can be forewarned. Again- nice staff who tried to help as much as they could- even making sure to put us in a room near the outside ramp. I’d stay there again if it were just me and a friend, but not with my handicapped mother. Thanks to staff who did their best, given the limitations of...
